Since my son did a great job at the EU Championships, it made me think that it would be fun to see how many such teams there are and how they are doing. Dave and I play fairly regularly, but not as often as I'd suggest we should. We discuss strategy, warband building ideas and the metagame a lot.

Our average DCI rankings are:

Constructed: 1726 EDIT: EU change added
Limited: 1652
Extreme: 1641

How are others doing? I think there are a few others out there doing pretty well, based on the recent qualifiers.

(oh, include daughters and mothers also - since my daughter is slowly coming online [:p] )

One of these days WoTC will update their tournament page when I'm in the top 5... they never seem to do when I'm in that bracket :(

My son's DCI soared past mine, he's 8th in Michigan now, and I'm back at 12th. His DCI is something like 1675, I think. We are about equal at home, but, in Constructed tournament play against me, he's 2-0.

I suspect that the champions would be Pat Lynch and Declan Lynch... I know that Declan has respectible numbers, and coupled with Pat's very good Constructed number, I'd bet their a synch.

Yeah Declans constructed numbers are good coming at 56 ranked with 1735. They'd have that wrapped up.

My son's DCI numbers and mine are both quite low, but then again we tend to swim with the sharks...

But since this is all about dad's bragging rights....

We both qualified for gencon last year. (count for something?)
He was the youngest player to place in a qual (11 years old).
He split the AZ prize with Smyrin, finishing second.
He finished 17th overall at championships at Gencon.
(I finished 4th behind Dagni)
So maybe we could join the club, too. [:)]

Let it be.

Chairman Jr. and I both play. His DCI rating is higher than mine, too. :)

We're both playing in the Santa Clara qualifier, looking forward to it.

Ya I'm in the low 1732s and my son is 1563 (soon to be moving up I suspect).
Very proud of him for many things including showing up his dad at the qualifier.
Maybe we should do a Father/Son draft pods at the MM tourney this year.
This game is a good outlet for parent/child bonding. Now If I could just get the daughter interested.

I agree - having a shared hobby like this is great. My daughter is an eager learner, but, at the age of 9, is still trying to work out how to play effectively. It will come - she has potential... :)

Sounds good. I was thinking about this last night. I was thinking it would be cool if we drafted in pods, but when we played, we always played across the generation gap so a father was always playing a son. Give all the Dads a chance to get beat by someone else's son for a change.

I have two boys that play. My 10 year old is in the mid to low 1500's but was once ranked #1 in MA in Extreme. My 8 year old is about the same and once paid attention through 3 entire rounds of a game.[:p]

I can't wait until the little one grows up a bit and can start joining us more regularly. I don't think we'll be challenging the Lynches, the Zaukeries or the Newtoncains to a blood match anytime soon though.

My son Mark and I both play, although he's away at University at the moment and not playing as much as I am (and he missed the EU Championships due to his exams).

Hopefully we'll get some gaming in over the summer.

My daughter's 10 and doesn't play yet but I suspect that she will. We play Final Fantasy and stuff like that together and she and my younger daughter asked me to run "Adventures" for them which is what they call D&D. [:D] I told her it is very similar to the Final Fantasy Tactics game she plays on her Gameboy and she likes the figures so I suspect she'll ask to play soon. I'm going to Gen Con for the first time this year and she's pestering me about coming so I may take her next year.

Let's just play Alky DDM - Played with shot glasses and jiggers (medium and large creatures) with different drinks to designate different figures. You kill it - You drink it. Makes you think twice about killing those tequila shot Xeph warriors.

I'd mention my father son combo but my kid is too embarassed by my playing. (He just hit the 1700 mark for constructed! [:D])

Thanks for this thread now my kid wants me to actually take the DCI points seriously. I just like playing whatever strikes my mood, now I actually have to playing potentially winning combos?? So far he has dominated me at tournaments (I'm 2-10 against him) but he still can't take matches at home very often, guess I need a sanctioned tournament at the kitchen table.

Still he qualified for championships and I didn't.
And now he's over 100 points ahead of me in constructed (1775 vs. 1646)

I guess the boys DCI will increase, making the final match in a field of 36 in CA, then dropping and settling for second.
I wouldn't say he has "mad skills" but he does play reasonably well sometimes.

Just out curiosity have out any of you dad/kid teams have you dads ever thrown a game to the kid. I not not talking about in practice games or other non-reported games, I mean in a tournement. I see several reasons why you would (self-esteem/confidence, the younger set take the ranking a bit more serious, the kid has a chance of winning against others etc...) and I don't even judge the action. This is just a honest question, that I have overheard several people (most with a lot of chagrine) ask when a dad/kid set ends up matched and the kid wins. This must be stated again I am not trying to insinuate anything, make unseemly accusations or pee on your parade, most of you guys have kids who play a great game win alot and with out your assistance.

Declan has beaten me sometimes but he has earned it - I have not thrown any games his way. At one point, he beat me four times in a row (two sealed and and two constructed).

I've never thrown a game against Alex, nor have I conceded to him in a tournament.

I have once intended to concede if I were paired against him (I'd have given him the win in Niles, if I were paired against him when we were both 5-1, so that he'd get the invite, but this is somewhat dependent upon what happened to him earlier). But, he got paired against Brad instead--lucky kid. [)]

I've never thrown a game to award my son a win. He is still learning that hard work = success. He must earn his wins just like everyone else.
Its my belief that people (in general) learn better from their mistakes. So at home if me makes a mistake, he pays for it and then we discuss why it was a less than optimal choice.
But hay, he qualified and I did not. Go figure.

With my kid's rating the question should be whether he throws games to me!

I need to arrange a tournament at my kitchen table where I can beat him 4 out of 5 times instead of the 2-11 I have in sanctioned events. I think I'm 0 fer in SWM against him. And now my youngest is about to start playing regular.

I don't know what my record against my kid is. We have played many, many times. I lose against him more than I should, but not through any conscience act. I think that I simply do not give him the credit he deserves as an opponent, and it comes back to bite me. But I'm probably not alone. He's beaten several very good local players.

For the record, I could have conceded to him in the CA qualifier, and for reasons others have discussed above, chose not too. In Colorado, I had creamed him in a bad matchup (dragonnes vs his Soth Beholder). This was his chance for payback, if he could pull it off.
Brief synopsis:
He won map init, and i guess, in hindsight its not surprising that Gith monks beat an Archmage on their map (Shrine). He took the side with acid resistance nearby. He came at me hard, and fast but behind his sacred watchers. I GMA'ed to re-align from the west side of the tiamat statue to the east side, to get a spell off on something meaningful and to be able to collect tile points from my bunker. He opened the line of blockers, taking out Devis, then penetrated and hit my AM for 30, taking AoOs from everyone and his dog (I had graycloaks) along the way. I passed the stun and extracted, and probably made a mistake. I moved only 8, so that I cast a mordies sword on each monk. I figured if I could get out, that left him with 2 dead monks, and I could probably manage a third somewhere and squeak by on tiles. I took a second attack for 30 as the last monk penetrated, and failed my stun check. After that, it was good times in monkville, and the game rapidly deteriorated. The dying monks killed everything within reach while the master and other monk hunted. If I could have extracted, it might have been different, or got a conceal to work, but without a break, its pretty tough for the AM. I think Elliot felt that way in the semifinals, as well,vs Darien and he had his map. Its pretty damn hard when the enemy is singlemindedly pursuing your AM, and has incorporeal to boot on two figures.

There is also John E. Corbett (aka John the Elder)(1705) and his son John Corbett (1709) in constructed play in MN. That equals an average of 1707. Of course the son is an adult.
