this was probably asked way back when the eye of gruumsh first came out, but when the eye hits, he takes 5 damage. incoporeal doesn't negate the hit, it negates the damage if i understand it correctly, so in theory, vs. incoporeal creatures, the eye can hurt himself without hurting the opposing creature.

is this how it works or have i missed something?

I think that's the correct interpretation, but I'd need to check the EoG card to be sure. If it says 'hits' then that would be it, if it says 'damages' then the other way round.

Remember - if you can use all your figures it's 'Full' - if not it's 'Restricted'. Anything that cycles figures out of use in a planned timetable is 'Planned Obsolesence'. Never accept your enemy's terms!

The card says "hits" .... but I don't know what the official ruling is. Based upon the language used, I'd say no, the Viscious Attack ability would not function.

If you read the glossary definition of incorporeal it states the creature takes no damage and the "hit counts as a miss if the roll is made for an attack". So, if the incorporeal check is not passed, the Eye would not take damage from the viscious weapon, because it counts as a miss.

Not damaging the Eye of Gruumsh on a missed incorp check also makes sense from an RPG persepective - though you can't always go by this rule.

A miss is a miss. Incorporeal or conceal have a net result of "miss", thus no damage from Vicious Attack.

Or think of it this way: The Eye is holding that stupid, double-ended axe. He can swing it okay through air, but when it connects, the forward/striking edge stops (albeit in an opponant) and the back end then "kicks" back in to the eye because of the energy being used in the swing is not completely expended in the strike. If he misses on incorporeal, he is swinging through blank air and the back end doesn't "kick" back in to him.
