Looking for 2 good beholder bands, 200 and 500.
My current 200 is:

83 Beholder
39 Gauth
41 Dark Naga
36 Zakya Rakshasa

199 points 4 Activations

For 500 I was thinking:

244 Lord Soth EPIC
166 Beholder x2
90 points extra looking for some decent fighters. Thinking about a Death Kinght and some fodder. Looking for suggestions and what has worked well in the past.
Thanks.

I have seen the Thaskor use to very good effect in a Beholder band. It has enough hp ac to last in epic and the stun cone can give the beholders an extra turn of eye rays. course that leaves you with a 4 pt filler but you would get 7 activations (couting the dual on beholders).

For the 200pt band even though I love the Zakya I think most beater bands will roll right over/past him and your beholder is in trouble because the naga while it is nice won't hold them off long.

500
Try This
Epic Soth
2x Beholders
Dark Naga
Snig The Axe( +3 Skirmishers )
Green Dragon

11 Activations, Green Dragon For Tiles. DC 19 Eye Rays
Deathknight Has To Low HP, And You Alrdy Have Great Abysal. If They Immune To Fire, Waisted Points When They Kill Him In Like 1 Activation ( Like Kord Or Something )

200 You Could Always Use....
2x Beholder
Urthok The Vicious

^_^

I want to try dual beholders on the teleport temple. [:p]
The basic idea is to start a turn on a teleporter, go to another, move 2 squares, look at something, look at something again, move back to the teleporter, and pop back were you came from (or somewhere else that's safer).
Dual activations are very cool when combined with teleporters, and the amount of the map that can be seen from within 2 squares of a teleporter is amazing. - Excluding the start areas, there are about 20 squares that can only be seen from near 2 teleporters, and most are between 4 and 6, and there's one that can be seen from near 9. [:0]
The question is, what else do you put in the band... do you go with Urthok, or do you go with something like the green dragon to unblock teleporters for you? (yes, I realise that the green dragon is useless if you loose the map init, but that's not the point [:p]). Just think how fun it would be as you sit there and watch your opponent's head explode [)]

I dont like the Beholder on Teleport Temple. At first it seems like a good idea. The problem is that the Beholder takes ages to reach the first teleporter. By the time you reach it, its likely that the enemys faster beaters are already either basing you, are damn near it. And with the fact that Beholder bands cant afford a commader with a high commader rating, its not unusual to have a beater in your face at the start of round two.

Another downside is that you can use a teleport once a round with a single creature, so you cant use the Dual Activation to tele twice I'm afraid.

With a death knight and better a lord soth, the beholder is a completely nightmare for its rivals and a very hard of beating team.

Out of those two Death Knight is a tad too expensive for my taste. Even if you keep healing it it wont last that long vs. HGBs, Orc Champs, Marut+Couatl, etc. But it does work pretty ok vs anything that doesnt do 30+ damage on every attack.

Now Lord Soth is otherwise just great, since you get both a beater and a commader in one package. The only problem is the current meta that heavily favors the Lawful factions and their high ACs. With the anemic attack bonuses Soth has he wont be hitting that much, leaving the killing for the Beholder. And since the Lawful factions have high saves too, you'll have a hard time getting any good ray effects to work. And lets not forget that 2 hits from an HGB leave Soth at 5 hp...

I think that the Beholder could be an interesting choice for someone dedicated to playing a spoiler, especially against CE (though with the Wardrummer, you either require a Naga or have to accept the much lower frequency of success). Otherwise, I think the Beholder is no longer a strong competitor.

here is something to take a look at for Epic.

Epic Soth
Beholder
Khumat
Aspect of Bane
Baaz Dracionan x2
Kobold Miner

Khumat and the aspect of bane are there to force morale checks at -8 then get the love from Epic Soths commander effect.

If you just want to be a jerk. you can stone your Baaz's and sit you large bases one square behind them and block off large portions of a map, leaving only flying creatures and creatures with melee reach 3 which there a few in Epic Assult. But there are some nice spots on QPT that you can effectivly hole up in and just use the beholder to take pot shots at everyone.

Nice thing about Beholder Soth is that the beolder can range heal Soth. However its only for 20 points at a time. I would love to see an Epic Beholder =) that would frighten a lot of people I am sure.
