So, here is the challenge. Considering the prevelance of things like Firebelchers, Efreeti, Azer Fighters and the like, there are a lot of things out there that can be hurt by a big blast of cold.

So as a spoiler to these types of bands, I think that Mordie deserves to be back in fashion as he is capable of delivering a 40 point cold blast while still being resistant (15) to fire.

Can you make a competative band with him that would be strong against the entire field at an event like the grinder next week?

Interesting options and ideas include:
- can be any faction. This can really open things up for a person.
- Orc Wardrummer can help his low commander rating if you go CE
- Mephling Pyro can grant him fly to facilitate the dropping of the cone if you play CG

Any ideas about building something competative around him??

A wand of silence means never having to say you're sorry.

My son was running this for a long time and doing well with it.

Mordenkainen
Efreeti x2
Chraal
Warrior Skeleton x4

I'd probably tweak it a bit for today's meta--but it would still have a chance against several bands.

I've used mordy a fair amound since GOL, and I have to say he is not strong at the moment. On tiles he was much better, but in the era of maps, Gith Monks, Sacred Watchers, Death Slaads and other fliers or fast creatures he sadly doesn't cut it. On the cold cone note, There isn't a big prevalence of fire creatures. Belchers may be quite big (Like the Chraal maybe I guess we'll hear when gencon hits and people stop keeping their secret stategies so quiet) but there aren't any others.. Efreetis remain niche use, and Azer fighters are fodder, and thus not worth the comparison.

I always found an empowered scorching ray to be of more value than an empowered cone. The cone is already quite big at 30 (15) and I always typically found more value in 25 auto fire.

I Was Thinking Using Mordy As Well. Possibly:

Mordenkainen The Mage
Chraal
Chraal
Chraal
Dark Moon Monk
Kobold Miner
Kobold Miner
Timber Wolf

If You Face Belchers, You Can Always Lead With Mordy With His Resist Fire, Then Drop The Bomb On Them. Morale Saves Definite Problem
Also Consider (Gasp) CG?:

Modenkainen The Mage
Clay Golem
Clay Golem
Devis
Xeph Warrior
Xeph Warrior
Xeph Warrior
Jozan / Elf Warrior

Counter Song To Hurt Couatl Bands. Make Them Burn ( Or Shock, Or Cold Etc. ) Double Golems To Block / Punish. Would Suck Vs Flying But Not The End Of The Game. Laughs At Duergar Champs.

Along The Same Line Of Thought You Could Also Use CE With The Golems And Use Wardrummer. Maybe...

Mordenkainen The Mage
Clay Golem
Orc Wardrummer
Insert Favorite 39 - 40 Point Hitter Here ( Red Samurai For Me )
Timber Wolf
Timber Wolf
Orc Warrior / Warrior Skeleton
Orc Warrior

Ohhhhhh So Much Fun Making Random Bands

So wait.. you'd considor leading with mordenkainen in this band? what madness aflicts ye? If he bites dirt, all 3 Chraals go popz. I wouldn't even dare run this band if I was playing super-turtle mode!

lol, i was thinking the same.

and the CG band is interesting, but building something around the ability to use countersong is risky when your countersinger go splat on one succesful hit.

heres something that may not be so original but might work

Mordenkainen
Young Master
Gith Monk x 2
Sun Soul Initiate
Timber Wolf
Man - at - Arms x 2

low on HP

i doubt Mordenkainen will ever be useful as long as Kord/Couatl/CoDA stay around and the fast moving Kord can move in a blow up Mordy before he gets two spells off.
