| I am trying to put together a decent themed Thayan squad for 200 pts. this is what I have
Red-Wizard {Ldr} Thayan Knight Skullcrusher Ogre Snig the Axe {& 3 croonies} Goblin Adept 2 x Kobold Sorcerers 1 Draconian {forget which one} 8 activations [ 11 with sniglets ] 2 - Beaters Synergy with spellcasting. Range attacks {Magic} works quite well, Back up commander
I have to take on a player who just plays Lawful good. So this group that I put together "And never tested" seems ready for action. Your thoughts?

| | I used to be a huge fan of the thayan knight but since the chraal,s release she has become an almost useless creature. If you look at the numbers on the status card, you will see the chraal cost the same and its better in almost everything.Yes,I love her,but never play her again. | | LOVE THIS GIRL | |

| | Consider the Deathlock, they are VERY good with the Red Wizard! And, as an aside, if DDM wanted to introduce "BODYGUARD" with any figure, it should have been with the Thayan Knight! | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!" | |

Well, she would be if archers were actually made VIABLE. | There is any good use of the deathlock? i got plenty and i really start to hate him, nobody wants him for exchange!
Nice squad i´m taking ideas! the trouble for being competitive is to have the right pieces, for a theme warband is really nice one. | | Knight of the Quori Champion of King Kaius III of Karrnath

Were it not for the fact that Helmed Horrors are quite popular, the Deathlock would be a good piece with the Red Wizard. But, the Red Wizard isn't a good piece to begin with anymore.

| I know that this is not in the levels of tier-1 bands. I was just trying for a Theme'd Thayan Squad , and I had to include the Red-Wizard and Thayan Knight. Now sure, there are other pieces that are better - but thats not the point - I have Chraals in other warbands. The idea was to put together a Warband that would represent a Thayan scouting party/ Raiding party ..etc. It works on the strengths of the Red-Wizard making the other spellcasters put out much more damage with the Thyan Knight and the SKullcrusher Ogre providing the beef. This group is not meant for Excel Tier 1 status, though I think it could surprise some people, because it does have some strengths and yet still many weak spots. It is meant for someone to play something different from the norm. I tried it out against my friends "LG" band - Now he only has about 40 minis from HB through GOL But it actually won against a Paladin of Torm band. I printed out "Thayan-Inscursion" on warband-generator and put the warband in its own box. Thank you all for your inputs. They are greatly appreciated.[:)]

| Looks like a fun warband, but I would drop the Goblin Adept, one of the Kobold Sorcerers and the Draconian to pick up something more potent. Having 11 activations is nice, but you could use a little more meat in your design. Not sure what you could get for those points, perhaps a Duergar Champ? You might also trade the Skullcrusher in for another Duergar Champ. Good luck! :)

| Picked up a win this week-end against a "LG" Dwarf-Defender warband. Yes I do need better hitters in this band - the spell chuckers did great. | | | |

Congrats on your win!
One of my first skirmishes "back in the day" (right after Archfiends came out) was my Dwarven Defender band vx. Zdrake's Red Wizard band. I learned I couldn't have had a worse match-up. Slow moving Dwarves gave the Red Wizard and his Casting allies targets for too many rounds as the Dwarves inched their way towards him. One a positive note, the Dwarves did manage to take a brutal assortment of spells and still hang on 'til the end - yay high saves and HP! But it just wasn't enough. LG bands need to include some sort of Commander / Caster defense and the best way to do that is a mobile unit that can base the Commander / Caster. | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!"

| I like Direguards with Red Wizards. A couple MM then a decent blocker.
Another consideration, trade the Skullcrusher for a Half-Fiend Ogre. It may not have the AC or Saves but it can hit much harder and adds another area spell to your arsenal.
