| I like inspired beaters. W/ Marute (sp?) and helmed horror, the monks have either good games or very Baaad games. Cg looks weak- Ryld should never be one of your two best beaters. Death Slaad and Raveger will rip CG and CE bands, but against high ac - not so good. The last one is a standard, solid beater, but why not add the orc drummer? It is the new Couatl for CE.

| I think your best bets are with the LG band and the Tiefling/Wardrummer band.

| High AC bands get hosed by the 2 Chaos hammers.
I still prefer the Dual Death/Blue Slaad version, for that extra Hammer, but I can see that vs CE beaters, that the extra 20 damage possible a round might help. However, +10/+5 for 30 is only as good as your rolling, compared to +15/+15 for 20, even vs AC15.
That being said, that would be my choice of bands to run from the above.
The LE band would be better I think, sans Inspired Lt, replaced with one of the other similar costed LE commanders. CG just...isn't very viable currently. AoK and Brass Sam seems to be the most competitive, (although Beserkers can still be dangerous) LG has it's good and bad matchups...good...CE w/out Wardrummer, bad...Marut, HH, and then somewhat even would be CE w/ wardrummer

| I think the Monks are your best warband. To all people saying Marut is a bad matchup... (just watchout the Monks shred you in pieces)

Well the last band with the big beaters would be great with the wardrummer, but I currently don't have one. I was thinking it would be great, but not in my collection yet.
The LE band was the one I liked, but I was not sure how it would hold up. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

I need a wardrummer to pull that off. I know it is a good piece, but I need to find one. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

The monks give LG one thing they really need and that is speed. They can out manouver a Marut and force the battle to take place where they want it. Or they can ignore the Marut and go after other pieces. I'm just not sure they are a sold Tier 1 or not, or if I should try something else out. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

The only similiar costed commanders are the Blackguard for one point more, and Ogre Mage for one point less.
The Blackgaurd has a slower speed, slightly better first attack and worse second attack. The BG has a smite good while the inspired has a smite and for more damage. The BG does have a cure wounds, but the Inpsired has empathic transfer touch to cause damage and heal herself.
The Ogre Mage just does not have what I'm looking for. Almost everything is lower, except for damage, which in non magical. The spells are nice, but the DCs are low meaning many will be missed.
Just trying to think up some new bands. Thanks for the discussion. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

That looks the strongest, try replacing the Mounted drow by a couple of Cursed Spirits to improve the DC checks on the death slaads. And a Timberwolf would be a much better tile grabber than the Orc Spearfighter. Also it's stun attack is a noticable threat against opposing low-AC beatstiks (FB's Orc champs etc) Well as "noticable" as it gets for a 5pt figure... | | Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything.

This one stuck in my head for a couple of reasons. 1 - the two chaos hammers to attept to hurt a bunch in each shot. Also the fire resistnance of the Ravager in case you need some front line protection for fire (gauth, elf pyromancer, etc). The reason I went with the MDP was for the free safe drive by attack. Hitting from reach two while moving and moving back is really interesting especially on a map like the outpost.
The timber wolf is a good idea though, thanks! | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

Hmmmm I think I know someone who has one.... Bring your trade bait this weekend!
FYI: the "local" meta has included mostly LE and LG bands (and no monks) of course, things change...

Is that local including Wardrums??? Well I know the big talk has been the Marut with body guard and as always the HH and Chraal. So I was trying something new, but attempting to keep it tier 1. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

That is pre wardrums... But there was a lot of fascination with Marut's, and all the various LE combo's. Hard to imaginet hat everyone is going to be playing Wardrummer variants (though I'm sure we will see some.).

Well it is hard to look past several of the WD pieces espeically the bodyguard in LG and the drummer in CE I'm sure we will see several builds including each of those per faction. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event
