Longstrider Ranger
He's very nasty, with the ponential for 20 damage a turn, fantastic speed, a great flanker, pretty good AC for CG, and Death Strike. | | My Trading Thread

| I'm going with the Champion of Eilistraee on this one for the following reasons:
-Excellent Commander Effect (+2 atk., +2 AC to followers with swords) -Fantastic AC for a CG piece (22) -Decent melee combatant with 2 attacks at +13/+8 for 15 magic damage. -Finally has some decent drow figures to bring in with her Warband Building ability, such as the Mounted Drow Patrol, Drow Arcane Guard, and Lolth's Sting. | | Champion of the Elf Duskblade

Really?! I haven't checked, is the DMP and the Arcane Guard list a sword on the RPG side? Imight need to take a look at that...

| Underrated mini, eh? I'd have to go with the Centaur Hero: Sure, if he's based, you're pretty much screwed, but on the right map (*cough*tombofqueenperegrin*cough*) the Centaur Hero can be deadly.
Of course, if you end up on the wrong map... | | Check out my DDM Blog: http://scifirules.livejournal.com "I will pay my dues when you send me my tusks!" -Strong Bad Champion of Chainmail Equivalencies | Knight of Efficient Fodder WotDQ Called Shot: Large Green Dragon (VINDICATED) | Blood War Called Shot: Large Brass Dragon | Unhallowed Called Shot: Skeletal Troll

HA HA HA!!!! [:D] He's either going to say that or Brass Samurai. I'm going to put my money on Brass Samurai, just because of him ranting about it last time we played together. That and his FAQ he wrote on it. No offense Pegasus Knight. | OK - got some replies up, so now it is my turn.
Aasimar Favored Soul
I don't see this guy used in many warbands, but he offers a lot for the point cost. 2-to-1 cost to hp ratio, Illuminator, good resists, decent save, bless, and magic weapon. CLW probably isn't worth the activation - only *very* conditionally. Sound Burst could prove extremely useful in certain situations (gets rid of clustered Orc Warrior fodder quite nicely.) Finally, the melee damage sucks, but the to-hit isn't god awful, so with a half-orc paladin he could be used in melee in a pinch. | | Champion of the Cleric with Raise Dead

I think he got SCREWED w/ 10 magic damage, but with the Half-Orc Paladin as a commander (or the Cleric of St. Cuthbert...) he could get 2 reliable attacks for 15 magic damage. That and he Powerful Charges for +5 through difficult Terrain - Stable Footing is nice! With AC 22, DR 5, Living Construct immunities and 80HP, he's an absolute tank. All this for 36 points - Gotta love that. Drawback - he's kinda slow, but what in LG isn't? | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!"

| Nah; it's not the Pegasus or the Sam Rye. The Celestial Pegasus clearly isn't underrated; it's in the Core Toolkit. So clearly our top 'think-tank' folks think it's a good piece and I strongly agree. The Brass Samurai isn't underrated either. It's only slightly overcosted, perhaps 3 points at most. But 'Underrated?' It's already Toolkit, and a lot of people acknowledge its power already. Neither of these are underrated.
My actual answer to this question would be: Wood Woad. For 15 points you get a 4:1 HP to Cost ratio, and its melee attacks are decent. Not great, but decent. Combined with it being Level 8, AC 17, and Plant immunities, it makes a great blocker. You wait and see; when CG gets more worthwhile archers, this piece will come into style with a vengeance. But it's currently underrated. | | - Irrationally Fanatical Champion of Pegasus-mounted cavalry - Proud member of Team Low Tier Beasting: I play CG as my main faction! - Garland, TX 2006 Qualifier Champion My trading thread: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19725

^^ Chairman knows the score.
Heavy unlimited damage at sight and up close, mix of energy types, and acid arrows go through SR. Cheap, has blurs and magic weapons to mix it up. He dies easilly, but the fact you can chug out 25/ turn within 6 even when based is downright handy.

| My current favorite is the GHAST!
This beauty from Giants of Legend has come back into my focus because of the change in difficult creatures. Since it is undead already, it is always out of command, but who cares! It always saves on morale!!!
For 25 points, you get 10 damage plus paralysis on every attack. You might think that a DC15 paralysis is not that great, but let us not forget STENCH! Yes, it makes the opponents save at a 17...just a bit harder, and their AC goes down and yours goes up!
The only drawback is that it has only 30 hitpoints. If it had 10 more for the same price, this guy would be everywhere. Even still, playing this guy (or two) in a band with a HGB can be deadly! | | A wand of silence means never having to say you're sorry. CHAMPION OF THE ANNIS HAG!!!

All this commander needs is a decent elf or half elf melee figure and it will shine very brightly.
I agree there. A nice Elf Spearmaiden or something.. might look like this.
Lvl 8 Cost 40 Speed 8 HP 70 AC 16 +15/+8 (15 magic+5 elec) Reach 2 Set Against Charge 10
Shed look pretty nice with the Cleric leading a force of them.

| After seeing the Lemure I'd have to agree if only it was faster than speed 4. It's fearless makes Difficult basically a non-issue and its host of immunities/resistances make it difficult to eliminate without sending a "real" piece after it. As stated, its a 5 point fodder that require two hits to kill from some Tier 1 pieces costing 7+ times as much.
Another piece that is more interesting since the rush requirement for difficult has been removed is the Ochre Jell. If it starts on a victory area I can see it getting removed before covering its points unless your opponent devotes heavy resources to do so.

With tiles I had sucess using him in CE defensive builds (Clay golem and ZWD I love you), but lately I haven't used him. He's quite solid for his cost however, and whilst being slightly ssquishy, he's pretty sturdy for a spellcaster.

| | Well, someone asked me to run an Epic Mordenkainen band recently. They wanted to see what I can do with Epic Mordy + seven Celestial Pegasi, which should be 493 points and 8 activations. I'm certainly willing to give that a try as soon as I get the pieces I need. I've got Mordy, have 3 Pegasi already, and 2 more coming in the mail, leaves me just two short of that warband.
