| Its also often advantageous to go with the 20 Negative Damage over Flesh to Stone against enemies with very high saves. At least you can count on doing 10 damage.
Of course, there are times when the potential reward is worth the risk...petrifying an undamaged Large Red Dragon, even with his +13 save. Sure, you only have a 15% chance of doing it, but that 10 damage probably wouldn't be much of a factor anyway.
So...re-reading my post, I realize I've said pretty much nothing. Anyway...yes you can pick a lower effect, and sometimes its good to do so. There. | | Rhane "The focus is sharp in the city..." Have/Want List Reference thread Avatar Thread

| | When using the Beholder I only use telekinisis, inflict wounds and disintigrate, as most of the other effects are too risky, although this may change with the Dark Naga | | Call me: W.N. Gobo! originally posted by grim: While he is clearly insane, he does have a point. | |

Yeah same here. I mainly use all the non-damaging effects (tele, FtS, Slow, and Fear) against creatures with evade dmg just so they dont benefit much. | | Champion of Bruenor Battlehammer | |

| I like the slow especilly against creatures with 2 attack or a slow speed.
I once slowed an epic Marut and he was filling space on the grid after that. He might as wel have been taken off the board. He just couldn't do anything. | | Disipline is the only way to overcome chaos.
