| So, we're all headed into qualifier season, so it's time to start lying about what bands we're testing, and lying about what bands we're seeing lots of at our local venues.
[:)]
So, what's got you jittery? Tired of facing all those Marut bands?
I, for one, am a little tired of Helmed Horrors (won't stop me from playing them though).

| All those Ochre Jelly warbands scare me. Strikeback is just so powerful! You can't attack them without being attacked back! The worst part is they are wandering monsters and get victory points so easily!

| Oh believe me I've thrown down more Ochre Jellies in recent past than most people have played ever. I use them often mostly because they are annoying for my opponent and way fun for me. It's the only warband I've played that I take as many AOOs as possible so I can strike back. On occasion my opponent won't take the AOO which is even funnier. The variations of warbands they fit in are numerous. Helmed Horrors and Ochre Jellies is a nice pairing. Lich Necro and Jellies is a nice combo too. What I really need is an Oozemaster! I have played 5 of the oozes in a game easily but it's still pretty iffy. Low attack bonuses are rough. Still they as I said are a ton of fun to play.

| 4 things:
1: Our qualifier is early this year so I can't steal good ideas from other qualifiers. That was my saving grace last year.
2: I have hardly played in months and am not playing well when I do.
3: Helmed Horrors
4: I may not play, and may judge, meaning if I go to GenCon I need to play in the grinder if I want to compete in the championships. | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

| I'm a little worried about facing the fearless, 8 Horde Zombie band, they could overwhelm you in round 3.
As this will be my first season with any attempt at being competitive. I'm really looking forward to getting my rear end handed to me on a regular basis. Now that I've decided I'm willing to drive the hour and a half to Raleigh.
I've never faced an old school CE Quad. Now that Wardrummer has them back in vogue, it's the thing I'm contemplating more than anything else. And the HGB is scary run by a good player. | | Two trades completed!! (Krush,Hides From Hurricanes) Champion of the Aaracokra Herald Of Snig Goblin King

| Jesse has shown what the dual HGB can do. HH's still control the metagame you have to beat them. Marut is a viaable option. Not real sure about CG's chances - FB's whirlwinding is nice but will it go the distance? So the real question is: Who's afraid of the Ulmo, Village Priest, Arcanix Guards... build? I'll tell you who - those with Spell Resistance! Not real sure what I'm gonna run yet - hopefully whatever it is I win with it!! I'll see you boys @ Indy. | In addition to the amusement, there are some good serious posts here. I think it's wise to be worried about some of these things. Let's take a look at what you'll have to be prepared for:
1) Quad Helmed Horrors 2) Two Helmed Horrors, other LE hitters, and a strong commander 3) Dual Hill Giant Barbarians 4) Marut, Couatl, Warforged Bodyguard played well 5) Outlier bands (Archmage, Beholder, Large Red Dragon, Large Silver Dragon) 6) Quad CE with Wardrummer 7) Dual Aspect of Kord band with solid initiatives
Yikes, that's a lot to deal with.

Other than that, I think finding a warband that can handle the gamut is going to be tough. There are so many solid warbands out there, that it will be tough. There are no particular bands or figures I fear to face, but there are a few local players who - nice guys though they are - I pray are stricken with explosive diarrhea that morning.
What really freaks me out is if this actually happened and I somehow miraculously won the qualifier by deafult figuting out how in the hell I would get to GenCon to participate. [)]

| | Honestly, I usually don't worry about the bands too much. I'll figure out which band I feel has a good overall chance and which band I seem to pilot the best and that goes with my own playstyle (this matters most to me). Because most of the time, it's not the warband that wins, it's the pilot's strategy. (as long as the warband isn't completely crap). Last year at the Qualifier in NJ, I piloted a Beholder/Gauth Warband and went 4-1 (took 5th and didn't qualify, arghh). I beat 3 Quad CE bands, and lost to 1. The warband I played really wasn't the best warband around at the time, but it fit my playstyle and I knew how to pilot it well. I went to GenCon and played in the Grinder. This time I played CE Triple beater, (Hezrou, Red Samurai, Orc Champ, Cursed Spirit x 2, and Orc Warrior x 6, 11 activations). I felt quite unique since I seemed to be the only person piloting a Hezrou, but there may have been another. I really didn't playtest too much with this since there wasn't much time from the time Angelfire was released and GenCon. But I played with it and went 4-2 (9th place... Double ARGHHH!). Anyway, I guess my point is, play with what you are comfortable with and know how to beat certain warbands. Find a warband that fits your playstyle. I hope to get more playtesting in though before these qualifiers, I'd love to actually qualify this year. | | | |

You lose when your opponent gets 200 pts, or when 10 rounds have passed without an attack roll or save roll made. At that point you go to points, whoever has most points wins. If there is a tie in points, you go to the tiebreakers, which, if all 8 Kobolds are elminated, means you will lose. The first tie breaker is closest model to center of map.

| Worry over getting bad rolls has me more jittery than anything else.
I swept my qualifier last year with strong play and a lot of luck. Now I fear if I don't get the luck in a tough match I'll end with just one loss and not qualify on tiebreakers. To know you played the best you could only to lose a tight game on a single roll and then because of that one loss you don't qualify. That would suck.
The competiton keeps getting better and the warband choices are getting so diverse that it will take a lot of luck to win it all.

| Parity.
There's so much that is competitive, i don't expect to see dominance in one build, or even one faction. CE walked all over the qualifier I was at last year (I think 6/8) This year, there's so much to worry about, I really don't actually worry. Just play what you know, what you can handle well, and that's it.
