I've heard that a new set of DDM floor rules is about to be released. The only item I know that has changed is the legality of the "broken" Broken Demongate. I believe that there will be a way to make this a legal map without having the new print of it. This would be pretty useful.

One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :(

Have you seen that Guy's latest FAQ includes a picture of the blocked lines of sight on the Field of Ruin? Since they are almost impossible to see under artificial light this is a must have (and I plan to mark up my map, carefully, to reflect them).

Remember - if you can use all your figures it's 'Full' - if not it's 'Restricted'. Anything that cycles figures out of use in a planned timetable is 'Planned Obsolesence'. Never accept your enemy's terms!

I thought this, too.

But will the "Broken" Broken Demongate and "better marked" Field of Ruin legal in the EC? (Alepulp?)

That would be entirely up to the floor rules, since it is an official event.

Now that I know what the terrain on the Field of Ruin actually is. (Thanks Guy.ΖD])
I notice a "corridor" in the SE corner that narrows so that a huge creature would have to squeeze to go through. I thought Field of Ruin was usable in epic games... [?]

Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything.

After winter fantasy, the following rules will possibly be included in the floor rules
You can only roll 1 die. Rolling 2 dice will be considered "obsfication"
You can only be signed up for 1 tournament at a time.

You know, I understand the argument that says "We can't allow marked-up maps at tournaments because it gives the judges too much work to do." But, seriously, except for maybe the huge conventions, how often does anyone here expect there to be 20 Field of Ruin maps showing up at an event, all of which are marked? Even so, how long would it take a judge to check them? If the judge has his own marked-up map so that a quick inspection shows that the two are the same, it will only take a few minutes to check even a dozen maps.

I'm Sorry, but I don't know the word "obsfication" (that Ack uses) could someone explain it for me?

obfuscate: To make so confused or opaque as to be difficult to perceive or understand: “A great effort was made... to obscure or obfuscate the truth” (Robert Conquest).

Thank you Johnny.quest!

For the 2 dice thing: If my creature has two equal attacks (Eye of Gruumsh) and I say to my opponent I roll both of them, then I can use 2x Dice? (instead rolling one dice 2 times)

You'd still roll one die two times. It doesn't matter if a creature has multiple attacks at the same bonus; there are no "simultaneous" attacks in DDM. You do them one at a time, in the order you announce before rolling.

the specific example was that someone *cough* was rolling 2 dice for every roll.. and clarified that "the orange one never counts". This was felt to be potentially confusing to the opponent.

Gamers are an odd lot. they believe in luck and superstition and such. why else would people bring more than 1 d20 to a match?

I hope not, cos "obsfication" isn't a word. 'Sides, when and why would anyone rolld two dice?

I played against someone in a tournament once who insisted on rolling two dice for every roll. In each case, one of the two was never to be counted. He said something about "synergy" or something. Rather than argue with him about the pointlessness of the endeavor, I just played. I believe I won that match too.

Anyway, I don't see a point in it, and I don't think it should be allowed because it's potentially confusing, a die could land one way and be hit by the other die, prompting calls that it's a foul and shouldn't count, etc., etc.

Bah humbug. Roll 1 die.

It's true, I witnessed the clear problems that both caused. ;)

Rolling 2 dice? - Blame Ack

Playing in two tournies? - Blame Kiddoc!

Was pretty funny though. :)

I had the pleasure of losing to Ack and his two dice! Ack clearly mentioned that he liked to roll two dice and that only the X color one counted. While it was a mild annoyance because it was abnormal to what I'm used to, it didn't bother me enough to ask him to stop. There was never a confusion in our game (well, related to dice [)], that is) but I could certainly see how others might not like the practice. But anytime Ack plays me, he is welcome to his two dice (unless it becomes an official ruling) because he's just a fun guy to play against and a credit to our community.

IN regard to dice, what about this situation, my opponent rolls his die and gets a 15 on the die plus 6 for commander rating for an initiative roll of 21. I then roll my die knowing that I need an 18 or higher to win this critical initiative (my commander rating is 4). I roll an 18 but in the process I hit his die and it is now a 17. Do I still win initiative?

This actually happened and was a critical initiative. My opponent and I let me have the initiative since he had declared his initiative roll as a "21". Did we make the correct decision? We did not ask a judge for a ruling.

Absolutely.

If you and your opponent roll dice at the same time, or at least close enough together, and they hit each other, it's still random. If you wait to see what your opponent rolled, you can't go and 'accidentally' play marbles with the dice. Once a die has settled on the table, that's the roll, folks.

It'd be a really bad precedent to allow a die to be altered (by hitting it with another die) once it has settled. That just leaves too much wiggle room for 'accidents'.

In case one of the dice has exceedingly poor performance metrics and needs to have an immediate performance review with Mr. Claw Hammer?

I asked Ack not to roll both of his dice during our game. The reason is that I want to believe that everyone playing the game is a good person and plays fairly, but I know that if there were two dice I would feel like I had to watch both of them, and if I ever didn't see what the result was I'd start feeling like the other guy was being shady. I know Ack's a good guy, but I also know there's a part of me that would start hating him for forcing me to do extra work watching the dice, so I just sidestepped the issue by asking him not to roll the other one.

It's kinda like saying "don't think of a purple cow."

Actually.. to be fair to Kiddoc, it was my idea that he do it.. and I pointed out it wasnt against the rules. The look on BShugg and Ian's face was worth it as they both threw their brains into gear to see if I was right... and I was.

Mr Schroder - you made me blush. thanks.

Fry - No worries.

BlackFlail - have you heard the stories of the D20 shaped dent in a table at GenCon SoCal? yeah.. um.
