| I'm just trying to determine if I would still be satisfied with the v3.0 of both DnD PHB and DMG. I know they have both been upgraded to v3.5 already and was just wondering how big a difference there is between the two. The other players in my groug have the 3.5 versions and I'm just wondering if it would cause me any problems while I'm campaigning with them if I settled for the 3.0 books.
If someone could site a few examples for me of some of the upgrades that were made so that I can judge for myself how much it will affect, it would be most appreciated.
Thanks

| | I would not get the 3.0 versions. Your DM group would not be happy[:(!] | | | |

Well Norm, most guys seem to be willing to unload their 3.0 versions for about the cost of a regular rare. And most of the guys in our group have got the 3.5 versions anyways so they can give me the heads up when need be. I think I'll be okay with it at that price. | | John

| The changes are significant enough that I find the 3.0 books are really pretty useless as reference guides. That's the reason people are willing to give them up so cheaply.
EDIT: If you were a player in my group, I'd recommend you had no books at all rather than have the wrong ones. | | Anson on WotC boards

| As an alternative: If the guys around you already have the books, you may be able to get by with a downloaded version of the completely free SRD. I find that I use it more often than my books when we're not at the table. At the table, you can always borrow a book or use a wireless modem and a notebook computer to access the SRD.

I wouldn't even trade uncommons for a 3.0 book, One of the guys have the 3.0 books and bought new ones becouse the old ones are not even good enough for reference IMO.

Well, I've sometimes critisized my own friends for not listening to my advice before, so I guess I'd better listen to ya Norm, or I'd end up on the receiving end for a change, huh?
It does look like there are an aweful lot of changes that were made between the two books. | | John

| | If cost is a very real issue, then 3.0 is still very similar to 3.5. It's nothing like the jump between first to second, or second to third. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

You can even load it -- hyperlinks and all -- onto an SD card for use with a PDA. Most of the best SRD conversions have made subtle but significant improvements ... like applying Celestial or Fiendish templates to summonable monsters. | | Jeff "Wayne Laredo" Wilder | Email | Have/Want List | Trade Policies | Are You an Ethical Trader?
