| Is this thread still around? is it worth keeping?
I am re-working my attempt at a guide for new players (not strategy, but things like indicating what you've activated) when I started typing an acronym. As a writer, I try to avoid those, unless the audience has the correct context. So, my brain wandered to the acronym list. | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

| Actually most of them are Initialets not Acronyms. See Acronyms are pronounceable. Stuff like F.B.I. W.W.J.D BPM are not actually acronyms. I hope this helps ;)
For the love of god I wish people would not use CE for "commander effects" I always get that confused for Chaotic Evil.
I enjoyed playing my UTVDCDCCHCHSGSGSGSGSGS band but I think ill replace it with UTVCDCDCCHCHSGSGSGSBB now rather then waiting for the 8 fig limit. | | www.LocalGaming.biz Visit our store only $2 shipping! www.LocalGaming.net Join our forum!

| We are definitely acronym-heavy here...probably too much so.
I think most people know (or can easily find out) what things like GCR, FB, IM, CoDA, AoO and MC are. Abbreviations for creatures or game concepts that are used alot and are reasonably recognizable.
However, using an acronym for every creature in a warband without ever specifying what they stand for can cause problems. A while back, I saw someone identifying a creature as AR. It took me a while to figure out he meant Azer Raider. How much tougher would it have been to type "Azer"?
Anyway, I don't know if I said anything useful here or not... | | Rhane "The focus is sharp in the city..." Have/Want List Reference thread Avatar Thread

Might I suggest the alternative ComFX? Or even CFX? Personally, I like ComFX better, but that's just me.
That way CE is always Chaotic Evil, and you never get confused.
As for shortening the names of creatures, I recommend typing it out fully once. After that, if there are no other creatures that could be easily confused with it, then refer to it by the initials.
Sizes may be abbreviated by T, Sm, Lg, or H as appropriate. That allows us to tell the difference between the LEE (Loyal Earth Elemental) and the LgEE (Large Earth Elemental). | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

An acronym doesn't have to be pronounceable, and you're probably thinking "initialism". The distinction you're talking about is not (yet) generally accepted. | | "Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish." - Albert Einstein Champion of Myopic Half-Orcs Winner, WBC X

Actually I was suprised, if your using Webster as your reference their entry does not portray my factoid. | | www.LocalGaming.biz Visit our store only $2 shipping! www.LocalGaming.net Join our forum!
