I am looking forward to seeing everyone get together for this tournament. After playing in seperate tournaments in Orlando, Daytona Beach, Ocala and Tampa it should be fun having everyone together for this. | | **overlong signature deleted. Please see posting guidelines**

If your trying to get people to drive out of town the big lure is a big tournament with big prizes. I doubt you have alot of sponsors to get the prizes up so charge more.
I was expecting a $25 entry. With $25 per person you can make it worthwhile for the people who drove from Tampa, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Ocala etc. Ill easily spend more than $5 in gas getting to the tournament. With a high entry you could afford better prizes for top8 and door prizes.
Just as reference the NE DDM open is $15 | | www.LocalGaming.biz Visit our store only $2 shipping! www.LocalGaming.net Join our forum!

| Actually, the real entry fee will be higher. doubtofbuddha had not conferred with me about it. Expect another increase. It's a work in progress. Sorry for the miscommunication.

| We are discussing the possibility of having a trophy made for first place. No promises though. We will keep you posted.
Also, would $20 be too high of an entry fee if everyone was guaranteed to get at least one booster with the top half getting at least 2 boosters and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getting 5, 4 and 3 boosters respectively?
The location may be a long drive for some and there is some legitimate concern that making the entry fee higher than $10-$15 might keep attendance low. Any thoughts?

Low entry fee does NOT entice long distance drivers, its the opposite effect. If were driving from Tampa, Jacksonville, Ocala, Gainesville, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tallahassee etc its for BIG prizes (which means big entry) ;)
What do you mean guaranteed booster for everyone? And 1st only gets 5? ICK, sounds like your just selling more boosters and nerfing the winners. Lets play a DDM tournament not little league soccer. Door prizes are ok. Thanks for paying $20 heres your ticket and a booster is lame. I hope my post doesn't come off too harsh, its hard to translate my excitement, my energy, my raw light hearted sarcasm across screens. But seriously if your going to do that I would rather vote to just pay $10 so everyone doesnt get the extra booster. ;) But what I REALLY want to happen is we all pay $20 and first gets 30 boosters! (Actually multiples of 12 would be the magic number because then you could advertise it as boxs of boosters for prize)
$20 entry is perfect, but your idea for prize distribution is appalling. Everyone gather around the top 2 players who have sat through hours of grueling dueling only one of them will be crowned the Florida Champion of DDM open, this game is for all the marbles, their playing for an entire booster!!!! LOL! ;)
I "like" the idea of a trophy hopefully it will look nice (glass!) At first I was like "eh more money away from booster prizes!" but now im thinking "years from now when I show people the Balor I opened from a prize booster, thats like all the other balors out there who will care?" A trophy is a much better show and tell. :)
Have you talked to Jeff Williams yet and gotten his feedback? Since he runs ALL major WOTC tournaments in FL I would value his input.

| Gee, speak your mind why don't ya.....
LOL
Anyway, we are currently talking about the prize support, trophy and entry fee, so much is still in flux.
I could see making top prize an entire case, with 2nd getting 6 boosters and 3rd getting 4 boosters. Everyone else could still get at least 1 booster so the trip isn't a complete waste. Remember, we want to appeal to both the casual gamer as well as the cometitive ones. I would hate coming to an event just to feel like more than half of the atendees are just contributing to the top three player's already overstocked minis collection. It's the best compromise I can think of right now. My guess is we should have more than 12 people show up but I am not sure where the boosters are going to be coming from. If we are getting the boosters wholesale at $8 each then there is more for prize support. If the boosters are provided by the shop then there will be less. Either way the more poeple we get to show up the more prize support we are going to have!
As far as Jeff Williams is concerned I am not sure who Jesse, doubtofbuddha, is talking to but this is scheduled to be held at one of the stores he hosts these kinds of events at normaly.
If the prize support is left up to us then I will be glad to buy a few cases of UD and get the 1st place trophy ready in preperation for the event. Any boosters left over, after the entry fees have "bought" the appropriate amount for prize support, could simply be sold to those who want them. Odds are though the store we will be playing at will not like that so we will see.
None of us, doubtofbuddha, lalato or I will make any money off of this event. In fact I would guess some of us will spend quite a bit of time and money on this without any payback. That is fine since having a somewhat regular event like this is what we all want in the long run anyway. | | **overlong signature deleted. Please see posting guidelines**

How is driving 2 hours to buy a booster not a complete waste? How is that better then paying a smaller entry and buying the booster seperate? This doesn't seem like a benefit to casual players so much as a punishment to competitive/all players.
Were not talking about a free booster here, its paid for in the entry cost. The whole point of a $20 entry is a higher prize payout. If your increasing the cost of entry but instead of increasing prize payouts instead handing out a booster to each entry, whats the point of a entry increase at all? If you increase cost from $10 to $20, but hand out boosters for "casual players" your only increasing prizes by $2 per entry, if thats the case just change $10 to $12 and let people know they CAN buy boosters for $8.
Does this make sense?
How about this, charge everyone else $20 and give them a booster, but charge me the actual amount that goes to prize pool and store profit. | | www.LocalGaming.biz Visit our store only $2 shipping! www.LocalGaming.net Join our forum!

| Seen the debate on the cost for the DDM.
I am up in Gainesville and at a $20 entry fee I will not be making the trip down to Orlando for the tourney. Toll fees alone there and back are over $10 not even counting gas funds. This is a pre contructed deck tourney not even a sealed box so you aren't getting a box of mini's as part of the entry cost.
Seriously though why should everyone pay for just the top 1-3 people to get 'uber' prizes... which is typically 1 or 2 boxes for the 3rd place, 2nd place probably 4 or so boxes and 1st place probably 6 boxes and/or a store credit for like $30...
If you have a $5-$10 prize people are still going to attend.... and I'd think even more people would attend at that price range from further out... and for all those that a big prize ='s their goal the more people that show up the bigger the prize support.
Anyway I hope you have a good turn out but I will not be there with an outright $20 entry fee.
AND IT HAS BEEN MENTIONED BY ONE PERSON HE'D PAY THE DIFFERENCE TO DROP DOWN THE ENTRY FEE COST FOR EVERYONE TO A REASONABLE AMOUNT... THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE DONE BY ONE PERSON... it's not fair to them and should not be necessary.

| Well... for a people coming count, I'll be there (tentativly, I'd need to work out some arrangement)...
$20 is a bit stiff for me, but if I'm garunteed a booster out of it, I'll be able to con myself into it. As for helping others, etc, I can't do that. My financial situation is looking shaky in the near future.
If there isn't a garunteed booster, I could go as high as $12 or $13. And that's cause I like the game.

| Please keep in mind that nothing has been set in stone. The $20 entry fee is only a point of discussion not the final number.
Obviously we will not be able to make everyone happy but we hope to at least do enough that we get a really good turnout.
Some people may just show up for the sake of being able to play in a highly competitive environment, to test their skills and see where they stand. This will also be a great place to scope out the competitors that will be there when the qualifier is help for the championship tournament.
You can never have enough big tournament experience, trust me. If it weren't for the 3 qualifiers I attended back 2003 for the Star Wars TCG game I never would have made it to 26th place at the championship. Not that 26th is much of an achievement but at a tournament that size, 98 people, the pressure knocked quite a few players out who had won their local qualifier which was the biggest tournament they had ever been to and was only attended by 10 people.
Anyway you look at it this will be a fun event that will have some sort of entry fee, prize support and at least a trophy of some sort for first place.
Hope to see you there!

Also, we got pictures back of the repainted Half-Fiend Ogre for the winner and it looks EXCELLENT. A very fiendish looking fellow.
