I'm just starting out with getting my home game RPGA reported as well.

When you schedule the "event" that represents your home game, the RPGA will send you a packet of membership applications/cards. I think the recommended time is 3 weeks in advance of the "event".

In order to get credit for the home games, you need to schedule "events", and then go back to the RPGA website to "report" afterwards. You'll need your RPGA number to set up the events, so you will need to wait for your card to arrive before you can schedule your first "event".

I had asked about getting more credit for home game sessions that are multiples of 4 hours on another thread, but I never got an answer from anyone last time.

quote:

If you play for a longer amount of time, say 8 or 12 hours at a time, can you set up one "event" with multiple "sessions", or do you need to set up multiple "events" with one "session" each to get more than one point of rewards credit?

I'm asking because I've seen people set up multiple "events" on the same day in the home campaign section with descriptions like morning/afternoon/night, and if you set up a single "event" with multiple "sessions" you can only select the home campaign "module" once.

Anyone know?

I passed the herald test about oh say a month ago.
Just yesterday they sent me a small book of RPGA membership cards if I want to sign anyone else up. Pretty sure they will be sending these to you too. Not sure when though. Could be awhile.

Well, let's see here to answer a few of your questions:

Mark of Heros (MoH) campaign - This is a living campaign. You can find the character creationg rules here (http://wizards.com/rpga/downloads/DnD_Camp_MoH_CS.zip). Once you create your character you need to register it online under your RPGA account (www.rpga.com). You can just play for fun and not worry about registering it if you like.....As for the module being 5th level, with this living campaign they are doing all the character tracking online. Due to this there are times when there is a "level bump". All characters that fall below this level are bumped up to that level. I believe at Gencon, all characters will get bumped up to 3rd if they are not. So, basically to sum up (and hopefully unconfuse you a bit)...you can create a character using the above rules and make him 3rd level to play at GenCon. If you check on the site (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebop/welcome) It would tell you when the level bump happens.

Home Play: Like was mentioned, all your players would need to be RPGA registered. Once you sign up for your first home play event, I think you are sent the RPGA cards. If not, PM me and I could probably send you some. Your first one it is a good idea to schedule about 3 weeks out so that way you can be sure everyone is signed up, etc. After that, you only have to schedule at least 5 days out. You can schedule home campaigns (my regular RtToEE gets credit every week) and you could also get credit for playing in the Dungeon adventures. You would order these just like any other module you would order on the system.

If there are any other questions, drop me a PM and I could help out more :)

Underdark = 34/60

Thanks for the responses so far, seems like a straight forward approach to take care of the home game...

I'm still confused about what happens at GenCon:

When I think of "living" campaign's, I think of LG or Living City... Mark of Hero's is living as well? But you don't have to start at level 1... Hmmm...

Gator: you say that characters will get a bump to level 3 for GenCon, but look at this decription:

quote:
XMH-2 Fallen of Sharn (main event area)
Fallen is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the City of Towers. A patron's sister is among the twisted squalor of shattered glass and souls; can the heroes find her before it is too late? For levels 4-6

Level 3?! I'm going to get wasted!

Can anyone explain the difference in the follow designators:

XMH

EMH

DMH

MoH

Which ones come in the retail kit? What is the difference in the designators?

The modules should be tiered, so that characters from 3rd, 4th, 5th, and possibly 6th could play them. I'm sure if you went and tried to find some others at your level you would be fine. Usually the combats are TOO overly tough that it would wipe out the whole party...

As for the designators....I can't look them up from work right now, but I know the ones in the retail kit are EMH. I will look into it later tonight and post as to which are which.

DDM - Harbinger = 77/80 Dragoneye = 60/60 Archfiends = 60/60 Giants of Legend = 72/72 Aberrations = 59/60 Deathknell = 59/60 Angelfire = 60/60

I appreciate all the feedback so far... I'm starting to get a feel for things.

So, I'm signed for for an XMH module at GenCon. I signed up for it, because it was one of the "main events", and I know they are a bit more exciting with 3d dungeons, and more miniatures etc.

That said, we picked this type of event because of the implication that we did not need to have a character premade.

But I'm still confused. Do I need to bring a Fast Play Character from the WotC site with me? All the Fast Play characters currently available are 1st level. I level him up on my own to be 5th level?

Is there functionally any differece between the EMH and XMH events? What is a DMH Event? Are the EMH adventures those that are included with the monthly retailer kits?

Thanks!

Pat E

The EMH modules are the "normal" Mark of Heroes mods and are found in the monthly retail kits.

The XMH modules are "Specials" run only at Winter Fantasy, GenCon and GenCon SoCal. Mark of Heroes started at this years Winter Fantasy so there is not a large sample to go on, but I tought that the XMH mod was significantly more challenging than the two EMH mods that were run. Also as this is a special mod the RPGA supports it with color maps, 3D models and minis.

The DMH mods are DM's Mark modules. Once per month a DM can create his/her own Eberron adventure and run it as part of the Mark of Heroes campaign. I believe when the DM schedules his event the RPGA sends some type of specific plot device that the DM must put in the adventure but otherwis it is a homemade module.

Unlike the livng campaigns the MoH and LotGR campaigns are designed so that you can pretty much jump in at any time. As a result once or twice a year there is a level bump. By the time you go to GenCon there should be one and that will be reflected in the Fast Start Characters at the time the bump goes into effect. If you decide to create your own character rather than use a Fast Start it would also start at the "bumped" level. Based on how LotGR went the first level bump will be to 3rd level, but to my knowledge nothing has been published in regards to this as of now.

Finally the difference between MoH and LotGR vs. the "Living" campaigns is that it will have an end. I believe they are designed to run 3-5 years.

Jim

We are all agreed that your theory is crazy. The question which divides us is whether it is crazy enough to have a chance of being correct. My own feeling is that it is not crazy enough.

Ah!

Thanks Jim... this is starting to come into focus.

Your guess is a bump to level 3, even though the adventure is for characters level 4-6? My friend and I are both going to have brand new characters... Are we going to cripple the party!?

I'll keep my fingers crossed that the bump is to 4th...

This is pretty darn neat. I've wondered what it would be like to get into the RPGA way of things now-a-days. I was a member back in the day when they were sending out stapled black and white modules as their magazine. :)

Is it fairly easy to get going on this, Pat?

I wouldn't say you would cripple a party as you would more than likely get paired up with others that are 3rd and 4th level. I'm not going to say that you wouldn't get in on a high level table, but all best efforts are made so that like levels get put together on the same table.

Well... I think it is.

I'm DM of a 3.0 group, but we move VERY slowly... I'm looking a play a bit, and wanted to do something other than DDM at GenCon with a friend of mine.

This was the direction we decided to go. I figured a side benefit might be getting reward points, and the repainted figures as well!

To sign up for the RPGA, you can either go to an event, or find an RPGA DM who has membership cards.

The other option is to take the Herald Level DM test. It took me about 25 tries to pass without my books. Not bad since there are some pretty specific questions, and don't currently (going to have to change though!) own any 3.5 books!

Once your a Herald Level DM, you can order the mod's from WotC, or DM them from the retailer campaign kits...

I've never touched Ebberron, but I'm looking forward to this event!
