Vindicated Night Below Champion of the Digestor!!! Knight of the Oozes
Icons called shot: Angry Mob
The stink of rotten meat surrounds this multilegged creature with a segmented, 10-foot long body. Eight writhing tentacles protrude from its head, growing directly from below its clacking mandibles and tooth-filled maw.

After looking over the table of contents, I'm going to have to rescind my prior interest in this product. I don't think this one will be for me...

Maybe, if I didn't have bills, etc. to pay, I could justify it. Or for grins and giggles, but probably not. "Jester" as a class? I never saw the appeal of that one--in any edition of D&D. I know it's not what they do, but I keep picturing a chubby guy in dirty harlequin pants with a painted face trying to make a Ancient Red Dragon actually DIE laughing.

And Osteomancer? "Osteo" deals with bones, right? So what would be the difference between an Osteomancer and a Necromancer? "Damn it Jim, I'm an Osteomancer, not a Necromancer!"

And a whole section on Chromatic Dragons? Why? Between the MM and the Draconomicon there should be plenty of ways to FUBAR an adventurer without resorting to Dragon Magazine to beef them up further. Besides, IMO, by the time the party is regularly dealing with dragons, the DM should have some ideas of his/her own on how to beef them up without having to resort to Dragon Magazine.

At least I remembered to take my "Grumpy" pill this morning.

I think the chromatic dragon info is the twenty level class progressions for players to play as a dragon. Remember, this is Dragon magazine, not Dungeon. Everything in it is supposed to be useable by players AND DMs.

He has control over bones. As his level increases, he learns to hold a person's skeleton (useful on spell casters to hold their jaw closed), move them like a puppet, make your bones protrude out of your skin as weapons or armor, a fear effect, and at level ten you can liquify an opponent's skeleton.

I can think of no other way to describe that other than "peculiar" or maybe "bwuh-huh?".Ζ]

And some things should NEVER be PC's. Dragons are HIGH on that list.

That's why I love it! The Flux Adept is another great class from the Dragon Compendium. They control the body's organs, glands, fluids....So cool!

I never understood why people wanted a 20th level PC class for the dragons....I would never allow them into a game unless all the players were dragons.

We'll just have to agree to disagree there. And, that's quite okay! I know I'm usually out on the fringe when it comes to my obsession to dragons, but that's what makes us all unique gamers. There have to be the dragon supporters to counterbalance the giant supporters. [)]

In the long run, I think it really boils down to who plays the role. It's defintely not one that can be quite as easily power-gamed into devastating damage in three rounds within 10 levels or so. They are great for Role playing, however; and, can be quite fun.

I can understand certain amounts of incredulous looks and the like -- I'm a gamer and have become immune to such things. You game your way and I'll game mine.

Between the Dragon archive cd and my collection of actual paper mags, I don't need this compendium.

WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :(
I fought the snark and the snark won. I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

And what the heck are they supposed to fight? 30th level villagers?

If a player in my group requested to play a dragon PC, I would deny his request and restrict him to the 1st edition AD&D gnome. You want a unique roleplay challenge you say? Go speak with burrowing mammals. Same thing for psionics. What? You want me to adjudge an entirely superfluous magic system just so that you can be a medieval jedi? Use the force Grok!

Featherfall??! Who needs featherfaaaalll. .

Hello,

I recall reading a leak/hint on the compendium that said the Chromatic Dragon secton was on the "forgotten" chromatic dragons. That would be Yellow, Purple, etc. All converted to 3.5E stats.

Cheers [:)]
