So I played a game a while back that has to be the shortest game ever.  I was playing one of my favorite bands consisting of:

Beholder
Dark Naga
Maug
Half-Illithid Lizardfolk
Ettercap x2

He was running a FGFP band and I can't recall the commander that he used.Â

I won map and we played on the Dungeon of Blood.  I really like this map for this band because of first turn LOS.  Anyway, he made a mistake or two in set up I feel, and I had LOS to the Forgepriest first turn.  I won initiative and the Beholder let go with an eye ray.  Fear, make a morale save.  He failed his MC and the FGFP ran off the board.  My next activation was another eye ray from the Beholder, and I rolled a 20.  The next fig I could see happened to be his commander, who failed the DC 19 save and got turned into dust from the Disintegrate.  He conceded after that.Â

Basically the game lasted less than one turn.  It was rather fun!

Any other stories about fast DDM games?

Technically that's two turns.

As to quick games, back in the days of 12 activations I had a red wizard/drider/mongrelfolk band I liked to play. Against someone playing dual frenzied beserkers I won first round init, transposed the red wizard with a mongrelfolk to get LoS to his start area and dropped an empowered fireball on his warband. Everything except the Frenzied Berserkers routed or died, and due to the out of command speed two rules he conceeded.

Yeah my bad, there isn't a term for each set of 2 activations is there? It's turn and round, and I get them mixed up all the time. Still amusing when your opponent never gets a chance to activate at all!

my shortest game was in the blood war prerelease finals. We set up on my map (dragon graveyard). I won init and found a line for a 1st turn ice storm with my ice devil. A really good chunk of his band was killed or routed (his strongest piece was a war hulk i think...i know he had at least one warmage). After that he conceded.

I heard of this one happening- I think it was the Angelfire prerelease or thereabouts.

Somebody running ogre mage got first turn LoS to his opponant's start area and cast sleep, and everything failed their save. Bada bing...

My fastest game would be a casual game against a friend of mine who I taught how to play, and even understood most aspects of the game better than me when it was all said and done. We used my minis, set up our warbands secretly and here's what we had:

Me:

Gnoll Sergeant x1
Zombie White Dragon x2
Small White Dragon x2
Winter Wolf x1
Taer x1
Timber Wolf x1
-------------------------------------
198 Points/8 Activations

Him:

Inspired Lieutenant x1
Chain Devil x3
Timber Wolf x4
--------------------------------
200 Points/8 Activations

I'm pretty sure we played on the Fields of Ruin map, but I can't be entirely sure. Anyway, he sets up to which I set up more conservatively/defensively/cowardly, whatever you want to call it, due to the obviously terrible match-up. He won initiative and started getting half of his Timber Wolf minis towards the closest VP area. I copied this via my SWDs. He moved his other wolves towards the other VP area. I copy again, via my two wolves. He moves his IL and CD towards the farther VP area. I move my zombies to my closest VP area. He then moves his remaining CDs towards the farther VP area again. I end the round by moving my Taer and gnoll behind the zombie dragons.

Skip several rounds because I can't remember any noteworthy material and the results for the next round are:

1) My wolves are gone, my zombies unscathed (weird, I know, 15 AC can't be hit? kinda funny, though), my gnoll can take only one more hit before routing and I have only one SWD left.

2) His wolves are all alive and well, save one which took a hit from my Taer and routed off the map. The IL has not used any PP or abilities, and only one CD is destroyed while only one other has sustained damage from a lucky hit with the now-dead SWD.

3) He has won initiative and makes a full attack against my gnoll, killing it. I now am seriously messed over for very much needed extra damage.

Things only progress worse and worse from there until I concede. Usually, the games I play take 20+ rounds while this one took about half that long.

There actually is a term in the game for one player's set of two activations.  It's called a "Phase".

Back in the days of tiles....

We played this them game called "weakest link", and the idea was to have 1 weak figure that had to be protected (I think we used Kenku sneaks). Lose that figure, lose the game. Anyway, I only rolled 2 d20 rolls before I lost. One was for tile placement, and the other was first round intitative.

I lost the intiative roll, and my opponent had put a mushroom tangle outside my entry tile, and placed Rikka there with the waylay ability. He simply flew over, based my weak link, and with 1 hit killed it. Game over.

Sometimes I like these theme games, sometimes I don't.

Shortest game was against Alepulp, I conceded after 2 rounds. I won't tell you why or how, but suffice it to say Fun warband vs Tourney warband.

That's why I don't really play tournies anymore; I can't seperate the two. If a warband isn't fun I don't take, thus I end up having my ass handed to me...a lot...at tournies.

Well I had a very short game just a couple of weeks ago. Some of us got together and had a 100 point tournament, where we each played four others. I was using Death Slaad, Thrall of Blackrazor, and some other small thing. On the third round I played against a goblin army consisting of 20 pt Snig, Greypeak Goblin Archers, and lots of other goblins. I won both selection of maps, and intiative on the first turn. I think we were playing on the Frostfell Rift, so I moved up the Death Slaad where I had a clear view to his entire army. Death Slaad decided to use chaos hammer, to kill most of the army, and the rest failed their morale saves and ran off the board. First activation win

I notice reading this thread that most of the wins listed here are short because people have conceded.  I've played a couple games where we don't even bother rolling first turn initiative when my opponent concedes.  This usually comes from me playing archmage on Grotto.

I think the fastest game I've ever played that actually went to 200 points was 2 rounds.  It was a fun match where I was playing Balor/Chimera/wardrummer on Teleport Temple vs. a mostly sneak attack band with Artemis.  I won my map and side despite the CR disadvantage.  First round, his speed 6 critters couldn't get to the nearest teleporter and were poorly positioned in a close group with only tile grabbers being elsewhere.  After winning the second round initiative, I moved the Balor in via the teleporter then followed up with the Chimera who used the roar to force morale saves.  With the -4, everyone except Artemis failed both saves.  With my newfound allies, I proceeded to pummel Artemis.  With tile points, that put me over 200.

I never concede.
You can always strech some learning from a defeat imo.

~

Fastest game I've had was using epic lord soth with beholder on hell spike vs gheale & strom archers. We finnished in under 2 minutes. forget how many phases, but I was able to nuke both his strom archers with ghale. All failed morale (so must of been hit already by something) and ran off the board. Nentyar Hunter got crisped too.

My shortest was a while back. I played Ghaele, 2x Storm Archer, Nentyar on the Grotto vs. a Solar Band. 1st round, inexplicably, he moves the Solar out after getting a GMW from the Artificer. He thought I didn't have line of sight, but miscalculated and his Solar died after I won initiative in the second round and scored a couple of free activations for the Storm Archers via good rolling. He never got to make an attack roll with the Solar and conceded.

A while ago, there was some discussion about the possibility of an insta-win with this band:
Elminster
Purple Dragon Knight
Githyanki Renegade
Filler

Elminster does a quick cast DD, drops a fear cone on the opposing warband, and everybody routs. Hasn't anybody tried that out and actually gotten it to work?

At a tournament a while ago I watched my buddy take on a virtuous charger, dual shadowdancer band. He was running a red wizard, redspawn arcaniss, and efreeti band. In the first round the VC band gave my buddy the initiative where he then was able to get off an empowered fireball and then another fireball from the RSA. Lets just say I never seen such a tournament worthy warband go down so fast.

I've seen it, too, and it can lead an opponent to concede, but I've never seen it eliminate an entire band in one shot.  Also, it works more often if you have a Beholder that first slides Soth into position for the blast, and that takes two turns.
