| With a choice of Any faction, it seems to me that Gulgar should be a good fit somewhere. Which faction needs a large monster with great AC high hit points plus DR, Reach and powerfull charge plus two good attacks at 15 and a pair of ranged attacks as well?
I just think he must be a good value if put in the right group. not CE since there are plenty of better beaters. maybe CG? | | | |

| | I'd say LG, since they lack a decent beater around the 50p area. Not to mention its the faction that benefits the most from the ranged damage, potentially forcing the enemy to come closer. | | Champion of the Sarrukh | |

| | I also want to try him out somewhere. I think LG would be a great fit for him. With LE, you'd probably want to use a Helmed Horror more often. In CE, you already have plenty of beaters. LG and CG are probably the better choices, depending on what you want to do. With some more sonic being seen, you might see this guy used more. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka | |

| I don't know. In that arena, it's competing with the Justicator, Slayer of Domiel, and the Purple Dragon Knight (ignoring his commander rating for the moment, he's not too far off the Gulgar). For the most part, I'd rather have the extra speed and attack bonus (and magic damage) of the justicator or the marked target and evade damage of the slayer than what the gulgar brings to the table.
In CG at least, it's a decent blocker for a Nentyar band; its high level makes it almost a decent gamble to stay on the board and its ranged attack allows it to benefit from the Nentyar's Cfx. On the other hand, it's competing with frenzied beserkers and wemic barbarians (if you want the large base for blocking) so I don't think it's a gimme and the Nentyar hunter band is hardly demonstrated tier 1 material either.

| I think he could benfit from the fly 8 of the mephling, but if your playing CG there are better choices just over 50 points. If you use the coutal to bring the mephling into LG that getting expensive and at that piont I might just go for the gold champion. | | Yes I am Gelatinous.

| I think its attack bonus (especially for ranged) is just too low to use @ its point cost (49?). LG-Gith monk 14 pts cheaper LE-Helmed horror CG-FB CE-Blue slaad is even better | | They just don't know what's good in life...Conan, tell them what is good in life. To rip the boosters. | I think he fits best in the circular file. There are better choices in that point range for every faction.

| Uhhhh ... the back of my shelves?
Seriously: I can't find a tier 1 (competitive) or 2 (best that it can be for the theory of the band, but can't beat the best bandsout there) situation in which he is a sensible piece. | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt. | I've had some fun using him as a blocker for the Arcane Ballista.

| If you were going to use a gulgar, probably LG:
Warpriest of Moradin 2 x Gith Monk Gulgar Other Stuff
Gith to stun enemy commander Gulgar to sonic blast the enemy troops (with commander stunned, forces MC's with Warpriest's Commander Effect) Gulgar also to force enemy to close range and bunch up (hopefully)
It's not a tier 1 piece though no matter what you stack it with.

| I have a little piece of criticism for those here.
Not everyone started playing back in the day or can afford to buy older pieces on Ebay or have pieces to trade. In that respect some of the newer pieces that don't quite fit because you have plenty of the optional plug in's may fit for someone without them. Wizards is keeping it new and fairly competative.
That being said if you do not have the listed pieces for the requisite warbands the Gulgar can fit. IT may not be the best fit but can do. Adjust the tactics accordingly. As with many multi-functional things it isn't quite as good as the original but can possibly do the job.

| Gulgar could be used in LG okay. Still I'd rather have a Justicator 9 times out of 10. It's just a better piece for just one more point. If the Justicator didn't exist or the Gulgar was closer to 40 points he'd be a very worthwhile piece for a lot of factions. But he's not, so he isn't.
