| I'm sure this may have been covered in some long lost topic that has withered away into oblivion.
My question is this. For skirmish and tournament purposes how many of you take notes? I noticed this at the last tourney (my first) I was at. Just wondering.

| I know you saw me doing that, Krush. [:)]
I do it so I can keep track of scores, what abilities/spells I have used, and in case I want to write a tournament report later. It's something I only started a few months ago. But I find it has helped me to keep better track of my score (and therefore help me figure out what I need to do - i.e. kill which particular unit or protect which of mine - in order to win). | | Champion of Neogi

[:0] Moi? Never....Seriously though how many out in the community actually do this? I am considering doing this (cough cough) for both league play and future tourneys. [:P] | | Gehenna

| | It's something that I would love to do, but I find it breaks my concentration and I fear that all of my games with detailed descriptions would be losses and the game that I won would have nothing written down because I would be focused on the game. | | Jason Slingerland

| I do take notes. I write down what units my opponent is using (and tiles if using them) in case I write a tourney report. Then during the match I just have a running total of my score and my opponents. When a creature is killed, I write the value (and maybe an abbr. to remember what it was) I wrote 10t for tile points gained, then I do a total so far when the round is over to see if I am currently winning or not. That way I can adjust my tactics if needed. (ahead in points by a large amount, had two minuite warning? time to back off and run the clock. Behind in points at the warning? What do I need to kill to get ahead?)
If there was a particuliar cool or amazing occurance I will write a something to remind me (example: MF Rend AoK, meaning Mind flayer killed Aspect of Kord with his Rend.)
One other time I have started doing as well, in the inside corners of my score tracking, for the round I will put a * for who won the init roll and a box to indicated who went first to indicate if the person who won went first, or passed it off. That way I can later figure out who won more init. etc. It was useful in reporting on a game where I was playing a cmdr 2 against a cmdr 5, so I should have lost the init. about 70% of the time, but except for the placement and final round, I won every initiate check, even after I lost my cmdr. That was comment worth!

| Depends, I find it gives me incredible focus to write down two collumns of scores for both my opposition and I as play progresses. I can see up to date scores when I need to check and see where I'm ahead or behind. Next to the score I'll jot a note like 'Tile Rd. 1' so I know those were first round tile points, and can have an idea of where and when I capitalized...or failed to do so.
Afterwards, I'll jot down the opposing warband's core to further think about later.

| The only thing I keep track of on the side is the score - both a running total, and each score change.
I also keep track of my creatures' changing statistics on the cards themselves - with dry erase. | | Rhane "The focus is sharp in the city..." Have/Want List Reference thread Avatar Thread

| | I like doing that for tournament reports, too. I really don't take too detailed notes, though. Mostly I just write down my opponent's name, the round number, and the opposing warband. Then I keep score in the corner of the page. After the match, if something particularly cool happened, I'll write it down so I don't forget. Otherwise, I just concentrate on trying to win the match. | | Successful Trades (31) | Trades Pending (0) 12th Place in the 2005 Nationals, and I owe it all to the Minis Training Montage. | | It is a great idea to take notes in a book especially during tournaments cause you will be able to see flaws in your warbands and improve them plus you may see something in a competitors warband that you may like to modify. Other bonuses are helping you keep track of what your opponent is doing so you dont lose on an honest mistake. This espescially comes in handy if you have a lot of creatures, hitpoints, abilities, and / or spells because lets face it you will forget things and so will your opponent. It is also handy to write down extra abillities that you may not be familliar with/forget cause you dont run that model an example is I have seen countless people forget when a creature they control has conceal or not or an imunity/resistance. I know alot of people that keep notes of games they played and armies they thought of cause down the line you forget about those little armies you run then the perfect piece for that army comes along and you dont run it so keep notes right down army ideas. It helps alot and your game will improve. | | Determination equals Power | |

| In the re-write of my intro to DDM (non-playing suggestions) I talk briefly about light note taking. I suggest new players write down their opponent's band, and any special abilities they may want to keep track of (so they don't forget that when they kill a chrall, they'll take deathburst damage, e.g.). I also suggest keeping track of points every round so that you can know how much you need to risk and/or protect in the last round or two. I've lost and won matches because my opponent or I lost track of the score and risked a mini we didn't need to in the last round.
I find detailed note taking takes away from my ability to concentrate on the game, and more importantly, on my ability to enjoy the match for what it is, a game. | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

| | I'll occassionally got notes down. Someimes i need notepad to keep track of hit points...for when i grab the sharpie rather than a dry erase marker and mark off abilities on card protectors then go to clean them for round 2 and realize what i just did. | | Play and have fun, this hobby is an escape from the harsh realities of life | |

You did what? On the card itself not on a sleeve protector? Dude. | | www.LocalGaming.biz Visit our store only $2 shipping! www.LocalGaming.net Join our forum!

Just a helpful hint. To clean off a sleeve that has been marked with a Sharpy go over it with a dry earse and it will come off. [)]

| | I take notes after the game ends - while the info is hot... I start the game with who the opp. is and who won inits and setup first and what warband? During the game though - it's all game and score is side note. | | Winter Fantasy, Wardrums Pre-release Champion

| I haven't taken notes (I keep track of hp, uses etc on a card sleeve using a whiteboard marker)
I am planning on doing so in the future. Mostly cause I'm trying to train a computer program to get it's opinion on various pieces.

| | I think the scorecard is a must in tourneys. At the UD prerelease I had 3 out of 5 matches decided by single digit differences when time was called. I usually try to get my opponent to keep score with me so there's never any confusion in the close games. | | body like a jellyfish, mind like a scientist | |

| I am a computer nerd and had some free time at work one day.
I created a quick excel file that I use to track points and what else occurred in a round. I will now share it with yall.

You will notice that the bottom of the sheet includes all the immunities by creature type. Its awfully helpful.
Ive got every game Ive ever played tracked on one of these sheets and can see what Ive won, lost, when and sometimes its enough of a memory queue to remind myself why I lost the game. | | Minis... Serious Business Completed Trades (18 ) | Pending Trades (0) Ebay seller to Avoid –Fantasy_Quest_Dist
