Just curious but I thought one of the reasons for the switch from 12 to 8 mini warbands was for more rounds to be played.

Back when I was playing with 12 minis and tiles it would average around 5 rounds per hour. But I hear that even with the advent of maps and 8 minis you still get about 5 rounds per hour. Is this true?

For those who have switched from 12 to 8 mini warbands, who also now play on maps...how many rounds on average do you get to play in an hour.

I rarely got to 5 rounds in the old days. Time was usually called early in the 4th round.

With maps, most of the games I've played have been on vassal, so they are a little slower. I'd say that most of them would reach a conclusion before time was called in a regular tabletop game. Based on what I've seen, you can easily get in 7+ rounds.

There is so much variety it's hard to say. Last night, I played a fast LG band against a fast CG band. We played two games, each game lasted about 30 minutes before one side one. The first game went 7 rounds, the second went 6.

When both players are playing high-speed, melee bands, I've noticed that the games are often over long before the hour is up, and often in that short time, 7 or more rounds are getting played.

When someone brings a band with lots of line of sight lines to check, the game slows appreciably, but still players are getting 5 or 6 rounds in, usually.

I have seen a few games crawl down to 3 rounds still, but not many.

I agree. I got in at least 6 rounds (unless the game was already over) in all games I've played on maps and with 8 or less figs per side.

So would you say 6 rounds in an hour timed match using maps with 8 figs? Would that be the average?

Played in my first tourney ever recently. 12 figs, maps and standard.
None of my games went for more than 40 minutes.

Although some of the games, especially with Beholders involved, seem to be going to time each game.

Tough to say. I can't think of a map match that didn't go 4 rounds, let alone 5. I haven't been watching, but I'd go with 6-8 typically. I imagine you take the clock away and see how many rounds a match lasts, and you'd probably land near 6-8.

Most/all of my matches have finished before time was called, which is probably a bigger factor to me. The only one I can think of that did go to time was one that I won 190+ to 164. With him with one figure on the board and me with three chasing it, it wasn't like the game wasn't ending soon anyway.

I've also usually gotten 4-5 rounds in on tiles. In all the games I've played on maps I've only had one get called on time. This was at a sealed tournament where neither side had great damage. The rest were over before time was called. In fact, im not sure i've ever had any others even come close to the time limit.

Looking to buy some figures? Chances are I may have them!! Check here!!

In the tournaments i've been at, I'd say only about 20% of the games reach time limit ( 8 fig/maps ). when we used tiles more games seemed to reach time. With maps once you've played on em a few times you have a good feel for where you have LoS .

I played in my first maps and 8 figure tournament this past weekend. We had 6 players and we played 8 games (3 first round, 3 second round and then 2 the last round as someone dropped). I was surprised that all the games were completed without time being called. If this is how maps and 8 figures is going to work, then I'm lovin' it. I don't recall how many rounds but I would guess 6-8.
