When I open packs or cases, I always open the cards 2 packs at a time. This way I can build sealed bands with them as practice. It adds a bit of value to each pack and ends up being a lot of fun as well. The pulls I had today were pretty interesting so I thought I would share.

Go ahead and come up with what you would build for each one. I will provide what I did at the end.

Sealed pull 1:
75 Aspect of Hextor
36 Zakya Rakshasa

56 Brass Samurai
45 Inspired Lieutenant
38 Mephling Pyromancer
36 Fiendish Girillon
36 Fiendish Girallon
18Sacred Watcher

26 Orc Mauler
14 Horde Zombie
13 Axe Soldier
12 Goblin Blackblade
11 Hobgoblin Archer
10 Quaggoth Slave
9 Hunting Cougar
4 Skeletal Legionnaire

----------------------------------------------------------

Sealed #2

59 Shuluth, Archvillian
42 Snig, Worg Rider

49 Warpriest of Moradin
27 Tiefling Blademaster
78 Hill Giant Barbarian
15 Large Duergar
11 Frost Dwarf
11 Karnathi Zombie

15 Howling Orc
15 Howling Orc
13 Axe Soldier
12 Halfling Slinger
10 Quaggoth Slave
10 Quaggoth Slave
9 Hunting Cougar
7 Shieldwall Soldier

------------------------------------------------

Go ahead and see what you would of built. Take a few minutes and throw some lists together.

My versions:

Band 1
Brass Samurai
Aspect of Hextor
Zakya Rakshasa
Sacred Watcher
Quaggoth Slave
Skeletal Legionnaire

It seems pretty clear you need to run both rares as you don't have any other power figs. Neither has the greatest saves for their costs unfortunatly. Both commanders offer the same rating (4) to bump up moral saves so thats the best you can do. After that you have to decide which commander offers more. I once told a friend at the wardrums sealed "There's two types of wardrums sealed bands: Ones that have a chance to win, and ones that run Inspired Lt. and have no chance." Its a pretty broad statement, but its mostly true. Theres too many big nasty figures you have to deal with that you can't waste 45 points on a figure that does so little for your band. That makes Brass Samurai the choice for me by default. I did quickly skim to see if I could fit the axe soldier in as well if I went with the LT. but its not the case unless I go down to 5 activations or cut the amazing sacred watcher or quaggoth. Definatly not worth it.

The band lacked good commons and uncommons to really go nuts with variety. I think most people will build something similar.

How would the band do?
Decent I think, I think it can beat most average sealed pulls on the strength of Hextor supported by some decent support hitters. I would expect it to finish around 4-2 on average at a 6 round event. Failed MC's will cost the band more than one game I am certain.

Band 2:

Shuluth, Archvillain
Hill Giant Barbarian
Howling Orc
Large Duergar
Axe Soldier
2 Quaggoth Slaves

WOW! I would have to say that this is the strongest pull I have seen in a wardrums sealed. You could make one only slightly better if you got to pick and choose what figures to put in your packs. You have three amazing commander choices to go with (Shuluth, Warpriest, Tiefling), an autoplay big hitter, and duplicates of 2 of the best commons, and other goodies. This build is actually pretty hard to come up with. Warpriest of Moradin is so good, but I think Shuluth edges him out when combined with the impressive hitters. Shuluth's commander effect will win games by itself just on the number of extra attacks you will get. The Warpriest can do the same with his effect, and is arguably more powerful, but requires some work to get rolling. Shuluth just goes nuts from the beginning. Note if I had a few more points to work with I could of played the warpriest + 2nd howling orc and would most certainly have done so. After completing my build I tried a tiefling + all the hitters build, and it just wasn't as good as either of the bigger commanders.

The band can split into two groups if needed. The fast hitters and Shuluth with Duergar and Axe Soldier bodyguards.

How would the band do?
I would expect a 6-0 with this band and would be extremely dissapointed with less than a 5-1. It has all the tools you need to handle anything you would meet in the field, with the only weakness coming from a possible failed MC on the Hill giant. Even then he should have done enough damage for the rest of the meat + shuluth to mop up. Having such a "techy" commander lets a good player really outplay his opponents. The success rate of a shuluth band goes way up in capable hands.

The second is easy - Shuluth, Hill Giant and Quaggoths as a core. That's a mighty cool pull.

Got to think on the first a bit.
