That's a pretty funny idea.

Edit: The pun was only intended after I posted it and realized it was there. I always intend puns, whether or not I am aware that they exist [:D]

Heh, this reminds me of the 1st ed version of cantrips which were individual spells... err... much like they are in 3.5!

Hmm...

Anyway, they had all sorts of neat ones in a Dragon magazine once. My favourites were 'Hide' which made you invisible, but from only one angle of a cube; 'Firefinger' which had a foot long jet of flame burst from your fingertip for a second and had the verbal component of 'zippo'; and 'Unhairy' which was a wizard's way of shaving :D

Bite me.

Reminds me of some of the 1/2 level spells that anyone could cast that they put in the Dragon magazine so many years ago. (Yeah, it was an April edition.) One was like Summon Monster 1/2 (doing this from memory, so forgive me if it is not perfect), which only had the verbal component which was something like "Gee, what should I do with these 5,000 gold pieces I have. Perhaps I should go buy a long sword to replace the one I left at home."

Faerie Fire should do the trick of illuminating your hidden ninja.

Faerie Fire
Evocation [Light]
Level: Drd 1
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Area: Creatures and objects within a 5-ft.-radius burst
Duration: 1 min./level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes
A pale glow surrounds and outlines the subjects. Outlined subjects shed light as candles. Outlined creatures do not benefit from the concealment normally provided by darkness (though a 2nd-level or higher magical darkness effect functions normally), blur, displacement, invisibility, or similar effects. The light is too dim to have any special effect on undead or dark-dwelling creatures vulnerable to light. The faerie fire can be blue, green, or violet, according to your choice at the time of casting. The faerie fire does not cause any harm to the objects or creatures thus outlined.

Cut down the range to Close, the Duration to 1 rnd/level, the target to one creature, and i think it could work as your cantrip.

As Jai pointed out, Faerie Fire already does this. It's as good as a core spell and at a lower level, I wouldn't allow it.

Because you're getting almost all of the benefit, with very few drawbacks. You get to point out hidden stuff for the duration of combat, but the only drawback is you have to see exactly where the monster is, instead of just knowing exactly which square it's in. Very subtle penalty, not worth -1 level.

Not to mention that you're giving one of the better druid-only spells to an entirely new group of casters.
