| WotC is quite obviously clueless about the secondary market value of their out-of-production minis.

Heh... I was going to say that it looks like the Derro will be a common, but 4 wraiths? 6-8 Barghest? Maybe we can hope for a new Wraith in War Drums, but I doubt we're getting both a new Wraith and a new Barghest in the same set.

| Derro? Is this supposed to be Duergar?
Wow that's a lot of minis. I'm a serious hoarder of cool rares and I can barely meet those requirements. I imagine your average DDM collector is really lucky to have doubles some of those minis (wraith, barghest, etc.).
I'd love a Wraith resculpt. Not so much on the Barghest though. We have plenty of canine shaped minis and the alternate goblin form can be easily proxied with the nice diversity of goblins we currently have. | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

| Sounds pretty absurd to me. Any module that says you need to have 15 rares is not something I would ever buy. Unless they come out with a new Wraith and new Barghest that are uncommon there's probably no one that could play all the minis.

| They're not going to write a module based solely on the availability of minis. They're gonna write the story based on what is cool.

| Unless we are getting new wraiths and barghests on wardrums I don't see how many of the average collector can come up with that. [eyes] I hope it is a sign of things to come but I doubt it...I thought I read hellspike was supposed to come out along angelfire and fane with underdark.

| | If I recall correctly the adventure text refers to both the wraith and barghests as harbinger minis while the Derro is listed as wardrums therefore I seriously doubt we will be getting new barghests or wraiths in wardrums. | | Champion of Cyclops

Excellent. How did I miss this? That's great though.
It sounds like another mini that was slated for Underdark but got bumped to the next set.

| As someone destined to never even be able to afford 1 Wraith or Barghest, I gotta say "Thbbbbbt!" to WOTC. If I'm ever lucky enough to own one, I don't want to be taunted by them for having an inadequate collection of rares.

You also need a beholder, 8 derro, and quite a few vargouiles. So yeah sounds like he was right. My one gaming buddy and I both collect minis and between the two of us we we might have enough chaindevils, vargouiles, and lemures. Some of just too hard to get.
The tactics of the three chain devils is to draw you to the 4th in the adjacent chamber, so yes it's probable you'll need 4 at one time.

| Hey guys,
Yes, there are a bunch of minis referenced in the adventure that might be hard to get in numbers if you don't already have them. The Barghests are easy to substitute with wolves for the time being.
The Wriath is specifically called out as a mini to use a proxy for, as the text says to use the Cursed Spirit if you do not have Harbinger Wraiths.

Of course its okay. The rest of us won't laugh at your piddly 7 complete sets. Its somewhat respectable to only have 7 Umber Hulks and Drow Clerics of Lolth ... | Heck I only have two human commoners! Well if I combined my Flamebrother Salamanders with my regular Salamanders I may have enough! Forget multiples of any of the other rares though I suppose I could proxy the Dwarven Ancestor for my second Stone Golem.

| That is a bit crazy. We are short on the Wraiths and the Barghasts. We didn't start collecting untill Deathknell came out. We could still get Dragoneye, Archfiends, Aberations and Giants at retail prices, but Harbinger were expensive even then.
Someone at WoTC must be on Crack to think this is a feasable adventure form alot of people.

| If you don't have enough Lemures, use Hershey Kisses. They look surpirsingly similar and have the added benefit of being yummy.
When you kill a Lemure, eat the chocolate...It's too bad they can't summon reinforcements.
But, since we're bragging about our ability to represent the monsters: I'm short on 5 Barghests, 3 Salamders, 3 Wraiths, 1 Barbed Devil and a handful of Lemures. Chain Devils have actually been pretty easy for me to come by, and I can run 1/1 for the Earth Elementals--I could also just pick HAR or UND and go that way, but I like being able to tell things apart easily. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| | I don't see this as a problem. I'm happy they are including suggested miniatures in these now. I don't think its fair to complain that you don't have all the minis needed (and I am sure there are a very small number who do, if any) when they're trying to give us a little heades up as help. | If a published adventure has suggested minis to use for the encounters thats fine.
I love that they did it for Sons of Gruumsh.
But Fantastic Locations is very much geared toward DDM...so the adventures will probably ALL have monsters that have a mini.
I'm willing to bet the farm we wont see a fantastic Locations adventure that has Mariliths, Belkers or Stirges in them.

| Hmm I wish I had them all...yes its recommended but not needed but i use only the right mini and have even done this before DDM was created. From the reaper D&D line years before so lets see... 7 Human Commoners = even to be replaced 12 Lemures = off by 4 16 Derro = got metal ones but off by 11!! 1 Imp = ok 8 Vargouilles = ok 2 Large Earth Elementals = ok 1 Roper = ok 1 Beholder = ok 1 Erinyes = ok 2 Stone Golems = ok 3 Barbed Devils = off by 1 4 Chain Devils = off by 2 4 Wraiths = yikes off by 3 but have easy replacements 6 Salamanders = got it counting flamebrothers with dragoneye ones. 7 Barghests = yikes off by 6 ...might be tough to find a replacement.

| So what would good proxies be? Here is my list
7 Human Commoners= Sages, Dalelands Militia, Human Bandits/Thugs etc. 12 Lemures= While I like the Hershey Kisses idea I'm going to have to go with Giant Frogs 16 Derro: That's a heck of a lot of just one mini, I'd have to use proxies even if it had been relesed already so hows about Chitines, Chokers, Dolgrims, Halflings and gnomes. I think the Choker matches up best, but your mileage may vary. 1 Imp=1 Quasit 8 Vargouille= Small Dragons, Imps and Quasits 2 Large Earth Elementals= Actually with an Uncommon Earth Elemental in the last set you shouldn't need to proxy this one but if you did... Stone Golems, any large Humanoid with Dark skin tones 1 Roper= I got nothin' 1 Beholder=Gauth, one of those little round make-up things with the mirror in it 1 Erines= Proctector, Rika, Justice Archon, gargoyle, Harpy 2 Stone Golems= Clay Golems, Large Earth Elementals 3 Barbed Devils= Bladling Fighters, spiker Champion 4 Chain Devils= Rask, Drow Arcane Guard 4 Wraiths= Cursed Spirit, Spectre, DireGaurd, Astral Constructs painted black (which are remakably handy things to have) 6 Salamanders= Flame brother Salamanders, Medium Fire Elementals 7 Barghests= Wolves, Timber wolves, Goblins of various flavors
Anybody else have suggestions? I really can't think of what you could use for the Roper but I'm sure somebody out there has an idea. | | Currently pending trades: Vrecknidj* What you need to know about trading with me.
