| Dammit! I'm proud of my 2nd place finish! I must be recognized for my greatness!!!
Just kidding......I barely pulled it out of the bag. Once I saw that "Stormtrooper Steve" showed up, I knew he had it clinched. He's got to be the best player in Winnipeg, for sure......Kudos to him for kicking ass once again!
Oh yeah.......I had to take off my T-Shirt and wash it today......wife made me..........women just don't get it sometimes......

Don't forget, it's not too late for new people to join up. Bring a friend.

| Its looking like I will probably miss the 2nd session of the league tomorrow since WoW has cut into my chore doing time so now I have to clean my apartment, and get ready for my trip down south this weekend.
But at least it leaves me more time to get my team all painted up nice. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Hey Beer Baron can you see if any of your suppliers can source Kenzer & Company #4133 HackMaster: Hireling Pack 2?
If not I'll go to eBay and pick it up. Torchy should have his own painted mini.

| I'll see what I can do.
Further to Prizing:
I was working on how to revamp what I do for prizes. As already stated the retail kits cost about $13. Boosters cost $16. What I need some imput on is the value of the components. I think the fact that the retail kit contains 7 repaint, 12 epic cards, 3 templates, and 3 modules (25 peices) doesn't necessarily mean each peice is worth $.52.
So what would you say the value of each piece is worth? Epic Card Repainted figure Template Module
Also, if I use a booster to do a prize draft, what would the value of each single figure be worth? 1 Rare 3 Uncommons 4 Commons
This will vary on wheather or not you go by actual value of each piece, or just a value based on the share in the box total. I also sell single figures, and their individual price is worth more than their "shared" price. Assuming they are all medium figures, I sell commons for $1.50, Uncommons for $3.00, and rares (vary widely) at a default price of $15. That would make the total of all the singles in a pack $30. More than the value of the pack, but I am also taking the risk that I will (and have) got stuck with 5 Dromites or 5 Sandgiants. Some commons and uncommons sell out the day we open them (stirges and bat familiars) and some I can't give away (Spellstitched hobgoblin zombies).
So what would a common be worth? How about an Uncommon? What about a collector's edition uncommon repaint (aka retail kit figure)? They just can't be picked up anywhere. What would the value of an unknown rare be? What about those epic cards? Does anyone know what they sell for on ebay? Rough value here on the forums for trading?
I have been pouring over this and think I know what is fair, but I want some input.

Thanx, The Beer Baron Commons imo are typically worth 25-50 cents. The only ones I'd buy as singles are the evil ones (bugbears, goblins, orcs, etc). And even those are unlikely since I have so many of them.
Uncommons are worth a dollar or two, depending on their type. Monsters are the ones on the high side since multiples of them can be used in rpg and you typically won't get all that many. 1-2 per case. Some skirmish useful uncommons (duergar champs and shadowdancers spring to mind) will also get to the $2 mark. Things like the Cleric of Dol Arrah or Dragonmarked Heir of Deneith will be on the lower end. They're skirmish useful, but you're unlikely to use more than one in a warband and you're certainly not gonna need multiples for RPG use.
Rares average around 10-12 dollars. Things like the large black dragon will be closer to the 20 dollar mark, while things like the dromite wilder are $5. Or so.
If you take 4 commons @ 50 cents, 3 uncommons at $1.50 and a 10 dollar rare you'd end up with $16.50, or about the price of a booster.
I don't think a booster is worth twice as much as singles. Yes you end up with some rares that you can't sell (especially for 10 dollars) but you also end up with some like dragons and beholders and virtuous chargers that can fetch 15-20 dollars without a problem. In the end, it's the average value of the sale that's important. You're far better off selling that dromite or sand giant for $5 than you are having it sit in your case not doing anything. As long as you get a black dragon or something that you can sell for 15 or 20 dollars, you're still in the black. Or is it red? I think black is profit.
As to retailer kit stuff, the first epic card to me is worth maybe a couple dollars. I've certainly traded a couple uncommons for them, although I wouldn't pay $3 for an epic card. The problem comes with the second and third epic cards, espeically if it's useless crap like the wizard of turmish, especially if it's a rare useless crap. I'll have the mini, but someone else might not. Second and third epic cards are barely worth the cardstock they're printed unless they're useful (like the storm archer). The repaints are a bit better, but they don't add anything to play. I don't mind having a repainted figure, but it's no more useful to me than the standard version. Again I'd likely value the first repaint at about $3 or so. The templates and stuff are sorta meh in my opinion. nice to have, but I don't worry if I don't get them. They're also affected by the fact that they show up for several months at a time.
As to the distribution of entry fees, I started playing at Galaxy and there all the entry fees went to prizes. I would love for that to happen at Gameknight (who wouldn't, but whether that's feasable or not is up for debate). It does kinda strike me as double dipping though for half the entry fees to go to rent/paying someone to mind the store, and then also "selling" boosters as prizes at a profit.
NOTE: The next bit is what I'd like, and is likely a dream born of too many pixie sticks, but there's never harm is suggesting things. I'm also going to assume Scott buys his boosters for $10 from his supplier. That may or may not be accurate.
I would like prizes to work such that:
$6 entry fee.
4 people - 1 booster draft (value $10, scott makes $14 (58%)) 6 people - 2 booster draft (value $20, scott makes $16 (44%)) 8-10 people - 2 booster draft + retail kit (value $33 dollars, scott makes $15-27 (31-45%) 12 people - 3 booster draft + retail kit (value $43, scott makes $29 (40%))
Essentially I have prizes as one booster for every three people, which I was able to do the time I ran a tournament at galaxy (sadly only like 5 people showed up), and I replaced the 3 booster at 9 people with a retailer kit. With 8+ people showing up the retailer kit stuff can be better distributed with less ending up going in the prize bin as leftovers. I would also suggest going to 2 retailer kits a month, since I for one don't get much enjoyment out of multiple epic wizard of turmish cards.

| For myself I like getting the stuff from the retailers kits, or at least the reapints and epic cards. They are one of the reasons I come out. Knowing ahead of time that a kit won't be opened makes it less likely I will show up to a tournament. Of course what is in that particular kit month to month changes the desire for said items.
As for a booster draft those are fine, most of the time it's just stuff I'll end up passing on since I have enough of it already. I tend to agree with Richard more or less on his values for the components of a booster.
With something like this I don't think it's a situation where you can make everyone happy. Some people will want the boosters, others the kits. Some people don't care about prizes, they're just happy to have some places to play. For others the prizes are a big factor in them comming out to tournaments.
I think you should go with whatever formula mkaes the must sense for your business. I do think consistancy is important here but I'm sure once you set down your guidelines I am certain most people will be able to accept them.
And for the record I am okay with how prizes are handled now, I don't see a drastic need for change.

| Turning back the clock a little to when I first started comming out to tournaments $5 seemed like a lot for me to play. I didn't have much of a collection, pretty much went 0-3 losing ugly most of the games.
The prizes weren't as good back then, if you lost a lot you didn't come away with much of anything. As a result I didn't come out a lot, maybe once a month.
Time went on, my collection grew and I practiced and I became a little better. So I started comming out a little more. The prizes at the top were a little better.
Running and playing games should be a simple thing, most of us just want to have fun but when you peel things back there are all kinds of layers there. Great prizes are a good encentive for people to come out and play, does that necessarily mean greater attendance? A case could be made for increased competativeness among the top players keeping the casual player from wanting to come out.
How many people have we seen in the past couple years come to one or two tournaments, lose a bunch of games and we never see from them again. I'm not saying it's directly related to the prize support them get at the bottom but it could be a factor.
The prizes are just a piece of the puzzle in the overall goal of building and maintaining a healthy skirmish scene and keeping Game Knight going as the place we can get together a couple times a week and play a game we all enjoy.

Hmm, so if tyler isn't there I guess that means I play Tom round 1. In theory, but only if Tom comes out. If not then you'll be facing me, but only of there is an even number of players which one way or another will be in Rob's hands. Should there be an odd number of players in that case you'll end up matched with Garret.

| I had a fun night. My warband consisted of:
SHULUTH, ARCHVILLAN 59 pts. FIRE GIANT FORGEPRIEST 84 pts. DRAGONMARK HEIR OF DENIETH 34 pts. KOBOLD ZOMBIE x3 12 pts. SKELETAL LEGIONNAIRE x2 8 pts. KOBOLD MINER 3 pts.
200 points 9 creatures 7 activations MAP: HELLSPIKE GROTTO
I kept the same warband from the first week of league, but switched my map on Tom's recommendation. Shuluth was hungry tonight and died in two of three assaults. He ate a skeleton and Vlaakith in the first round. He ate the two Bat Familiars that mostly killed him in the second round, but he didn't get to eat in the tense third match against two Large Black Dragons, but the Fire Giant Forgepriest came through on a key 50/50 morale save and the lowly Kobold Miner accounted for at least 30 more tile points than my opponent. One thing is for certain, I was glad I wasn't fighting two Forgepriests. The rare from the booster draft was a Large Brass Dragon which is a very nice addition to my collection, as is the Wererat Rogue repaint. All in all, it was a good night, but it's kind of scary being at the top of the ladder. I just hope I can stay there. | | FEED ME! ----------------------------------------------

| Strangely the Star Wars results still haven't been received. Perhaps we should contact Wizards and see if something is up. I'll drop by after work to see if there is something missing in the info that's uploaded.
As for the league it was designed to be hard to stay on top. Everyone is gunning for the #1 spot but look at it this way, all you have to do is win your next 30 consecuative games to stay there.

No one ended up where they began the evening so that should prove to be interesting as the league plays out.

As an example in the next league session Norm and Chris V could likely be paired together. Both have 70 points currently but Norm as a result of attending the last session is ranked one place higher on the ladder.
Should they play and Norm wins then there is no change as he was ranked higher, both players stay at 70 points. If Chris wins though then he gains 10 points and Norm loses 10 points.
