| | I know they are immune to criticals and all but if an Iron Golem got hit with a critical from the Balor, would the golem be affected by the Vorpal ability? | | " Hey sexy mama, wanna kill all humans?" "You're granny can go to hell" | |

| | No. The Vorpal ability states that on a critical hit the creature is eliminated. So immune to critical should prevent Vorpal to kick in. Thats how I read it at any rate. | | Asystole is a stable heart rhythm | |

| | Guy ruled that way on the WotC boards. The affected figure has to be subject to critical hits to be vorpalized. So if it is immune to criticals, it can't be vorpaled. I believe that makes Undead, Constructs, and Elementals immune. | | Champion of Neogi

| I agree.
Critical Hits
Q. If an ability or effect (such as the Tiefling Captain's Commander Effect) grants critical hits on a roll of natural 19 or 20, does this mean a natural 19 is also an automatic hit?
A. Yes. Any critical hit is also an automatic hit, even if the target has Immune Critical Hits.
But becuase it can not be criticaled then the effect does not set off because it only works On a crit hit. so this effect also does not work on undead and the alike. | | Poor student looking for minis =D

So to clarify, if I have a teifling within six of an orc Warrior and he rolls a 19 against a nigthtwalker he does not get the auto hit since the walker is immune to crits. Correct? | | Jason Slingerland

In your example it's still a hit, just for normal damage.

| As Guy would say read the glossary definition of Critical Hits. It states:
quote: critical hit: A natural 20 on an attack roll is an automatic hit that deals double damage. Some creatures are immune to critical hits, but a natural 20 still hits them automatically. If a creature can somehow score a critical hit on a roll of less than 20, that critical hit also counts as an automatic hit. See Attack Rolls on page 12.
In other words critical hits still hit creatures that are immune to them but any extra damage or other effect from them is negated.

| | As stated by others the crit roll auto hits but then you must see if creature is critable and then roll to confirm if it is...otherwise you roll normal damage. If its immune then its immune to special effects of a crit i.e. vorpal/viscious | | Play and have fun, this hobby is an escape from the harsh realities of life | |

Your thinking RPG. In DDM think of it this way a natural 20 on an attack roll is 2 things 1)an automatic hit and 2)a critical hit. so even if your immune to criticals you are still hit albiet for normal damage. | | Asystole is a stable heart rhythm

Yep.
He does not get the auto hit because the nightwalker is immune to crits, but because he has conseal. If you roll and beat the conseal then you "auto" hit, but do not do the extra damage. | | First peon to make it to "Knight Warlord" Completed Trades -148-
