| Played a 500 point tournament at Lindquist Education Gaming yesterday, and it went pretty well. We had 10 people show up, including a nice selection of maxminis folk. (It was nice to meet some of you!) It would be nice if we could consistently get that many to show up.
We played three rounds of swiss, and two rounds of finals. I was the eventual winner with: Cleric of Dol Arrah, Couatl, Large Silver Dragon, Epic Rikka, 2 Aspects of Kord, Lantern Bearer, and Mialee.
There were 4 Lawful Good bands, 3 Chaotic Good bands, 2 Lawful Evil bands, and 1 Chaotic Evil band.
The final rankings were: 1st: CoDA, Couatl, LSD, Epic Rikka, 2 AoK, Lantern Bearer, Mialee 2nd: CoDA, Couatl, 2 LSD, Marut, 2 Justice Archon, Aasimar Favored Soul 3rd: Elminster, 2 Archmage, 3 FB, Wild Elf Raider, something else? 4th: LE medley; Orog Warlord, Displacer Beast, Epic Artemis, Chraal, Thaskor, Skeletal Equiciph, other stuff. (Never played him.) 5th: Snurre, 2 Formorian, Beholder, 4 Kobold Miners 6th: Ryld, Eye of Gruumsh, Zombie White Dragon, Huge Red Dragon, Balor, Cursed Spirit, Dragon Cultist, Taer 7th: Elminster, Archmage, Aramil, Voice of Battle, Aspect of Kord, Epic Rikka, other stuff 8th: Ghaele Eladrin, Epic Kord, Champion of Ellisterre, Frenzied Berserker, other stuff. (Didn't play him.) 9th: Epic Iron Golem, 2 Justicators, 2 Xorn, Couatl, Purple Dragon Knight, Man-at-arms. 10th: Huge Gold Dragon, Large Silver Dragon, Sword of Heironeous, Paladin of Torm, Hill Dwarf Warrior, Man-at-arms
I am not exactly sure about the 8th-10th place rankings.
It was a fun tournament though, despite some disputes over slow play, and it was really fun to try out 500 point play. I think WotC has done a great job in making it an interesting format despite the built-in problems limiting its potential, and am definitely looking forward to the qualifiers. | | I am not gone.

| 9th: Epic Iron Golem, 2 Justicators, 2 Xorn, Couatl, others tuff. (Didn't play him.)
That would be me and it was the first time I ever played in a DDM tournament. The missing pieces are the Purple dragon night and a man at arms for the 3 pts left over.
In general it was a lot of fun. It was really great to put faces with some of the people on this forum. I look forward to doing it again.

| Sigh I ended up in 6th with the only CE. I deserve it though for being nice to my opponent in round 3. That band needs tweaking now that ive played it. Theres 3 possible changes, 1 minor and 2 major. I did enjoy epic though, which means ill be borrowing alot more pieces from here on out ;)

| | Hey Jesse - how about a report of the matches please? I'd love to here the details. Congratulations on winning. LG just might be the king of Epic for now. At least LG is better in 500 than it is in 200. | | Member of Team Amish 3rd Place in 2007 Constructed World Championship My combined DDM Skirmish record of all games ever played in all formats. 486 - 188 - 4 | |

| All of these games ended up being on the Hellspike Prison map.
Match 1 vs. budleiser. Ryld, Eye of Gruumsh, Zombie White Dragon, Huge Red Dragon, Balor, Cursed Spirit, Dragon Cultist, Taer
This was the match that I was the most worried about, and least eager to face. So of course I face it in round 1. My opponent and I are both using the same map (the Hellspike Prison) so map initiative is inconsequential. My opponent wins first placement initiative and places his units in the location closest to the sacred circle (I do not have my maps handy and thus lack the proper side name.) I start with Rikka off the board and one of the Aspects of Kord on the far side. He also wins first round initiative (this ends up being a major trend throughout my first two matches) and makes me go first. I begin deploying my forces in a spread out, conservative fashion in order to minimize the potential threat of the breath weapon. I begin with plans to send out Rikka on the second round to eliminate his dragon cultist, but he dashes those plans by sending his huge red dragon out to base my farthest aspect of kord. He also begins to bunch the rest of his miniatures together. I take advantage of this mistake by placing my large silver dragon in a position where I can get most of my warband in paralysis cone position.
I place Rikka over in position near most of his warband on the rough terrain victory area. I am not quite sure what I want to do with her yet, but I figure that’s a reasonable position to strike whatever figures are needed. He begins the second round by (after winning initiative) attacking my aspect of kord with a taer (miss) then the huge red dragon. The aspect of kord fails his first morale save but makes his second, thus avoiding enslavement by the balor. However he is close enough to the exit to run off the board. I move up my large silver dragon and paralyze most of his warband, save for the eye of gruumsh. I follow this up with moving up my aspect of kord and hitting him for 60 damage. He makes his morale save. The following activations involve him trying to get the balor out of his paralysis (he fails) and deciding he needs to send his eye of gruumsh over to keep my epic rikka busy otherwise she will be saying hello to his balor. He sends him over to attack. (I don’t remember whether he hit or missed, but it ended up being inconsequential, as she ended the match with all of her hit points.) I respond by double attacking him and routing him off the board. I also use a snake swiftness on kord to finish off Ryld. Die Ryld Die! The rest of the round isn’t especially interesting. He attacks my Aspect of Kord with some of the maws he summoned last turn and attempts to further release his guys from paralysis. For the most part he fails. I eliminate one of his maws (it runs away) with a magic missile from the slowly moving to a scoring position mialee. I move the CoDA so that it is in position to see Epic Rikka next round.
The following rounds are a little bit less clear but I think this is how it happened. He once again wins initiative (Thanks in part to the death-powered tied of blood balor ability) and frees his balor. I don’t remember what he does for his other activation. I unleash my cold breath weapon, killing his cursed spirit and hurting the huge red dragon and the balor. He moves his Huge Red Dragon into a position where its basing my Couatl and my Aspect of Kord and attacks the Aspect of Kord. Once again the Aspect of Kord makes his first save but fails his second, running off the board. I decide I really need to a) get my Couatl out of there and b) kill the huge red dragon. I sent Epic Rikka after the Huge Red and move my Couatl out. The Huge Red Dragon misses thanks to the timely presence of the lantern bearer and shoots the cultist of the dragon with a sonic orb. The Cultist runs away. I finally win an initiative and do a double attack on the Huge Red with Rikka, hitting each time. The Huge Red fails its morale save and runs off the board. Which is a relief, as I was having trouble seeing Epic Rikka being able to take the Huge Red on its own. I ask him if he wants to concede, but he declines, and we finish up the match. The Balor falls pretty quickly, especially after I crit it with Epic Rikka.
Damage on Epic Rikka at the end of the match: 0 (Don’t remember if she took damage or not. If she did it was healed at some point, probably due to a high initiative roll.)
Match 2 vs. Amanda: Huge Gold Dragon, Large Silver Dragon, Sword of Heironeous, Paladin of Torm, Hill Dwarf Warrior, Man-at-arms
Amanda hasn’t Epic for a long time, and is only playing so that we have an even number of players. I was a bit lax in my play this game, but it ended up not being very close (she did eliminate both of my aspects of kord though. I love how they end up being virtual fodder. I am able to eliminate the huge gold dragon and the huge silver dragon through concentrating my attacks on them, even though I admit that the Huge Gold Dragon is pretty damn scary. Honestly, I don’t remember much about this match, due to my lax play. I wasn’t as focused as I should have been, and its thus not as memorable. :P We finish the game early enough that I can watch other games and
Damage on Epic Rikka at the end of the match: 0 (Didn’t take any.)
Match 3 vs. Mortusbard: Elminster, Archmage, Aramil, Voice of Battle, Aspect of Kord, Epic Rikka, other stuff
Erik is in an unfortunately bad mood because of how the previous match was handled. (I am sympathetic towards both him and the judge. Slow play sucks) and ends up playing a bit carelessly. I end up killing both his Elminster and his Archmage in the second round and he ends up conceding so we can go outside and talk. I am sure it will be a much rougher time the next time we meet.
Damage on Epic Rikka at the end of the match: 0 (Didn’t take any.)
Match 4 (semi-finals) vs. Josh: Elminster, 2 Archmage, 3 FB, Wild Elf Raider, Couatl
This is a pretty fearsome match-up, especially considering that the vast majority of my band is outsiders. I actually win initiative for a change and have him move out his guys first. He ends up being pretty cautious and leaves Elminster and the two Archmages in a position where I can move up and cone him. I do so in the second round, and am rewarded with both elminster and one of the archmages being paralyzed. Woo! Unfortunately they both escape from paralysis that same round, and my Large Silver Dragon is quickly killed by a combination of being double sworded by his archmage (though this ends up meaning nothing because of the LSD’s death) and being attacked and critted by some near by frenzied berserkers. Whoops. I kill one of his frenzied bersekers in retaliation, but its not quite the same. The game is still pretty close at this point, but some bad luck in the next round causes problems for Josh as he launches 5 banishments at my aspects of kord and I make every single one of my saves. That pretty much wins the game for me, as I am able to move my hitters forward and eliminate his casters and the remaining frenzied berserkers, though, I lose one of my aspects of kord in the process.
Damage on Epic Rikka at the end of the match: 30 (damn frenzied berserker).
March 5 (finals) vs. Kevin: CoDA, Couatl, 2 LSD, Marut, 2 Justice Archon, Aasimar Favored Soul
This looks like its going to be a tough match both because of the fact that Kevin has made it all the way to the finals, but also because of the fact that he has two Large Silver Dragon’s paralysis cones. Unfortunately, my paralysis cone ends up being a little bit more effective than his, as it allows me to take his Couatl, Aasimar Favored Soul, and 1 Justice Archon out of the fight. His only allows him to keep the Epic Aspect of Rikka out of the fight for one round and kill an Aspect of Kord (with the aid of a Justice Archon.) He is able to follow up with an elimination of my other aspect of kord the following round with his justice archon and some cold breaths, but not until after I have killed his Marut and put some damage on his Large Silver Dragons. I send Rikka after his Large Silver Dragons (performing a killing cleave on the paralyzed Couatl into one of his Large Silver Dragons) while my Large Silver Dragon hunts down his Cleric of Dol Arrah, and my Couatl + Cleric of Dol Arrah perform a sonic orb banishment combination to kill his remaining justice archon.
After this my Large Silver Dragon, Couatl, and Epic Rikka focus on killing his Large Silver Dragons. While my CoDA grabs tile points and (at one point) moves up to give Rikka some healing. He focus on Rikka as he realizes he needs to force her to rout in order to win. He doesn’t. In the end I end up killing both of his Dragons, and win the game.
Damage on Epic Rikka: 50 (Some of it healed by initiative checks and the Cleric of Dol Arrah.)
All in all, this was a very fun tournament and I am pretty happy with how Epic is shaping up. The turn out was reasonably high for a Central Florida tournament, and it seems we might have a pretty steady group of regulars. (To the point, where I think Ocala may end up being the big place for us to get together and play.) Oh and Kiddoc, if you are reading this, I take back the negative things I said about Rikka. Her Epic version more than makes up for my distaste for her regular version. She definitely pulled these games for me (with a little help from the rest of the band. [:P])
