I played in an un-sanctioned tournament last night for 500 points. There were 8 players in attendance, some of who are on this website, but I have no idea what their screen names are.

Of the bands that were there there were at least two elminster bands, a LE band with Snurre/Fomorian, a Beholder/Iron golem band, and a LG Iron golem band. Not sure about the others.

I ran:
Clay Golem x3
Frenzied Berserker x2
Centaur Hero
Ghaele Eladrin
Crow Shaman

I went 2-1, losing a close match in the finals due to some tactical mistakes where I lost my Ghaele on a silly risk.

First Match:

LG 500
Epic Iron Golem
Stone Giant
Sword Archon
Battle Plate Marshall
Dwarf Artificer

This match went pretty much how I had planned to handle an Iron Golem band. I bogged the golem down with a couple clay golems long enough for my speedier creatures to shoot around the flanks of my opponent and take out his backside. The Berserkers missed three or four attacks on the Marshall before it fell. I ended up losing one berserker, a Clay Golem, and the Crow Shaman. I had no idea the Sword Archon was so fast.

Second Match

LE 500
King Snurre
Fomorian
Duegar Champion x2
Kobold Miner x2
Kobold Sorcerer
Helmed Horror
Aspect of Nerull

Didn't notice it at the time but this guy had more than 8 figures. Oh well. I was again suprised by the speed of the Fomorian. I got boxed into the edge of the A side of the Queen Peregrine map. The Clays were able to set up a perimiter though to keep the big hitters off my squishier figures. The Berserkers ended up killing the fomorian, who rolled three successful morale saves, before it could do a terrible amount of damage. The Champions were very effective against my berserkers and clay golems, though this guy was rolling very very well. He only missed three morale saves all game, and only when it didn't really matter any more. Score was fairly close. I killed his Fomorian, Duegar Champ, helmed Horror, and two kobolds. I lost a Clay, 2 Frenzied, and the Crow Shaman.

Final match:
CG 500
Frenzied Breserker x4
Epic Rikka
Ryld Argith
Eberk
Centaur Hero

This was a bad matchup for me. Way too much damage output for me to handle, or so I thought. In retrospect I wasn't that much worse than mine, and with superior ranged capabilities I might have been able to hold out if I hadn't taken a risk early on. We squared off against one another with no one really wanting to engage first. I took a risk and double moved my ghaele to be within 6 of his Centaur who was out of command due to smoke. I lost the next initiative and he moved the centaur to smack me for 20 then moved Rikka to base the ghaele as well. The Centaur passed its morale check so i just left the ghaele there. Two of my Golems, my two frenzied, and the centaur took care of two of his berserkers. I won initiative the next round and moraled the out of command Rikka and stayed put. In retrspect I probably should have flown away and too kthe Aoo, but i couldnt go anywhere that wsan't within 8 of his enemy berserker. So I left her there. I then used one golem to pound out a third berserker. He shifted his berserker over and killed my ghaele next. After that it was slow deterioration on my part. Rikka rallied, but I beat his forces down pretty well, despite losing. Perhaps if I had styed behind the lines with the Ghaele it wouldn't have been so bad.

I enjoyed playing this band, though I found myself not using the archery of the Ghaele as much as I thought I would. The Clays and berserkers performed admirably, and the Centaur is a good ranged attacker. I noticed I forgot about the Ghaele's commander effect on several occasions as well. Still it was fun, and with some tweaknig I think the idea can work.

Looking to buy some figures? Chances are I may have them!! Check here!!
