Tales from the Chronicler Oct. 3rd Night 3

The Final Trapped Chest, a Water Hazard and a Blue Tease Part I

Our wizard Tal has astutely determined that the spikes are spring loaded. He has
outlined various strategies to secure the contents of the chest behind 60 steel spikes.
Other suggestions from the Party are: Acid Splash, fill the pit with water, bend the bars
and Migwins favorite - use rope/vine to twist or lever a log that raises the spikes. The
Party elects to follow Migwin's idea along with the Wizard's other plans.

The Party leaves the dungeon for the Swamp about 100 yrds. to avoid using rotten wood.
Cederith and Tal are viligant as the rest start to harvest trees (Warcraft); and ... Cedrith ...
spots ... 6 Bullywug Thugs. Alerting the rest of the group Cedrith casts Magic Weapon to
his Elven Sword. The Hadozee Rogue tumbles for the flank with Cedrith and critically sneak
attacks ... and kills a BULLYWUG. Cedrith is not so fortunate as he misses a 2nd THug and
goes down under the blade. Tharnog the Dwarf charges in to kill a Bullywug. Migwin steps
5 foot and hits hard another Thug he calls FROG!!! Tharnog kills yet another Bullywug (man,
this Dwarf is hot tonight folks). Cedrith is revelling in pain as he fails to stabalize, Tal tries to
tend to his comrades misery. Migwin kills a Bullywug and the Dwarf moves in for the final kill.
All in all not a bad bit of slaying for the day. The Party acquires 6 spears with leather hide
armour. Loose change (coins) on the bodies and we continue to chop trees.

Evening comes at the end of the 4th day and the Party fortifies their position in the
center room - with plenty of firewood to boot. The Wizard and the Cleric take 1st watch,
Migwin and the Hadozee take 2nd and Tharnog the final watch of the night. The night
passes uneventfully and the party is very happy to heal fully.

The Heavies of the Party - Migwin and Tharnog - begin bending the spikes through
might and lever action. Tal shrinks down the Hadozee using Reduce Person after a rope
is secured to his waist. The Hadozee Rogue easily makes his way through the bent spikes.
Taking his time to search the chest the Rogue discovers that opening the chest resets
the trap and the spikes recede - HOORAY!!! But the trap grinds to a jam and is quite
stuck. Carefully taking his time - Tal's urging - Grath finds ... Knee High Boots, waterproof
Leather Satchel and a full corked jug. Upon inspection Tal is able to see a magical glow
around the jug when the Hadozee holds it high. The jug may have 5 healing portions
Tal muses - filling into other viles might be a plan.

The satchel contains a gold ring (another one! who keeps losing these things?) and an
old weathered parchment ... seeming to taunt the Hadozee ..."MONKEY IS...!" Everyone
loves to tease the Monke....Hadozee Grath grumbles. But Tal and Cederith inquire if the
parchment might be a map ... Grath thinks it just might be so ... They shout back,
MONKEY ISLAND of which there may be 4 or more in the local vicinity!!!
Oh, Grumbles Grath ... Oh Thats very different Indeed, He is much more cheerfull now!

Upon examining the chest the Hadozee appears to have missed something under his very
nose ... a false bottom in this chest. Grath is excited at the prospect of more booty and
coin as he quickly removes the bottom to find ....ACK ... more gas, ... or spraying powder!
Our cimmian friend in now .....GREEN in huish colour!!! He sneezes and coughs up a storm
as the dust clears, and the party is glad to be across the pit. Taking his time (wiser now
Grath I think, and greener too ...) the Hadozee does a proper search of thing (too late
but better safe than sorry) Grath eventually finds a brown wooden lacquered box. His
eyes turn green with envy to match his now magical fur as Tal has determined. Migwin
and Tharnog fetch some wooden planks to bridge the pit for the Rogue!

Inside is 100 GP of chestenta gold pieces from over the Sea!!! No Grath they are
not only for thee!!! Tal and Cedrith determine that Grath's fur is not permanently altered.
A week at most would his colour be green from the magical alteration spell probably cast
to track the thief of the gold. Grath grumbles but is gratefull for their counsel. Yet he
squats there licking his fur nevertheless, his tongue now also a brightly lit green too. The
Party is amused as they retreat for lunch at this mid-day of the 5th day of their quest. Will
the Hadozee's green hued tongue allow him to taste his food, which may also turn green!!!

I'm glad the social went well.

As for dinner I'm okay with Fish and Chips, but considering Rob may be the one who has to go out and pick up the order this week perhaps Quiznos would be a better call.

I'll try my best to get that diary and final chronicling done; but, I am at
work now and have to get some student marks back. Joy

I am happy you made money at the Social Rob - how much were the
tickets? If Rob picks up dinner then he should definitely get something, XP???
potions, ...???

Otherwise we should all just do subs tonight.

More server maintainance it seems.

Considering the server downtime of late any postings you have to do for XP etc will be given some extra time, let's say until next Wedensday for the bonus XP.

so the extension is awesome.

Cedrith's Diary

Entry 1:

I awoke this morning having dreamt of the ape man once again... I was in the docks section of Marsember and I saw him moving into the Blushing Mermaid a disreputable place if I've ever seen one, still Correlon works in mysteious ways at times and between the visions of the sea and my dreams of the ape man my path is clear, I must meet this man and help him to see the destiny Correlon has laid out for him.

I packed up my camp a and traveled the last hour or so into Marsember, and when I asked the Guards at the gate about the Blushing Mermaid they sent me to see a young human.  It seems this young man was hired to recuit adventurers to join the the crew of a ship...the signs are easy to follow...I got proper directions to the Blushing mermaid from this child and made my way to the establishment.

I entered the Mermaid and was directed by the serving girl to a table Where I found my mysterious Ape man also waiting to meet with Salty Pete.  There were a couple others waiting aswell, 2 humans one rather large and primitive looking and another who looked more refined, and a dwarf wearing heavy armor.  We all spoke of how we came to be here and then noticed another bar patron staring us down. It turned out that this was none other than the Satly Pete we were all here to meet.  After some discussion it was decided that he needed to test us before we could join his crew.  His test is for us to retrieve his compass from an old fort out in the swamps.

Cedrith's Diary

Entry 2 - Salty Pete's Compass:

We spent the night in the family home of Beregon, his Mother and Sister seemed a little put off having us there but Beregon insisted.  In the morning we gathered some supplies and began our travels to the swamps.  After 1 and a half days we reached the edge of the swamps and by the end of the day we had found the old fort where we made camp for the night.

The next morning we searched around but found nothing resembling a compass above ground but we did find a trapdoor covering a staircase into the ground.  We traveled down into the old keeps basement and discovered hallways breaking off into 3 directions.  We went down one of the hallways and found a moldy door that appeared not to have been moved in ages. We then went down another hall and found a locked door, Grath looked over the door and declared it safe and we opened it only to discover a bunch of Goblins, Migwin charged in and killed one and then Beregon put the rest to sleep with his magics.  We dispatched the rest of the vile monsters Grath went to work on the next door he declared it safe only to discover that there was indeed a trap when Migwin and Tharnog were struck by arrows. Grath was able to disable the floor panel trigger and we moved into the next room where we found more goblins. We fought and killed them all and then I spent my healing magics for the day on myself and my compainions.  We discovered a chest with a bunch of copper pieces in it.

We then went back the other way to find a room partially filled with water with doors leading 2 directions off of it.  One doorway was in the water and when Migwin went to check it he fell into a hole in the floor.  We pulled him out and the dwarf claimed to hear something moving in the water so we decided to go the other way.

Down a hallway we found a portcullis which Migwin and Tharnog managed to lift and after they dropped it a bunch of dire rats attacked us.  We managed to kill them all but were wounded in the effort. After that Grath found a trapdoor in the ceiling.  We sent him up there and I followed him but waited at the door.  When he moved past the portcullis it moved up and blocked him in there where he found a chest with a potion in it and another trap door in the ceiling, he opened it up and found that the room was filling with poisonous gas.  Migwin and Tharnog managed to move the portcullis down in time for Grath to escape and we both got out of the traped crawlspace ok.

We then continued into the next room where we found a chest, as we moved into the room the floor fell out beneath us revealing a spiked pit trap.  We used a broken table to cross the pit and Grath moved over to the chest.  When he opened it, the spikes sprang up to the ceiling and Grath jumped backwards narrowly avoiding impalement and the chest fell closed.

After this failure we decided it was time for a rest, we took turns on gaurd duty durring the night and Tharnog heard slithering from the other side of the moldy door.  In the morning Tharnog broke down the moldy door and we discovered 2 multilegged abominations like a cross between a centipede and a slug only huge.  They were nearly the end of us but Beregon managed to kill one while the rest of us were paralysed and then we made short work of the 2nd when we recovered.  We opened another door and found a chest with the compass in it.

We were all tired after the fight but we decied to work on getting to the chest that was on the other side of the spike trap.  We went above gound to gather some wood and were ambushed buy some frog men.  I fell in battle with them but Beregon was able to revive me with a healing potion.  We then took the wood down into the dungeon and had another rest.

In the morning Beregon and Migwin developed a plan to use the wood we had cut down to spread the spikes apart enough to allow Grath, who had been shrunk down and greased by Beregon's magic to move through.  When he finally opened the chest again the spikes started to move back down but this was prevented by the logs we were using to pry the spikes apart and they only retracted partway.  We discovered a partial treasure map a ring inlaid with an ivory skull and a pair of black leather boots in the chest and in a hidden panel at the bottom of it 100 Chesentan gold pieces.

We decieded that since we still had a fair bit of time before Salty Pete's time limit that we would explore the flooded water hole.  Tharnog went down and nearly fell into another hole but we pulled him up again.  He went down again and when he came back up told us of a glowing alter.  We rested to recover our spells and in the night heard sounds of battle from above.  In the morning we went up and discovered the remains of frog men and orcs that had been killed by a Black Dragon as evidinced by the claw marks and acid burns.  Tharnog again went down to the alter and tied off a rope so that we could all follow him down where we found an alter holding a Bec de Corbin which we discovered had the magical ability to glow blue when there is a dragon within 1 mile.

We decided that with the Black dragon around we should play it safe and leave, in the early evening we found a cave and as we approached it the Bec de Corbin started to glow so we moved away and camped on the edge of the swamp. In the night the Bec de Corbin glowed again so we put out our fire for the night.  We traveled on for the next day and again the Dragon was near but we did not see it.  We met up with a farmer on the road and warned him of the Dragon in the area and escorted him to his farm, where he was kind enough to put us up for the night.  The next day we returned to Salty Pete and presented him his missing Compass.

Cedrith's Diary

Entry 3 - A trip to Wyrvenspur:

We spent a couple days recovering and shopping in Marsember, Beregon was staying with his mother and sister fighing off the fetid flu that he had picked up from the rats and Migwin spent a night outside of town communing with nature and came back with a Falcon familiar. Salty Pete approached us with a job offer, his friend Percy had agreed to be the Quartermaster on the new ship and he asked us to travel to Wyrvenspur to escort him back.

We gathered traveling supplies and headed out the next morning.  3 days out on the road we met up with a frantic farmer who's chickens had gone missing.  He claimed they were taken by dogs. We traveled to his farm and discovered that it was not dogs at all but small humanoids, possibly Kobolds.

Migwin was able to track them to a cave entrance a couple hours away from the farm and so we moved down into the cavern.  At the bottom we found it split off to the left and right with a door at both ends.  Tharnog and Grath moved to the left side and found that there was an arrow trap on the door.  Migwin and I went to the right and found that the door was unmovable.

Tharnog and Grath forced open the door and we found that there was indeed a crossbow trap attached to the back of it.  In the room we found a pile of sticks and a chest.  In the chest were a bunch of moldy moth eaten clothes and upon closer inspection I found a book with magical writing on the frist page, though the rest of it seems water damaged.  We also found another door.

We forced our way throuh this door and found a group of Kobolds ready to defend the roasting chickens in the middle of the room.  We fought and killed most of them and Migwin tried to intimidate them causing a couple to run into the next room when we chased the runners we found another group of them.  We killed some but left the few that cowered and surrendered with their lives.  In this room we found a chicken bone necklace and 9 live chickens of the 20 that the farmer was missing.  We also found another doorway and some copper and silver coins.  In the next room we found a chest of drawers filled with rocks blocking the door that Migwin and I were unable to open.  We decided to take the 9 living chickens back to the farmer and to give him enough of the copper pieces to replace the chickens that were missing.

Well, I've put it on and so far it's not a necklace of stragulation.  Nor has it turned me into a large chicken (yet).

I probably won't have time to figure out proper XP totals until this weekend when I'm actually at home with my books for more than 5 minutes and not sleeping.

We'll continue more or less where we left off this week. In theory we should have a full house this week.

Sure, XP bonus, why not.

Bergeron will join up with you some time this week.

Where your character meets him, what will you tell him about your heroic exploits during the great chicken rescue?

The player who tells the best story of his exploits and why Bergeron will regret not being there to share in all the glory will gain 250 XP for themselves and their favorite wizard.

Chickenwise, I'm not a big fan of eating it off the bone, so KFC works for me and I can get popcorn chicken or crispy strips.  Plus they have pretty decent macaroni salad.

Chicken Chef or Chicken Delight are both good for me. KFC has horrible actual chicken, the popcorn chicken etc are okay.

As for the 2 outstanding XP bonuses I'm setting a noon on wednesday deadline.

I can get us a deal on KFC. If it doesn't stack up, we do one of the others next time. My KFC guy says he sells the best KFC, and you must notta tried his store (Henderson HWY). Sounds like a challenge!

And if we know by tomorrow afternoon, I can get delivery by 5:30.
