ANyone found a really top notch DM Screen? I don't have patience or inclination to make my own and am really looking for a commercially available screen. Ideally it should have combat maneuver rules on it along with skill check tables, object damage/hardness rules etc. Must be compatible with 3.5 D&D and be setting generic (or at least easily usable in any setting).

Or at least use it as the basis for most of the screen and attach any special sheets of data/info you need. In our game we generally don't need one since the DM has some under table top tables to set his stuff on and roll dice. I used to use some in the past, but more as shields than an information resource. Room of gaming veteran geeks who could all probably have written their own screens from memory if forced to so the info was pretty redundant.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

Kenzer and Company made a DM screen called the "DM's Game Shield".

Its rediculus. Its the DM screen for Kingdoms of Kalamar so it has lists of Gods and a Map of the continent and other campaign spacific stuff.

But it has flaps and panels in it and its nuts...My current campaign is a Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign and I still use the WotC 3.5 DM screen.

Does the WotC screen have the grapple, trip, disarm, sunder, bull rush etc rules on it? I haven't seen the WotC screen so I don't know what's wrong with it [)]

I have seen the Kalamar screen and it is simply too much. both in terms of detail and price (brevity is esential in any screen).

The KoK screen is gianormous. I use it even when I'm not DMing KoK. It's got just about every table you need. Here's a link for the curious.

The WotC 3.5 screen in nice because its a bit shorter than a normal screen. I have a problem seeing over normal ones at our table due to low to the ground chairs.

I have always wanted to make a custom one, but haven't yet.

Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested!

Funny. After taking their web tour I am more convinced than ever that the KoK screen is not for me. [:)]

I think I'll try to get a look at the 3.5 WotC screen.

The WOTC screen has all the tables on it, 4 pages more tables than you really need but its nice having them all in one place right in front of you (to bad I don't DM with a screen normaly as it is usefull) the most usefull table is the actions table that tells you what provokes an AOO.

Going through that web tour, I almost expected that DM screen to have a beer cooler and a pretzel bowl built into it [:D]

The screen looks pretty cool in theory, but something that might just not be very practical when you are playing. But maybe it's worth a shot.

How is this Kalamar setting anyway?
I've heard of it, but never played it. Does it need a lot of extra work (for DMs)? Is it easy to combine it with other material (f.i. your own)? How are the prefab adventures?

Link I run to kalamr campaigns The prefabs are great and easy to run.I have to agree on DM screen though. While full of info is bulky and the flaps get in the way alot.

It's a good setting with strong support products. It's a standard magic level setting and you shouldn't have any trouble adapting something to it. The prefab modules are easy to run and very user friendly. They come with things like indices, player handouts, and visual aids.

I use paper clips to stay on the pages I use the most. One of the best features are the round counters that line the edge. I also like that you can use wet erase markers on them, very, very handy. The random name generators also see a lot of use in my game. Out of curiosity, what region does your game take place in? Mine takes place in Reanaarian Bay.

Our group uses the WOTC screen. Unlike many groups, I suspect, we don't actually have the screen "up" when playing. Our group does a pretty good job of not watching the DM damage dice rolls. Back on point, we put the screen underneath the plexiglass on top of the table so it can be seen and protected from spills at the same time.

The man who thinks he can, and the man who thinks he can't are both right. Which one are you?

Citizen Games makes (or made) a landscape-oriented customizable screen; basically, three panels of thick hinged vinyl with clear plastic sleeves on both sides of each panel. Combined with six sheets of reference material -- three for players, three for DMs, either homemade or grabbed from the web -- it makes a fantastic screen.

In theory.

I bought their original version, portrait-oriented, and the vinyl hinges broke with very little use. Citizen Games never bothered to respond to my several notes of inquiry, much less replace the product. I'm waiting until I can personally examine the new landscape screen, to see if the hinges are better, before I try to order one.

It is *real* easy to make your own screen using the SRD, some cardboard, a photocopier and your D&D books. I suggest going through the effort to do this for yourself. It will allow you to summarize rules in a way that makes sense to you and allows you to exclude things that have no real relevance in your games.

It probably won't be as pretty as a professional model, but do you want beauty, or efficiency?

My newest DM screen is 4 'pages' long, with 3 sections of tables and rule summaries/flowcharts, and a 4th 'page' set up so that I can clip on a single sheet of special rules that I may need to reference during a particular session. Unfortunately, my play table is too small to make good use of it ...
