I emailed one of my obscure suppliers, and haven't heard yet. I also just got off the phone with another outfit that handles Old Glory stuff. He orders every 4-6 weeks or so, and will be ordering in about 3 weeks. So, (Nico, or any one else) if you want that ship, let me know soon, and I'll get it on it's way out. Price shiould be in line with what you see on their website (+/- 10%).

http://reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/02454

http://reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/02466

http://reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/03088

And if you want to research pirate vernacular:

http://www.talklikeapirate.com/piratehome.html

So what would my pirate name be... ( http://www.stupidstuff.org/main/piratename.htm )

Vicious Ned The Ripper

or ( http://www.piratequiz.com/ )

Iron Tom Bonney

Thank You very much for looking Scott I know your busy.
I will definetly buy one of the 03211 and use the monkey maybe as a younger version
of myself initially if Mike approves.  The Hadozee grow up fast so I think it is Okay.  Again
I will see if Mike approves.

Then as my older self do you think you can get 02454? preferable for me.
But 02466 is Okay too - if that is easier I guess some of these are discontinued???

What say you Oh mighty DM???
Any possibility of getting/ordering that ship Scott - Sorry to throw more work at you.
Mark it up so you make something.

Stop monkeying around - thats my job!!!

Most of those Reaper monkey minis would be way too big. You'd be better off getting a regualr human one and painting fur on it.

As for the Chinese lets keep the discussion in one place on the current campaign thread.

The good ape mini was from Paizo, you could order it directly from them if one of Scott's suppliers can't get it.

If you ordered it today it could be here in time to paint next week....

I'll have to think up some kind of bonus to give Nico for buying the ship. Above and beyond the call of duty.

I have a little special bonus feat in mind.......

"Champion of the Centaur Commander. Knight of the Gnoll Druid. Vindicated Champion of the Dragon Wrought Kobold!

The early life of Migwin, son of Tigrin:

Migwin was born the only son of Tigrin, warrior of the Golden Paw tribe, and his bride Leora during summer, Kythorn 11th, in the Year of the Dragon.  Unfortunately, Leora died during childbirth. Leora was a young bride, taken in a raiding party and awarded to Tigrin for his bravery as a warrior. She was only 13, and not yet ready to birth a child. The tribal shamans were not able to save her. Despite her short life as Tigrin’s bride, the two had formed a strong bond to each other.

Tigrin was a proud and fierce warrior of the tribe, and at age 24 had proven himself as a noble and fierce warrior, a tracker without equal, and a superior horseman. There were few things he couldn’t excel at. With his wife’s death, he was ill prepared when fatherhood was thrust upon him. Although his fellow tribes-people felt he should remarry and take another bride Tigrin felt it was his duty to raise the child himself. To take another bride would demean his relationship with Leora. He owed her that.

Life was hard for Tigrin at first. Going from tracking and hunting to feeding a babe goats milk from a bladder was a very big change. The women of the tribe all helped where they could though. It wasn’t long before Tigrin fell back into his old routines, and left most of the child rearing to the women of the tribe. But he hadn’t abandoned the child at all, he just wasn’t suited to raising an infant.

As Migwin grew into a young boy, Tigrin got the lad involved in tracking, horse-riding and hunting. He became a very athletic youth, more so than even the other boys in the tribe. At the age of 9 he outran the chief’s son in a footrace. The chief, Meerta, praised young Migwin for his prowess at atletics. He was awarded his own horse then, a fine young stallion named Zee’enna. His son Leerka, 11, wasn’t so happy to be bested by a younger boy, and wasn’t happy to be displaced as the most athletic youth in the tribe. This started a rivalry that was going to last until manhood.

Migwin was 13 when the first hint of sorcery appeared. In a hunting party he got separated from the other hunters. The group had gone out looking for great plains wildcats. When a great cat found him alone, it could have been his life. He remembered that cats were afraid of fire, but of course he didn’t have any. The great cat was upon him, clawing him viciously, and in a moment of fear for his life he spoke the word “fire”, willing it to appear and save him. It did exactly that a flames shot out from his very hands to burn the greatcat. The cat Migwin remained unharmed, and was unable to believe he had caused them to appear. He was proud to have taken down the cat by himself and couldn’t wait to tell the others. When the others in the hunting party arrived and saw the seared flesh of the great cat, they thought it must have been the work of demons, and were fearful. Migwin sensed that revealing himself as the originator of the flames would bring ill tidings.

Later, when alone with his father, he revealed the truth of the incident. His father was awestruck, and devastated at the same time. Sorcerous powers were the work of demons, the snake people, and the evil ones. He should not reveal this to anyone, and should try to banish all thoughts of that kind of thing. Tigrin right away thought of Leora, and how she was taken on a raid of another tribe. Could it be that the woman he loved possessed the blood of demons? He was torn between his love of his son and dead wife, and fear of great and evil powers that could be working through his son. Perhaps the lad had been mistaken, and it was an isolated lightning strike that ignited some brush and caused the harm to the cat. Or maybe it was the work of another tribe, resorting to summoning demons for their own evil plans. Migwin certainly got the impression that the fire that saved his life was something to be feared, and tried to banish all thought of it from his mind.

As time went on, other things happened that made him start to believe that he might just be a little different than the others. There was a time when swift riders came raiding, and he could see the glowing power emanating from the shoes on the horses feet. When asking about what it was, he was greeted with suspicious looks from the others in the tribe. During a wrestling match, he summoned up a protective barrier to keep his opponent at bay. On another occasion when hunting foul, his arrows had missed by wide margin. Desperate and angry, not wanting to go back to camp without having caught anything, and having failed all day to bring down any birds with his bow, another magical energy sprouted from his hand and brought the birds down. Leerka started to catch on at this, as the birds brought back to camp bore no wounds. It must have been the work of “the evil eye”. And Migwin was accused of being in league with the devils. Since he was bigger, stronger and faster than any of the other youths, it didn’t take long before more than one person was starting to suspect something.

But Migwin for the most part just brushed it off. It wasn’t like he had any control of these magical energies. He couldn’t summon balls of fire, or teleport home, or fly, or grant himself wishes when he wanted them. The small amount of magic only appeared in times of duress. Sometimes it didn’t even appear then.

Life progressed for Migwin. He grew into manhood, a capable tracker, a skilled hunter, and an able horseman. The previous years had not really engaged the tribe in much battle at all. Was he a capable warrior? Well that remained to be seen. The few small raids visited upon the Golden Paw tribe weren’t all that severe, just the usual stealing of women and horses. Migwin was skilled with the use of the bow, and had managed to bring down a few of the rival tribes horses. He participated in some skirmishes with gnolls on one occasion, and it was during his seventeenth year that he scored his first kill: a gnoll warrior. Dipping his fingers in the blood of his fallen foe and painting a feather over Migwin’s chest, Chief Meerta elevated him to Warrior of Golden Paw tribe.

In the Ritual of Manhood that followed, Migwin drank Sanguimel (a mixture of the blood of your enemies, essence of wormwood, and strong mead) from the tribal mazer cup. In visions brought on by the Sanguimel, Migwin saw himself as a hawk swooping in to attack his prey. The tribal Shaman, Tiribithin declared it to be his totem, a symbol to heed in the future. Little did he know how prophetic that would become.

Then came a day when all the tribes came together at the council hills for the spring gathering of tribes. The Council Hills are a neutral ground, sacred to the usually warring tribes where no fighting is allowed. The tribes of the Shaar would meet every spring and every fall to discuss issues of concern between them, to arrange marriages, trade essential goods, and exchange news and information. In the Year of the Tankard The Council Hills became home to a large group of hill giants. The giants liked the locale and didn’t want to leave. They didn’t respect the tribal “no fighting custom” and drove the tribes-people away. They soon realized what would happen if they gave pursuit, and would quickly retreat back into the Council Hills.

Since the gathered tribes could only attack the giants outside the Council Hills, they were at a bit of an impasse. They couldn’t enter the territory to deal with the giants, so they summoned some mercenaries and adventurers to chase the giants out. During one encounter, Migwin was struck hard by a giants club. As the giant was about to bring his club down on Migwins friend Gorran, fire erupted from his hands burning the giant terribly. This act saved Gorran, but was witnessed by the chieftains son, Leerka, amongst others. Once the skirmish was over and the group returned to camp, Leerka announced Migwin’s sorcery to the tribe. Some were shocked, and some had suspected that it would happen sometime, especially after the rumours about Migwin. Normally this would mean death, but because of his good standing in the tribe, the elders were reluctant to outright kill the brave young warrior. They pushed him to leave and join another tribe. Leerka pushed the issue, and challenged him to single combat to prove his innocence or guilt. Since they were outside the Council Hills, the no-fighting rules did not apply. Migwin was forced to immediately answer for his crimes.

An area was cleared, and the two warriors were equipped with weapons with which to duel. Tigrin gave his son his mighty battle-axe, a weapon that helped the mighty warrior fell many foes. The battle that ensued was a fierce one, with both fighters taking much damage. Leerka finally faked out Migwin, throwing dirt in his eyes and knocking away his fathers axe, and knocking him to the ground. Just as he was about to deliver the death blow, flames erupted from Migwin’s hands, searing Leerka’s face and chest and dropping him to the ground unconscious. Migwin got to his feet and walked over to his fallen foe. Looking over at the chief, who saw his son on the ground about to die, Migwin holstered his axe. He also knew that everyone in the tribe had seen the horrible fires. “There is no honour in delivering a deathblow to a fallen foe. I am cursed, and I do not want to hurt anyone of you. I will accept whatever fate you decide.” Migwin then brought his fathers axe and dropped it at the chieftains feet.

There was a big uproar, with several tribespeople calling for death. Many more called for his life to be spared, as he saved Gorran this day, as well as sparing Leerka’s life. There was a meeting of the elders that went late into the night. Tigrin very vocally stuck up for his son. Someone said that it must have been his lineage, and accused Tigrin’s dead wife Leora as being an offspring of demons. Tigrin almost took that person’s head off. But people didn’t know her well, and the story seemed plausible. Chief Meerta called for silence and then spoke. Since there was no way to determine Leora’s past lineage, and obvious evidence of sorcerous blood running in Migwin’s veins, it must be that she was a demonspawn. It very well could fall to pass that Tigrin was bewitched by her sorcery. Since her offspring was also demonspawn (even as good and honourable of a warrior as he is), they could not be a member of the tribe with such lineage. Migwin was therefore judged excommunicated from the tribe. This absolved Tigrin of bad lineage, and spared Migwin’s life. He was to gather what he could carry, leave his horse with the tribe, and leave the tribal lands.

Tigrin didn’t believe for a second that his dead wife was a demonspawn. He didn’t even think Chief Meerta believed such to be true either. But it was the only way to keep Migwin from a death sentence. As much as Tigrin disdained sorcery, he loved his son and wanted to see him live. He accepted this ruling. As Migwin gathered his few meager possessions, Tigrin came and presented him with his great axe. “This axe was my fathers, as it was his fathers before him. It is now yours, as you are my son. I will not have another, and you are certainly worthy of it. I hope it keeps you alive long enough to give it to your son.” Migwin took it, and hugged his father. His life wasn’t over but it may as well have been. A lone warrior on the plains with no horse was an easy target for the Wemics, the gnolls, slavers or worse.

As he was about to leave, old Tiribithin the shaman approached him. “Migwin, there are many types of magic in the world, more types than we here on the great plains know. Demonspawn do not love and respect their fellow tribes people the way you do. However, the magic you have cannot be used here with our people. Seek the magic users to the north. They may not be an honourable people, but they may help you come to terms with the curse that has befallen you. Take this, a horse-bone carving of your Sacred Hawk Totem, perhaps it will help you in your journey, Young Hawk.” He said, referring to Migwin’s totem.

Migwin left that night. His life was much different after that day.He wasn’t sure he wanted to learn more of this magic thing, but he knew he needed answers of some kind. His travels took him across the plains into strange and exotic lands. He found the people of these lands were more apt to take advantage of him.Life certainly didn’t go well for him during the next 2 months as he wandered the plains. He was shunned by the other tribes and always turned away. There was no way to make a life for him-self if he were to remain on the plains of Shaar.

A lone warrior doesn’t last long on the plains. It wasn’t long until a tribe of gnolls caught up with Migwin, and almost killed the young man.He put up a good fight, and even the gnolls realized the worth of his size and strength. They put him to work as a slave hauling their gear around as they raided other tribes on the plains. His father’s axe was taken from him, and he never saw it again.Migwin learned their language, and given a choice of being their servant or their food, bided his time waiting to escape.A day came while raiding another tribe, The Arrokwaas.Migwin struck out at his gnolls captors, flying into a frenzy that saw 6 of them brought down.During the melee Migwin uncontrollable magic surfaced again, this time in the form of missiles of light. He took a blow to the side of the head and his world went black.

He awoke in a delirium in a holding cell in a slave caravan wagon. As it turns out the gnolls saw fit to sell him to the slave trade in Unther. The gnoll chieftain didn’t want a slave that could work magic, and “overlooked” this fact (fortunately for Migwin) when selling him to the human traders. The slave master saw fit that one of Migwins stature would fetch top gold at auction.Migwin was nursed back to health while on the road, and put to work hauling the slave wagons as they wound their way to the coast. He was put on the auction block and sold to a half orc named Ugluk. This half orc was the captain of a small free-merchant ship, the Razor’s Edge.Migwin was soon to be taught the ways of life at sea.

Although he was a big guy, Ugluk was meaner and more experienced of a fighter.Migwin was taught right quick about not jumping when told to.Ugluk was swift to punish his slaves over the smallest slight.Migwin saw more than one of his fellow slaves fed to the sharks for the pleasure of Ugluk and his crew.So multiple bruises and whippings later, Migwin settled into the routines of life at sea.Ugluk took advantage of Migwins size and strength, and he was usually put to work doing hard physical labour on the top deck.“Big Mig” was indeed worth the price.

He spent over a year on board learning the ways of the sea.Although he missed the wide open plains, the wide open seas were a better life for him than life with the gnolls. His fellow shipmates were very much like a new tribe. Some of them weren’t the most honourable types, but most were okay.During this time he befriended a pair of dwarves, Gunthar and Ralvar. Then one day another new slave, a young human named Beregon (son of Orthos), came on board. The slender red headed Beregon was obviously an educated and bookish sort, ill suited to physical labour. But being slaves, and both humans in a motley crew of humanoids, they became friends.

During an encounter with the pirates slave over-seer, a scarred hobgoblin called Murkish, Migwin’s fire erupted again.  He was being beaten, a little too severely, over some small oversight of failing to secure some rigging.Fury rose up inside him and the flames shot forth once more.Ugluk then asked about his powers, and Migwin said he didn’t know.He was looking for answers, and didn’t understand them help.Fearing that Migwin was lying, he ordered Migwins hands be locked inside metal gauntlets in order to protect himself and the other crew.During the day when he was working the gauntlets were kept on, to prevent any fancy finger work.At night they were removed, but he was shackled to his bunk.

Beregon approached him not long afterwards and revealed a secret to Migwin, that he was a mage himself.“Your magic is wild, and manifests itself in times of duress. With some practice, you can probably learn some degree of control over it.”He tried to explain the difference between his book magic and Migwin’s sorcerous magic. It was tough to understand at first, and the two men couldn’t spend much time talking about either. There was always work to do, and Migwin still had to put up with being bound up most of the time. But when time allowed, Beregon would teach him of mages and their ways.

It was in The Year of the Wild Magic (appropriately) that life took another sharp left turn. The crew of the Razor’s Edge had taken the ship to close to a dangerous reef where the rocks sprouted from the sea like giant teeth.A fierce storm beset the ship rather suddenly, and the ship was tossed up against the rocks violently.  Ugluk, Murkish, and the rest of the crew abandoned ship when it started to lean uncontrollably to the port side.Sensing they were going to be left to a sinking ship, the two dwarves Gunthar and Ralvar over powered one of the slavers, and then another, using their chains to choke the life out of them. They took the slavers knives and whips, and tossed the keys to the other slaves before disappearing over the side of the ship.Beregon grabbed the keys and set both Migwin and himself free. The ship then ripped apart on the rocks and both men were tossed into the sea.By Tempus Migwin swore he wasn’t going to die here.He found a large part of a mast and hung on for his life. When morning came he found himself afloat amid a field of debris.Beregon had also survived, but there was no sign of the dwarves, the slavers or any of the other slaves.

They clung to the mast although it seemed they would simply keep drifting until starvation took them. But Tempus must have other plans for Migwin, as they spotted a ship. They were brought aboard Kelwyn’s Gamble, where they were fed and clothed. The crew were mostly a strange race of humanoid called Hadozee, who looked like ape-men.But they were able sailors, and not cruel like the slavers.Migwin gladly helped aboard the ship, and was respected for his size and strength. He could have stayed with the crew of the Kelwyn’s Gamble, but his friend Beregon longed to get home.It turned out that Marsember was a destination the Gamble planned to visit.Beregon decided to return to his family, and convinced Migwin to join him.If Migwin truly learned to control his wild magic, answers could be found in Marsember.A few weeks later, they disembarked.

Migwin found Marsember overwhelming.Never had he seen so many people living in one area.He stayed with Beregon’s family, although they seemed to resent his presence. They were friendly enough at first glance, but Migwin always got the feeling they thought of him as stupid. It was true he couldn’t read the signs around town, but who needed them out on the plains.Migwin couldn’t hunt in the city, and it seemed to sprawl around endlessly.Built on little islands it was difficult to get away into the country. But he stuck with Beregon, and Beregon was trying (patiently) to teach Migwin about magic. Most of his knowledge was found in the books he valued so much, but again the strange squiggles on the paper eluded Migwin.

Migwin’s thought’s would drift while at his studies with Beregon, and while doing odd jobs around the family household.Strangely enough he found himself not thinking about riding again on the plains, but rather of being on the open waters at sea. When Migwin and Beregon would discuss this, even Beregon seemed to find reliving moments aboard the Razor’s Edge fondly (except the beatings). Then, word came to them about some man called Salty Pete, who was looking for crew.It sounded like a great chance to get back to the sea again.

The last ten paragraphs are new, updated to bring my background in sync with Chris L's.  Has Migwin seen the last of Ugluk or Murkish again?  Will he ever see his tribe again?  Can he hope to retreive his father's axe from the gnolls?

Updated September 5th - added correct years and dates, and magic Hawk totem carving.
Updated September 12th - added more backstory about life aboard a slave crewed pirate ship, and included Chris L's character Beregon.

Salty Pete is for the most part painted aside from a couple details and some touch ups. Painting is fun.

As for Wednesday I'll be down to hang out and help you flesh out your characters. Perhaps we can order up a pizza.

For those interested we will again be starting in the Year 1372 DR (The Year of Wild Magic), pretty standard. The specific date will be the 12th of Tarsakh (roughly April).

Just pick a day and I'll tell you what year your character was born.

Uh Mike, did you happen to notice this mini makes this an R rated campaign???

Mind you the Sucubus is equally mature content.  Garret, if you coming tomorrow
we could liven up your character.  Sounds like your not to happy with it.

Heading to GameKnight right after work tomorrow.  Be there for 5 pm guys. :)

Nico,

She's wearing a blouse, it is just really thin ...

On another note, I am being laid off from one job for a bit.  Having driven over 1200 km over the long weekend, and having worked 18 days straight I think I am going to miss tomorrow evening.  I just need one night of nothing to recover.

I will be re-energized for the campaign start, however.

Cheers

Coming from the Galena Mountains would make sense as they are fairly local. Assuming you want to come from a Dwarven community. You would get Damaran as a bonus language and your choice of a Masterwork Heavy Pick, Dwarven urgosh, or Chain Mail.

We can go with the hawk carving there Scott. Once per day when grasped it will give you a +10 to your spot checks as long as you concentrate for up to a minute.

Here's some info on Marsember for those interested on the starting location.

The second-largest city in Cormyr is built on a series of sandy islands, themselves surrounded by a canal network. The population ranges from about 46,000 to as many as 53,000, when transient seafarers stay over in Marsember during fishing season.

The canal network that divides the islands of Marsember also functions as a common sewer. During the summer, the stench from the canals can be overpowering in some sections of the city. However, the sewage has the positive effect of inhibiting ice from forming during winter, keeping the city´s commerce lines open.

Although there are bridges connecting all of the islands that form Marsember, a common means of transportation is the skiff, a pole-driven, flat-bottomed boat 2-4 feet wide and 8-10 feet long with upswept ends. A typical Marsembian skiff might contain two hook-end poles and two paddles for propulsion, and a canvas cover that can be used as a sail if it´s rigged properly using the two poles.

The is an astounding variation in quality among skiffs, with expensive ones serving as symbols of high status.

There is no fee or tax to operate a skiff within Marsember, but there are construction and maintenance costs. The fee for docking at Marsember is 1 gp/month for a 90-foot long berth. Marsember´s prices are half those of Suzail, making Marsember the most popular port in Cormyr.

Marsember is best know for its spices. In fact, it´s sometimes referred to as the City of Spices.

The trade has taken Marsember´s merchant companies to many faraway lands on quests to retrieve the rare and exotic seeds, barks, and berries that are processed into the highly desirable seasonings. Also, there is a great deal of fishing in the Lake of Dragons from Marsember, which adds to the number of ships passing in and out of the city´s ports.

Marsember also sees considerable trade in furniture and perfume. All of this makes Marsember the most advanced and busiest port in Cormyr. The hundreds of canals within the city are always busy with pole-driven skiffs. It is also a major shipbuilding and repair center.

The largest trading company in Marsember is the Six Coffers Market Priakos.

Migwin is 20, so that would make his birthyear 1352, The Year of the Dragon.

I was going to go with June 11th as a birth date, which would be Kythorn 11th, right?  (I'm doing my FR homework right now).  I've gone back and updated my story with years and dates, and tidied up a few typos and bad grammer.

I'll have to hammer out my recent (last year) of back story with Chris when he has a chance.  I like the ex-slaves idea, but we can also be travelling friends, both with an interest in magic.

Have you decided on some bonus skill points there MJ?  I'd love to have a bonus feat though.
