| A few weeks ago the Design and Development column on the main D&D page at WOTC shared some insight into why the drow might not be very tough for their point costs. The issues that he addresses are geared towards role-playing, but I think might be more applicable to the skirmish game. In role-playing you can always ignore the CR or add on some class levels or magic items to make them tougher, or just make them a horde. Since we are bound by the point values on the cards, we can't do that. Check it out at

| | I think in the skirmish game, they pay too much for special abilities like conceal 6 and spell resistance. Nothing beats high HP and high damage output in skirmish, and that's why the first five sets were dominated by creatures from the barbarian class. Only recently, have other creatures (elemental, construct, outsider) been given costs more in line with the barbarians. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| I agree that many of the drow (especially the early ones) have been pretty inefficient for their point costs. Part of the reason is that we have a number of drow clerics (Drow Cleric of Lolth, Drow Arachnomancer), Wizards (Drow Wizard, Drow Arcane Guard), and archers (Drow Archer, Drow Warrior, Xen'Drik Champion)- none of which were really high damage output types of creatures. Maybe if a solid drow figher-type piece (maybe in the vein of a Zakya Rakshasa, with good AC, good attack bonuses, and modest damage) came along, we'd see drow more in competitive play.
Another big part of the problem is that until Underdark, the vast majority of drow in DDM were commanders, with no significant piece to use multiples of as a staple in a warband (the Drow Fighter, Drow Warrior, and Drow Archer all pretty much sucked). The Mounted Drow Patrol, Drow Arcane Guard, and Xen'Drik Champion are all very useful pieces that overcome the drow's poor skirmish history where followers are concerned, and hopefully we'll continue to see more useful (and hopefully even a tier 1) drow followers in upcoming sets. And hopefully one of those followers will be a better front-liner than the Draegloth.
At least I really hope so. I love my drow. [:D] | | Champion of the Elf Duskblade | |

| | a problem for Elves in general is the -2 con they take from their RPG stats. This makes them have less HP, and as a result are of less use. Also, a lot of the figures with high damage output come from races with a +2 or +4 to strength. Elves are just average there, so will probably not ever do a lot of damage in combat. An exception would be if they ever made a Champion of Corellon. It could have an ability that adds +5 to damage but only works against things that are not immune to critical. This might help some. | | Looking to buy some figures? Chances are I may have them!! Check here!! My Reference Thread | My Warbands | My Ebay Auctions | My Qualifier Warband Champion of Spellswords
