I have to say that I was impressed the first time I saw the wardrums maps. The quality of the pictures and the desing is pretty good.Even compared with drow outpost they are very well. But I dislike to play with them: -Theyre huge in my opinion. The matchs can be so loooong. The others were smaller and faster.
-Theyre very hard to understand.Sometimes me and my rival didnt know where we,re going. And in the battle field its hard to see what is a wall,a cannon ball, the corners,etc,etc....
-The victory areas are small and only one for each warband and another for both of them.I would like two at least. And I dislikes the splitted beginning area idea too.Unnecessary and harder.
-The teleporting map is a complete disaster in my opinion and makes the game confused and longer and harder....Thats the worse!

Well,I supose that im the only one who think so,but im not alone...the few rivals I have challenged last weekend think the same.

I think that, over time, you'll find that you really like some maps and want to play on those the most. Within your community of players, that will be good--you'll all have some maps you agree to play on.

For people who want to compete in tournaments, there are many maps to master and this will be hard.

The advantage of maps is each particular map is the same every time you play on it. So while the first couple of games might be filled with a surprise or two once you've had a chance to study that map everything should go a lot smother for you on it.

Experience in our local area has been that the maps have greatly speeded up the games in most cases.

The teleported once you figure it out actually shortens games. There's no where to hide in it, every mini is almost always one teleport away from being attacked so a lot of our fights on it have been short and brutal.

Go maps. [:)]

Fields of Ruin is a bit tricky, but the other maps are quite clear on what constitutes corners, etc.

True of Fields of Ruin; not true of the Broken Demongate, Teleport Temple, or Dragon Shrine (Dragon shrine actually has 2 victory areas each plus a shared victory area).

There are multiple starting areas on the broken demongate and field of ruin, but the other maps stick to the traditional single start areas (note that the Hellspike map and Fane of Lolth also feature split start areas so it's not quite a new thing).

I would suggest taking your Field of Ruin map and a thin black sharpie and carefully trace the lines of the walls. Be very careful.. cause you wont be able to correct any mistakes and its gonna be hard to determine where they were after you have traced over them.

Would that make the map illegal for tournament play? Just wondering, since if you were to try to take a Broken Demongate (the truly broken one) that you had written on to correct, it's not legal. Wondering if drawing on them in any way invalidates them.

So what if you laminate a map and draw on that? Technically you haven't drawn on the map.

Well I know that they had said if you marked on the Broken Demongate map to "correct it" that it wouldnt be legal because they would have to check each one that was corrected and make sure it was right. And that this would take up too much time.

To me, drawing on the Field of Ruin is the same thing. Even if you drew in exactly where you were supposed to, how does everyone know that? A judge would have to come over and make sure you didnt add anything, forget anything, etc. To me it'd be the same thing and it wouldnt be legal.

But then again I'm not a judge.

Personally I like the maps a lot. All my games this Saturday were able to be finished and not once during the night was time called for a game to end. The tournament went much faster.

Also I waited to get my broken demongate map lamenated since I knew I would be getting a new one. But the new demongate map doesn't have the other map on the back, so I have to get both lamenated anyway, which was really disappointing.

for an official tourney, yes - you have to use the unmarked map. However, at a local tourney that everyone knows each other and can trust your fellow players, go for it. if it comes into question - look quick.

Honestly, in a month or two most of us will know the map backwards and forwards and this wont be an issue.

I was looking at the Field Of Ruin this morning. It's definately not the map you want to play Huges on. So if you're playing epic without a Huge it'd be a great map to slow any Huge creatures down quite a bit.

I'm missing tiles. I'm not all that great at strategizing during the game and my luck with the dice is terrible. Before maps I won almost every game I played based on fairly good warband selection and good tile placement and okay at beast playing.

My warbands are still strong but I'm having a hard time getting these maps to work for me. Before this month's session I'd average 4 wins out of five battles. This month/the first month with maps I went 0 for five...not encouraging.

If you don't adapt your warbands to the maps, I can garantee that you will lose a lot of matches.

Indeed, using maps for tactical advantage is essential in my opinion. After WD's release, I've won all the games played on maps so far, and every time I was lucky enough to get both the map I wanted, and the starting area too. That cant be all because of my warband and/or skills.

When building a warband I always make sure I have a map strategy as well.

I think the Teleporter Map just looks daunting at first. A lot of ppl see it and think, man this is going to be hard. But its just as easy to get the hang of as any map. You just need practice on it. It just seems so weird because its not the same thing everyone is used to. I predict in a few months everyone will know it like the back of their hand and have no trouble manuevering or playing on it. Everyone will have a grasp of it and find games pretty quick.

Its the new players that will come in, see it, and just be overwhelmed by it at first trying to figure everything out.

I, too, miss tiles. And I wasn't even good at them but they brought a definite variety to the game that is now lacking. I choose a map and if I win map init, I play again and again or I choose yours and what are we at right now? 11 choices? Tiles gave variety to each match.

We used to complain that a match could be lost based on tile placements and I am seeing that maps have the same effect. I hope I change my mind when we get up to around 20 map choices otherwise I think maps maybe what pushes me to be a RPGer instead.
