I'm skipping this set mainly, I'm not getting even starter. I'm trading for some singles, maybe will even order some singles, but that's it. No VR's, about half dozen rares and one piece of most c/uc figures, or in some cases, few.

Maybe the opinions will change after the movie, but right now I don't think the set is worth investment. Furthermore, I've began to think that if there's not many rares I want from a set, and the rares that will be most expensive are not rares I absolutely want, it might be better for me to order just singles. It's difficult to find trading partners for several minis if I'm not buying large amount of boosters (what I'm not usually willing to), and if I'm sending a single well-packed rare overseas, it costs me ~$10. For the same cost, I could order a rare as a single that is not among the most popular.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with Universe. Maybe I'll wait until I see the set list, or maybe I'll preorder a few packs. I want at least one rancor, one at-st and one AAT, and something else too but they are not that critical.

It's a shame because RotS is a jump in quality and game play features. Yes there are many repeats but they are(the rares and VRs anyway)so different from there CS counter parts.

Being released so soon after Deathknell can't be helping sales. Although I'm not sure the cross over market is that big. There are quite a few nice figures in the set but SWM seems so much more expensive to collect between the 7 figures per booster and the very rares. I am tempted to go buy a starter after reading the reports of the map it has.

Actually this is the first set I bought a full case of for myself. I don't try to get a complete set but I figured with this set there are enough things that I wanted that a case would give me enough to trade for them and a couple things from CS. The set overall is pretty good. It is really the VR's that arn't too stellar since a lot of the main characters are regular rares in the set so that makes it easier to collect.

I really don't think the movie will change much. The die hards who have to get it first already have the stuff, and the people waiting for the movie problably won't buy after they see it. I really want the movie to be good, but I just don't see that happening and that will hurt the game.

This was the first time I too bought an entire case. I hate the sculpts on the Clone troopers but Love fringe and other generic characters they have in this set. Part of it may also be the fact that I never realy got into the clone Strike set in the first place. As far as I'm concerned these are all new figures to me. [:D]

Pathetic Earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void - without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe - anything at all - you would have hidden from it in terror.

For Me Deathknell was the so so set and didn't even know it was out till two weeks down the line, even running a D&D game with the BBEG being Undead, and loads and loads of undead as baddies, i was so so on the set, while it has the beholder, i have in 20 years of D&D never run one as a DM and only fought them 4 times, so one of the biggest sought after figures in the set did nothing for me, the Ebberron stuff (and they are getting more and more in the line, while i don't care, doesn't draw mw in), is eh, i liked only some of the common and uncommon figures, and got pretty much what i wanted with 6 boosters. for me, they are starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel on D&D, they are putting in more and more oddball things from books i don't own just to tie them to it, and the things i don't own i won't use likley, or don't like.
Since i have switched to RPG use for them exculsivly i was rather annoyed by the Ambush drake i just think it look like crap would have much prefred a griffon or something, and alot of the rares i just don't care about, Couatl, Centaur Hero, Goliath Barbarian, Rask; Half-Orc Chainfighter, Thaskor, Boneclaw, and the Ambush Drake. Not things i encounter or use enough to desire them. so i had no problems only getting 6 boosters and being done. For me D&D is peaking, straight RPG means i still get some, but i haven't even tried to get sets since GoL...

Having just come back from the RotS release tournet i went to, the map is great, and alot of the figures are fun, and it is getting back to more RPG freindly ones after CS, i thought it was the least freindly, for RPG with few fringe, and MANY Unique Republic figures.

i mean they finally have a Human Male Jedi, that's not a main character!

The generic Jedi is exactly I waited for in CS. I'm happy we have this much Jedi now, unique and non-unique! How could one GM a game with no Jedi after all those miniatures to choose from? :D

Medical droid is great, although I still wonder the rarity. Human fringer is great, as well some other.

About two thirds the rares and one third the very rares interest me. So with a lot of luck 12 boosters will do it.

The only commons I'm really interested in are the separatist commando, devaronian soldier and zabrak fringer (both of whom I hope can pass as human).

Of the uncommons which I will not get enough of the ones I want so I will probably have to trade off older rares. I'm liking the alderaan trooper, muun guard and human mercenary...at least are the ones I want in numbers larger than one.

My interest here is mainly RPG needs so what I want are generic enough humans that aren't jedi, rebels or storm troopers. This set has provided a few so I'm reasonably keen on getting some boosters.

The Seperatist commando is realy nice looking. Too bad I only got two of them in my case pull.

Out of two cases(I bought and the others bought here and there). I only have 1 Muun Guard and one Itochi Tech. 2 Human Fringer and 2 Gotal. I am never any good at getting uncommons. Even in DDM I'll have 1 uncommon I only get one of.

That's strange phenomenon, I suffer from it too. Lately I've been very good with rares, I mostly pull only those I want (Dooku, Maul, Yoda, Destroyers, Staps), but no luck with uncommons. I had to get Naboo soldiers and Arcs as singles, from 15 CS boosters I pulled one Naboo soldier and no Arcs!

Likewise, in DDM, I bought 1 starter and 5 boosters of Aberrations. There was only some 7-8 rares I wanted, and I got 5 of them from the boosters + hook horror that I was able to trade. Uncommon situation was better but far from best possible. Rheks, bleh. They would suit SWM better IMO.

My guess is the rarity is largely determined by the sculpt, like the Huge minis, where power stats, etc did not determine if it was U/C it was in many cases the detail of sculpt and design, all of those little arms on the Medical droid, may have made it a pain to produce pushing it from Uncommon to Rare on prodcution issues, if nothign else.

As to the oddness of not getting a figure, i think it all has to do with case packing, they pack things as they come of the line, and are filled from th stock of figures, so you tend to get trends in a case of many haveing the same types of uncommon and, even rares together in boxes packed at the same time, ever since i saw this in D&D, i decided to no longer by two cases at one time, e.i. get them from the exact same time from the same place. Becuase those cases would most likely be from the same time of packing. They get packed loaded and shiped all together, so any packing oddities and trends carried over into the ones together i think we have all seen it where a store, area, location tends to get a bunch of the same R/U becuase they got a big shipment in, you can't easily trade with the people who buy at the same time as you, and the same store becuase you tend to get all of the same Uncommons and a decent number of dups on the rare level.

I have switched to staggerign my case orders so i don't get two from the same packing "time" and thus shiping together. It seems to work, where the three cases that got in to the store and opened by all of us, were largely missing missing Rodian Mercs form the last set, and a cases from a differnt store were missing Wookie Commandos, and the next shipment was missing Geonosian Overseers, (there were some, but the numbers were just very few) there seems to be a packign trend.

Getting things at different times locations breaks up that odd packing trend.

It's too bad you won't be investing in this set, because there are some great units in it - Shaak Ti is a spectacular Jedi in the skirmish game and a beautiful sculpt; the new Obi-Wan is an absolutely amazing addition to a Republic army, Mon Mothma makes Clone Troopers deadly, the new Vader and Sith Anakin are steps above previous Imperial uniques, and Wat Tambor makes Droids a truly competitive army.

It wouldn't take much to trade/buy units like those as singles :-).

Human Fringer? Do you mean the Human Mercenary? I can't find the HF on Wotc's online Gallery. This minature wasn't a promo was it?

No he means Human Mercenary.

Strangely there is an error on the Human Mercenary's card. On the side with the big picture it says Devaronian Soldier...oops.

huh, I never noticed that. I did catch onto the Anakin Skywalker Jedi Knight art mix-up. It realy seems like the scale on the SWM is going up, I know Anakin is suposed to be tall but he makes the Rebel pilot look normal sized.
