| So which dragon is better in epic, huge red or huge gold.
Gold cost 75 more points. But the gold also has a lot better to attack, a second breath weapon, more hp/ac/speed. Higher saves on breath weapons, higher aura of fear. But also does lower damage on its attacks. The gold is going to hit with every attack though most of the time, even in epic with AC's reaching the high 20's and low 30's. The red is going to hit harder but with 2 attacks at +11 its going to miss quite a bit when it starts swinging at 28 AC mini's.
Just wondering what everyones opinion is, we had this discussion last night at our tourney and just want to see what everyone else thinks about it. | | Ha:19 of 80! De:43 of 60! Ar:24 of 60! | The Gold, but, not on his own merits alone. I pick Gold because the Couatl with the Gold is tougher than the Orc Druid with the Red.

| | With the current high AC in epic, I like the HGD. Don't forget, that while its +1 ac and 10 extra hp may not be much, it is F12 instead of F9, which I think is significant. | | Larry Lindeman trade refrences: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12442 | |

| Save = 10
*shudder*
I'd rather use epic pieces these days. But from those two, I'd go for the Red since the Wardrummer is an cheap and easy way to help with the Save=10 problem. | | Champion of the Sarrukh

| | I personally go with the hgd. I think it's better even with the increased points. HRD, I'd rather run 6 HGB's. | | Official Delegate, Wizards of the Coast Icons Called Shot: Gargantuan Prismatic Dragon "Rejoice, for bad things are about to happen." | |

| In most cases the HGD will out perform the HRD. If you run into a lot of low AC then the Red becomes better but I've never liked its relatively low attack. I really would have liked them to split the difference in the dragons; increase the HGD damage while lowering the attack and increasing the HRD attack even if it means lowing the damage. If you could avoid fire damage the Large Silver Dragon could be the best dragon for epic, at least until WotDQ comes out.
The save on the HGD can be helped by the Cleric of Order with fewer problems than the Wardrummer helping the HRD.

| | I like to analogize this debate to the LSD v. the LRD in 200 point debate (if there was one...). The LSD is a better "stand alone" fig with higher AC, HP, a second breath weapon, etc. The LRD, however, allows space for more "tech" (and even a 2nd LRD, though this isn't the case for the HRD [:p]). | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!" | |

| It really depends on who is supporting the dragon
Heck if your opponent is numerically challenged use a dragon totem to bring both [}:)] (what's an extra 65 points anyway [:p]) | | Champion of Cyclops

| | When GOL first came out, the HGD was better because LG has higher commander ratings and the Cleric of Order/Eberk to help prevent a game-ending rout. Now, with the Orc Wardrummer (or maybe two, using the 2nd to nerf a HGD), I believe the HRD is the better team player. 75 extra points is a lot of support to help make up the Gold's individual superiority. Just add a creature with stench and use it to flank, in order to help out the HRD's lower attack bonuses. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

You can bring both the HRD and the Couatl to CG (with the Dragon totem hero and Elminster) and put in the Crow shaman to replace the orc druid and you have the best of both worlds, you could even cast blur on it if you want with Nebin (ok you only have about 40pts left, but it is still fun)

| | I don't think it's a good idea to have both of the huge dragons in one warband. There are many things that are immune, or at least resistant, to fire. Also, they aren't all that great in melee for their cost. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |
