I enjoyed reading the background. It was well thought out. Good development. I take it the paladin in his group isn't an elf?

No such god as Pelor in Forgotten Realms. The closest equivalent would be Lathander, the god of the Sun, renewal and art.

FRealms can be a good setting, so long as the "Elves are better" principle and the YAFER* effect are kept out of the way, and the uber-NPCs that infest it like fleas are kept in the background. That, or in the crosshairs as villains. All hail Szass Tam!

*"Yet Another Frolicking Elf Race". I believe that at last count there's nearly a dozen flavours of Elf in Forgotten Realms.

Pretty good background there DF. One of the guys who occasionally run our games does the same thing awarding XP for backgrounds.

Welcome to the Realms DF! I like the background as Testament said you'd probably want to go with Lathander.

Only other suggestion I could think of is that from Calimshan to Daggerdale is a Huge amount of land to have crossed as a orphaned teenager and you might want to keep it to the Western Heartlands. But that's nothing of any real import.

Good story. No Pelor, Lathander it is for your cleric buddy. Assuming Hakk will follow a deity it'll probably be Ilmater given that he seems to enjoy getting his butt kicked [:D], or maybe Helm, who likes to dish out a bit of retribution.

Enjoy.

Your story seems to work alright. Just remember that while you were clearing unwanted trees in the Dalelands, there's a whole long history there of how the dales relate to the trees in terms of maintaining the forests and such. Although that's just an aside, what you wrote does work. Nice job, hope you enjoy your game.

Excellent!.. Thankyou guys.

I will let my Cleric friend know that Pelor is a no show and he should change to Lathander. (He plays in my Homebrew World, where all dieties are mixed one way or the other, and the FR DM hasn't pulled him up on the Pelror error as yet.)

I was unaware of the Dalelands - Trees thing, I will research that and make sure it fits in right.

The only reason I was 'travelled' so much as an Orphan is that the game I have entered is held in the Dalelands and I wanted to tie in a reason as to why I was in that region. I realise the amount of land covered during my characters childhood is quite extensive, but it was the only idea I could come up with. To explain how so much area was covered in only 16-18 years, Hmmmm.... that would be another bit of writing... hehe.

Hehehe... No the Paladin is not an Elf.

Hakk follows no diety. After his early life lessons, he does not believe that a 'god' would treat a mortal that way if he/she were to be a follower of that diety.

I figured, if I was to post it on my webpage, I should at least make sure the 'facts' made sense. I can't thank you guys enough for your help.

Again, thankyou all for your feedback. I will fix the Lathander part.

Thanks

DF

Paladin elves... for a while, I was in a game and every time I met a fighter, paladin, or barbarian elf, my character would take them aside and say, "Man, don't you know how to min/max?" I thought it was funny, but the DM got pissed [:D]

That wouldn't have flown very well in one of my games either. So much for roleplaying.

Well, a certain amount of levity at times can be refreshing, YMMV.

A good start DF. Now you must continue to write about Hakk's adventures (as he lives them of course). Character development is a must...

GAH! No God? In FRealms?

You may wish to reconsider that. If you have no God, then when you die, you're toast. Kelemvor will either leave you to wander the Fugue Plane for the next grillion eternities, or let the Baatezu grab you in one of their harvest runs. You can't be raised either. Ever.

I realise the 'not being able to be raised' part of having no deity. Pretty much, when Hakk dies, he dies. Let whoever or whatever do what they want with him. I am not one too ponder over the what-if's or but's of a character5s life/death. When Hakk goes by the by, a new character will be designed.

Good man. Dead is dead. Even in computer games I always play hardcore! Mind you I never play a reckless half-orc barbarian who hates paladins and elves. Wohoo!
If you get to double digit level you're a genius. LOL.

Just pointing it out. I prefer it when death means something, another reason for me to love Arcanis. There, if you die, you've got 24 hours before it gets near permanent.

I say near, because if you get two very powerful clerics, one of Neroth and one of Beltine, (the deities who preside over death) and then get someone to go to the Underworld to retrieve you, you can still come back. Hasn't happened since only they know when though, and the fate of the people who fail to make it to the Underworld as the retriever is not something sane people think about.

Well, if his character is impressive enough, he *might* be started off a little higher up the baatezu chain of command. That's probably the best thing to hope for is to bargain with them.
