| Unearthed Arcana has Ranger as a Prestige Class.
Complete Warrior has a non-spellcasting Ranger Variant.
Complete Adventurer has the Scout class, which is a wilderness Rogue.
Book of Hallowed Might has a variant Ranger class. It can be found as a free download at Monte Cooks homepage if you dig around a bit. | |

| | Horizon Walker PrC in the DMG sounded kinda weak the first time I looked over it, but much later I looked at it again, and I now think it's kinda cool. It's definitely aimed at characters that started as Rangers. | |

| Would have to suggest the variants in the unearthed arcana like the planar ranger. As far as prestige classes... take a look at what is in the book of exhalted deeds.
One more thing... if you can find a 7th level cleric who is friendly towards you, restoration would cost you 380 GP and would give you back your lost level.

| | Unfortuately we were a few hundred shy of 3rd level. Level drain takes you down to the beginning of the level previous to the one you are in. I had to go from almost 3rd to the beginning of 1st. Restoration brought me to the beginning of 2nd. It couldn't do anything about the xp's I lost in 2nd level. Our dm put 3 characters against 4 wights. One of us was a totally ******* worthless enchantress played by a totally ******* worthless player, a fighter and my ranger. We all have pretty moderate ac's, and I got hit a couple of times and failed my initial save and my next day save. Oh, well, life (fantasy or otherwise) goes on. | |

| | Tough fight for a small low level party. We just went through a major fight that was supposed to be a cameo apperance for an upcoming big bad. We are a 7 person group of 8th and 9th level. We went against a challenge rating 11 half troll dwarf fighter, a dozen deurgar 3rd level fighters, a mind flayer and the cameo... a ninth level sorcerer mind flayer( challenge rating 17). We took some pretty hard hits but our wizard did a great job of circumventing the Uber Flayer's 35 spell resistance using Evard's Black Tentacles. That prevented him from casting any spells and he needed to make some pretty impresive concentration checks to use his psionics. It showed the advantage of a group that has been working together for a long time. | |

That's one of the fascinating challenges of being a wizard--having just the right spell memorized for an unknown situation and then seeing the opportunity and taking it. Congrats to the wizard (player). | |

| | Well, it doesn't matter anymore, my DM killed me tonight. I got separated me from the party with a web, then while the druid, rouge and champion of correlan were tangling with two large spiders, I was backed up against the web by two drow fighters and a cleric with a snake whip. Made all my fortitude saves, but without a lot of hit points, I was down to 0 HP by round 3. Priestess slit my throat and cast deathknell(failed my fortitude save with 13), and yes, I know that is two actions in the same round. Soooooo, resurrection would drop me down a level and I'm not into this all elf story anyway, so I won't be playing till they go back to the high level campaign we were playing. Don't have a lot of spare time, and I'd rather do other things till they go back to a campaign I enjoy. Thanks for everyone's input. | |
