Its been a few months since I've been in the minis scene but now that I have some free time, I began collecting Angelfire and Underdark boosters. My FLGS has a minis night every tuesday and the owner tells me everyone is playing 500 point bands. So, using mostly the new minis that I just pulled out of boosters, I put together a band that I hope will kick some booty. But since I've never played with this band yet, I though I'd put it up here for suggestions, so here goes:

Human Blackguard 46
Artemis Entreri (epic) 215
Xorn x2 48
Chain Devil 45
Chraal x2 70
Duergar Champion x2 66
Duergar Warrior 4
Kolbold Miner x2 6

500 points exactly.

I wanted to make a warband that was strong and that could make the most out of Artemis's amazing skills. I chose a Human Blackguard for a commander because he is the beefyist commander I have for LE... and I'll need a beefy commander if I want to keep those Chraals on the board for as long as possible. And his CE of 6 and Tyranical Morale will insure that my heavy hitters will pass their morale saves.

The Xorns will use their burrowing ability to move under terrain, walls and enemies so that they can flank targets so that Artemis can use his sneak attacks and backstab as often as possible. The Kolbold Miners seem like cool new fodder. If I'm lucky they might start off from an area that will make it easy to put them into a flanking position for Artemis as well.

The Chraals and Duergar Chanpions are the beaters. They can either assist Artemis or take on enemies on their own. The Chain Devil will hang back and put some extra hurt on anything that Artemis, the Chraals, or the Champions, are hurting to make that moral save or kill using his nice melee reach 4.

The Duergar Warrior is there because I had exactly 4 points left after putting the rest of the band together. He's good though, if conceal 6 works just once, then he's paid for his points IMO.

So there you have it. What do you all think? Is there anything that should be changed or switched out? I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Xorns I think are a great call as flankers. But they won't be hitting much with their +8 atk bonus in Epic. Same goes for Chraals. They aren't beaters in Epic. They are meatshields and fodder clearers with their BW. Aside from Artemis, I don't think anyone else in your band can be counted on to deliver reliable offense over the course of the entire game.

Here is my Epic Artemis warband I am hoping to try out:

Artemis 215
Thaskorx2 132
Human Blackguard 46
Raksasha 41
Snig 20
Kobold Minersx2 6
Gobo Skirmsx3 0

500 pts, 12 activations

HBG: As you stated, a durable commander. Also gives me good init rolls and morale checks.

Thaskors: These guys are beefy running mates for Artemis. They can move 16 and shoot their stun cones. Any Huges or other meaty pieces that fail their saves are then set up beautifully for Artemis' backstab and sneak attack. With 2 Thaskors, I can have a reasonable shot at stunning some juicy pieces. And they also double as great beaters, with high HP, AC, atk bonuses, and good damage. With the prevalence of skyhigh ACs in Epic, their atk bonuses much needed.

Rakshasa: He is there as a backup commander and tech. His slide can help alleviate some of the concerns of maneuvering 2 large bases, and can also set up flanks. His slapping hands extend the offensive capability of the Thaskors and Artemis. Being able to steal some commander effects are also nice.

Snig+Minions: All about the activations.

Kobold Miners: Tile points.

Another variant I am considering is tossing out the HBG+Rakshasa+Snig+Kobolds for:

Trog Capt (for stench and to hit bonuses)
Xorn (for flanking)
Kobold Sorc (for magic weapon on Thaskors)
Trogsx2 (for stench)

But I have a feeling my first band is better. Would appreciate opinions.

OP: might want to see if your LGS is doing 8 figure limit (that's been the standard for 500 points for several months already).

Other than Artemis, most of the guys in your warband will have trouble hitting anything in 500 points, so he will probably concentrate his entire force on Artemis, and I don't think he's sturdy enough for that. Maybe try to stick in some more autodamage or some more pieces with high attack bonus?

It is for sanctioned play. But if you and your friends play an unsanctioned 500 pt game and want to agree to an informal limit that goes above or beyond 8, no one is stopping you. [)]
