| If you want to give your players more options, go with the Races gift set.
If you want a larger collection of monsters to throw at your players then Monster Manual 3 is what you should buy.
If you or your players like fighting, interacting with Dragons, buy Draconomicon. There's enough dragons and dragon-like things to keep you busy until 4th Edition comes out!

| Weapons of Legacy has some really interesting ideas on 'special' magic items, but I feel if I ever use them I might change a bit, but it is a pretty good book.
MM2 & 3 are must gets both have some great monsters, but 3 does seem to be the better of the two and if you get MM2 then you have to go through the hassle of d/l'ing the errata for 3.5.
Races books are ok...I have the Stone and Wild books some interesting ideas some good feats but nothing I would consider must have. The Destiny book held even less of interest for me other than a couple of feats that I thought were great for humans, such as Able Learner.
Draconomicon is just a great book, so much wonderful dragon goodness for everyone! Of course if you don't have any dragon encounters, it then becomes pretty limited.
Order of Preference: MM3 MM2 Draconomicon Then either WoL or the Races gift package. | | "I was sittin' here eatin' my muffin, drinkin' my coffee, replayin' the incident in my head, when I had what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity." - Jules Winnfield Sales/Trades Bad (1): Ironfist Boulderbender Trades/Sales completed (8.): Danthl, Dafrca, Garyaxe, qillan_dvra, realmaster, Vandal_Savage, cavedweller, unearthed arcana. | | As a fair warning, you'd probably have to spend as much time incorporating errata into MM3 as you would converting MM2 to 3.5E. | | Hypethetical Blood War Set List | Champion of the Gelugon | Vindicated Prophet of Blood War Ha 69/80 | De 60/60 | Ar 57/60 | GoL 72/72 | Ab 60/60 | DK 60/60 | AF 60/60 | UD 59/60 | WD 57/60 | WDQ 3/60| BW Total DDM Count: 1037 | No chance of finishing the set | Will finish the set | Set

| For me, it would be the Draconomicon. Dragony goodness wrapped up in Lockwood art!
However, you'd probably want MM III.
Not all of the Race books are worth their money. The first, Races of Destiny--I think it was--was just plain badly executed. Total waste of money for what was offered in the book.
Weapons of Legacy is really about making items (weapons) even more powerful. Not really tops on my list. | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

I disagree. I would love to see a Draconomicon II with the Gem, Epic, and other dragons added in it. Even a chapter to help/flesh out half-dragons would be useful. | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| | Either of the Monster Manuals, 'cuz more monsters are always fun, or one of the prestige Monster Books. I highly recommend Libris Mortis or Lords of Madness as being very good. | | Support awesome games: Play Hecatomb!

Because it's important to know that a Dracataur has a +6 to balance not a +5.
I d/l the 'errata' wotc put out for the MMIII - I wish i could say any of it was worth noting.
MMIII would be a good choice but I, personally, would lean towards Lords of Madness or Libris Mortis mainly because I love making the 'ordinary' much more dangerous. | | Completed Trades: Crescent Hawk, Vimes, demagogue, vidman, Eric is God, Strachan Fireblade, FungiMuncher, Dudeeehm, Shasack, gausse, kyrin, nyjastul69 Champion of the Remorhaz

| I think it just depends on what you and your players want.
Alot of great suggestions have been made. Here's another odd ball one, you might try a campaign book. Eberron or the Forgotten Realms book give you a lot of stuff to work with, from new races, classes, and Prc's. Something for DM's and Players. Or you might try one of the environment books as well.
Of what's been mentioned, the races of books are great, and you can never go wrong with more monsters, so MM3 is good too. One of my current favorites though is heroes of horror. Good Book | | I need a newcastle...

I play DnD with my friends, and am wondering what book I should pick up next. My players like cool magic items and interesting foes or prestige classes.
To fit that need, try something like Magic of Faerun (I know it's only 3.0 but it has a nice variety of magic items and as well as prestige classes and a monster or two). I'm assuming Magic of Eberron will be reasonably similar. The other books listed I think do a great job of one of the aspects you're looking for, but generally ignore the others.

I got Magic of Eberron, and while I love it, it has a lot less of a generic feel than Magic of Faerun. So, if you don't play in either setting, you might get a lot more out of Faerun. | | Champion of the Beholder and Beholderkin

| If you mostly DM, the MM3, Liberis Mortis (sp?), the aberrations book and the Draconomicon are the best of the monster books in no particular order of preference. MM2 is ok but I'd rate it below the others.
Races of the Wild is the best of the races book. Most of my friends think Races of Destiney is horrible. If I were you I'd skip the boxed set and get Races of the Wild and/or Races of Stone depending on what races play a key role in your campaign. As a player Races of the Wild is good for me since I like elves a lot.
