| I know that beastmaster is an old ability and is not in the news of the game! but i like the beastmaster concept and lots of animal followers so i want to make a ultimate Party with wild creatures and Bm.
This is the recent warband i´ve tried for Beast master
- Orc Wolf Shaman (Beastmaster 8) - Dire Bear X2 (the main creature) - Monitor Lizard (A filler) - Dire Bat (Nice Flanker) - Fiendish Scorpion (Decent attack ratio) - Winter wolf (i like it, but the breath could be handy) - Bullythug (4 pts filler)
The Party worked very nice for the very first time i tried it worked well and give me win, i was against CG that throw me everything till i get close.
I´m intending to get the greenfang druid, but i want to know which are the best beastmaster (i have a ravenous vampire but is not that useful) and creatures that are wild (because they are good) that you could control to get nice combos. I guess the Natural Soul Ability would make a boost to this strategy, more with the new cougar-cheetah that is coming in War drums! | | Knight of the Quori Champion of King Kaius III of Karrnath

| | If you enjoy the beastmaster/animal follower theme, then the Greenfang Druid will be your new favourite piece. Nothing pumps up the animals and magical beasts like this guy. Plus, you can bring in cool pieces like the Owlbear. Also, the GFD on his own, is much better than the Druid of Obad-Hai, Orc Druid, Orc Wolf Shaman, or Ravenous Vampire. He's a well balanced mix of offensive spell power, buff spells, commander ability, and straight-up melee fighting. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| Get the Greenfang Druid. As Thenameless said he will be your favorite piece if you enjoy the beastmaster/animal theme. I have run several theme bands around him.
For 3 more points you get so much more. You get C4 vs. C3, criticals on 19-20, +1 attack and ignore DR, Warband Building, Beastmaster 20, greater vigor for the Dire Bears, and autodamage.
As far as stats you get LVL 10 vs. LVL 7, AC 21 vs. AC 12, 2 melee attacks with magic damage and the first attack is at +10 vs. +7, plus pounce.

| I like Beastmaster in limited quanities, using it as part of the band instead of its enteriety.
Something like this: Orc Wolf Shaman Red Samurai x2 Drow Arcane Guard Winter Wolf Dire Bat Taer Hyena | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

hyena is nice for 4 pts. Good speed, does its job. Dire lion is pretty worthless.
The key to abilities like beastmaster is don't get so enthralled with them that you think your whole band has to revolve around it. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

| Today i needed a hyena to fill my warband i like that orc wolf shaman a lot!
The dire lion is really useless but nice sculpt to me.
Thanks for the advice, i guess i take this dynamic for a while if you could help me a little more based on your experience | | Knight of the Quori Champion of King Kaius III of Karrnath

| Take if from someone that has used him a bit that the Orc Wolf Shaman is only marginally useful. The Greenfang makes him look pathetic in the druid world. He's best when paired with another commander or just a few animals to make work of the opponent's creatures. I'd shoot for a single Dire Bear and a couple Winter Wolves then fill out the rest of the warband with some other solid hitters like the Red Samurai's suggested. Grimlock Barbarians aren't bad either especially paired with the Winter Wolves to give them their needed attack bonuses. Use some Troglydytes to lower saves and slap out some damage.

| | GFD is a good one. Vadania also has beastmaster (2 i think) if i recall correctly. Adding a crow shaman could be fun as well after all the GFD needs help feeding all those animals | | Play and have fun, this hobby is an escape from the harsh realities of life | |

| For the most part, I agree that you can't get too carried away with Beastmaster and build your whole band around it. The exception, in my opinion, is the Greenfang Druid. His commander effect and legion's magic fang are just too good to not get as much bang for your buck as possible.
I've experiemented a lot with druid bands, and the strongest one I've found is GFD, Dire Bear x2, Celestial Pegasus, Graycloak x2.
You need to be careful with two Large-based land-bound hitters, but the Bears are so fast and so durable that they can work on most maps. (I haven't tried them on Drow Enclave, but I don't think it would work well. It might be okay ... you might be able to cross the bridge fast enough to avoid a bottleneck, and/or create a beachhead with the Pegasus. Hmmm. Gonna have to try this at a League Night.)
I haven't tried to incorporate any of the Natural Soul creatures from UD yet, but I don't think, for example, giving up a Graycloak for two Monitors and a Xeph Warrior would be worthwhile for the plus-one to activations. The Winter Wolf would be a serious option if the breath weapon were 20 instead of 15. | | Jeff "Wayne Laredo" Wilder | Email | Have/Want List | Trade Policies | Are You an Ethical Trader?

| Yes, at first i loved winter wolf but in game is not that useful as i though, the frost cone is nice but not to be a main action, but for Hp he is good.
I like the ideas you gave me, i would manage to get the GFD, but how about other beastmaster comanders?
For now with beastmaster the better opcions are: - Dire Bear - Monitor lizard (nice filler) - Owlbear (Really hard to find) | | Knight of the Quori Champion of King Kaius III of Karrnath

| Yes GFD is the only option for an all aminal band. Here's what i run in 200pt
1x Greenfang Druid 1x Dire bear 1x Griffon 1x Celestial Pegesus 1x Fiendish Giant Prayingmantis 1x Dire Bat
199 points
Since you have 4 fliers here you can block with the bear and fly over and kill the back line or flank thier beaters. You could also replace the bat with some fodder if you need
In 500 point i have had alot of luck with
2x Feindish giant T-Res 1x Greenfang Druid 1x Behir 1x Bullete 1x Griffon 1x Dire Bear
It's so much meat for the enemy to tear through that this band has alot of lasting power. I beat a dual Huge red band with this build. Just be sure to keep your GFD protected. Positioning is key

| | The band I posted I think works well since it doesnt rely on the Orc Wolf Shaman, its got four cones (two red sam, one Winterwolf, one DAG) to dish out damage before closure. Its something im gonna test this week, while I worship the GFD, I have yet to find a band with him that I love (outside of 100 and 500, but it will come), I think the Orc Wolf Shaman is something that deserves a second or third look even | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat. | |

| I only saw one on ebay and the auction was still several days from over, but there is also a chainmail unpainted metal owlbear that has an equivalency card. It might be cheaper than the harbinger owlbear.
