Actually, you should have no need to use the Couatl's Warband Building in an Elminster band, since the band is CG and the Couatl's Warband Building effect is 'CG Outsiders are legal in your band'.
CG Outsiders are always legal in a CG band, Couatl or no.

| I assume that he was referring to the other part of the Couatl's CE, involving elemental resistances.

| good assumption hardinjmm.
I was effectively thinking about the energy resistance. I always forget that warband building is a commander effect. As to resume the issue, if I bring a Couatl, followers under command by him will get the energy resistance. Since the Warband building commander effect is irrelevant, we don't take it into account.
