At our league night Wednesday nigh I ran a Charrl band against

Gauthx2
K miner
Wartroll
Dark naga

This was a warband that I don’t expect to see at any major tournaments however against my warband it has some advantages. I got Drowoutpost my map by default he did not bring a map (in fact I may have taken a different map if it had less LOS.)

I did my normally placement taking the bridge early, His last activations was to send his K miner to the bridge in a place where I could make a full attack on him with the charrl. I think he did this for victory points, however it came down to the winning move of the game.

I win 2nd round init and know need to clear the bridge. This charrl did not have magic weapon so at a +10 with 2 attacks and the K miner needs to make a moral check on each one I’m set to clear the bridge. Swing 1 I roll a 3 (missed by 1) MC, he rolls an 18 and saves (the naga could see him) 2nd attack a 3!! MC an 18!! Right then and their I told him that may well be the game winning move. I used a breath weapon to clear the Kobold (and could only get the Kobold) after that it was hard to get my Charrls in places to attack well he was attacking with the gauths so the charrls were taking 60 dmg per round. With that it came down to his untouched gauths and my commander, witch was game. It was not a happy game for me.

I also had some bad rolls but even with the bad rolls if i could have killed or made the miner run i had a strong chance of winning

Just thought I would share my hard times.

At least you didn't roll back to back 1's several times in one game like I have been known to do. Pegasus Knight had the same luck as me last game. I rolled back to back 1's at least 3 times that game and he did about the same too. Thats not counting all the other rolled 1's in that game, witch happened even more! Morale checks, DC checks, conceal checks, etc. etc. It made for a good laugh anyway.

At the prerelease I played a band with the kobold miner he was set up on the complete opposite side of the board from where the rest of the warband was battling it out.

The miner was collecting VP while the bulk of both our warbands were fighting each other on the other side of the board. My opponent had sent a loth's sting to take it out. The battle took 7 rounds and for all 7 rounds the sting and the miner traded blows and none of them hit each other and the miner made every save earning 70 VP's while doing so.

This was made more amazing by the fact my commander,A trog captain, failed his paralazation save 5 times in a row basically costing me the game but the 70 VP made the game very close anyway

they can be an amazing peace for some odd reason. One thing i wish they had from their RPG side is x4 on crits... i would be fine with a x3. But i have seen and rolled myslef more crits with K-miner than any other peace.

I love it when the little guys crit. I was in a very close mirror match game with an Aspect of Moradin last week. I had been rolling grim all game...then my Hill Giant Warrior rolled a crit on his Aspect.

My luck turned right around and I squeaked out a win.

I think the gauth is one of the must-have LE creatures but I think I,ll never run two of them at the same time again, because it works great but there,re a lot of couatl out there and its a very high risk.

Venport, that was some really bad luck on your part, combined with some really good luck for your opponent. It happens sometimes. You would have probably won if you got over the bridge just a bit earlier.

Bad rolls happen.

I once managed to Enslave Ulmo with the Balor while the little guy was under command.

Well kobold miner despite the opinion of many people is one of the best miniatures ever, because:

- Could attack and even score critical
- Could Grab tiles from the begining of game
- Nobody wants to expend a +12 (15 magic) killing him
- if he got killed your oponent don´t score 3 points

My league partners at first hate it but now everybody workships him, because he scores a critical agaisnt a balor making him rout, and once he killed a severy wounded Iron golem with a critical hit too!
Those miracles make him worth a lot. I really like him and many people are scared of a huge version in WODQ

Iron Golems are immune to critical hits (it would still hit but the damage isn't doubled (not sure if this matters to the situation you're describing).

The Kobold Miner is an exceptional piece. Play 3 on the Drow Outpost and you are essentially guaranteed first-turn victory points. I would be shocked [:o] and dismayed [V] to find a Huge Kobold in WotDQ.
