| I think the dark naga is the best commander for the beholder. In addition to this, you can include gauth and destrachans (aberrations too) for truly high DC.If you play well, its very easy to avoid your own antimagic aura to cast lightning bolts or bigby,s with the naga.Yes,I think the Lord Soth Combination its so powerful too.I often plays both versions,but.....wich of them do you think is better?

| Well.. What about this warband? I think gauth is essential to beholder's band for it has selective targeting and that makes beholder's sight more clear.[:D]
Dark naga Beholder Gauth Barbarian Mercenary x3 Azer raider x2
200pts, 9 act.(2 for beholder)
Dark naga emphasizes both beholder's strength and weakness. To deal with antibeholder unit likes ZWD, you need some hitters or something. I think gauth and those mercenary will work for some antibeholder unit. At least, for warrior skelleton and little screener kids.
Anyway, thanks to naga, gauth's paralyse DC is now 16. So you can use mercenaries for blizt! ΖD]
What about ZWD or something? Well.. I hope your strategic skills guide your victory! [V] | | Yellow Turban Rebel(üÜËîÓ×)'s way

If you'r playing a Beholder + Grim Ncromancer, surely you have to summon a Cursed Spirit (save-2) ???
The best "Budy" for a beholder is either an undead with a lot of hit points (Lord Soth) Or another Beholder, the favourite tactic of 2 beholders being to TK. each other (a) across the map to attack faster. (b) Away from adjascent enemy units to avoid melee attacks without trigering an AoO. The later is very effective once the enemy unuts have been slowed. Pick a map with either spiked stones or chasms to TK the enemy into. | | Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything.

Very good point with the Cursed Spirit. I would now substitute the minotuar skeleton for the cursed spirit.
I believe dual beholders in 500 has a home with Lord Soth and Dark Naga.
I was throwing out bands that I had on file. I haven't played the above band in a while. | | Trade Topic & Reviews of Dwarven Forge & Finished Trades& Champion of Fzoul ChembrylD&D Miniatures Played to the Max

| | The problem with Dark Naga is the low CR of 3. It also depends on what other support units are available. Personally speaking, Lord Soth is good. But with a beholder, you are talking about 181 points already. Points are tight in a 200 pt environment. Using the Beholder's Inflict Wound to heal Lord Soth is kind of a waste of the Beholder's true capability. An alternative is Human Blackguard. The situation will be different in 500 pt game, of course. | | | |
