| Well the event is now over and I can relax for a few moments... well at least until the next thread about the Gencon draft starts. [:D]
On to the brief reports. As this is now my second event for Maxminis, I'm beginning to understand more and more about what we need to do to make it a better success then the time before. I added in the concept of index cards for pairings and tracking, with Pat's suggestion we stream lined the prizes with a prior dice roll, and with several people helping it ran smoothly. I will be modifying the cards for Gencon as I would like to gather more information to report back. If anyone would like to write a report on how they did and who they played I would really like to read them.
Standings: 3-0 Steve Schubert (undefeated 2 events running) Joshua Dartez Brian Mackey
2-1 David Mindock James Mattaboni Declan Lynch Pat Ellis Nate Scheidler Jim Behnke Charles Schroder Scott Tillotson Stacy Mieure Pat Lynch Sean Banks
1-2 Ron Baugh Paul Stringer Chad Benner George Estill Jamie Boyle Mark Liberman Will Highsmith Aron Reif Corrine Rypka Mike Chvala Peter Lee Matt Barry
0-3 Justin Mattaboni Erik Lundblad Daniel Koch
2-0-Drop John Fanjoy
1-1-Drop Jesse Decker
0-2-Drop Chris Grooves
I want to thank everyone (and appologize for the shortened 3rd round, it was beyond my control)! I'm looking ofrward to seeing everyone at Gencon. Look for the Gencon thread to be posted soon.

| BIG thanks to Sean for running the Draft. I had loads of fun.
I drafted in a pod with Rav950 (Thanks for doing the webcast), kithmaker, and Chris Groves (so much for meeting people, we are both from NC).
I drafted Cleric of Dol araghrathasomething Gold Dwarf Soldier x2 Gith Monk Elf Swashbuckler Xendric Champ Dromite Wilder
First round was against Chris Groves (of course) He was running band stinky. (Hez, trog barb x2, grimlock barb, some other stuff). The dromite wild surged for 40 elec to most of his band and some of mine. Chris missed many conceal rolls and it eventually came down to a gold dwarf, monk and cleric vs hez. I think I dismissed him.
Second round was against someone running some wardrums stuff (melfling, Divine Crusader of Corellon, teifling captain, girillion, etc). His girillion routed after rending to bits my swashbuckler. I dismissed his tiefling and managed to rout the crusader with practically nothing left in my band.
third round was against someone running balor, helmed horror and stuff. I tried to run the dromite away from the balor to get off a good electricty blast, but the balor hit him and I failed morale twice so he switched sides (tratorous dromite!). I managed to dismiss the balor and we duked it out but he won because he collected tile points.
For my prizes I pulled some good german beer and a pack of aberrations (Yay! Ryld)
Thanks to everyone. Scott Tillotson tallcar24

Scott, it was great to have you there, I'll work on not pairing people who play together all the time, but it was the randomness of the shuffled cards. | I drafted some good stuff. The key round in the pod was when the Hezrou, Stone Giant and Cleric of Dol Arrah were all unwrapped. I knew I wasn't going to take the Stone Giant - it was really a question of the Hez or the CoDA. Since I already had two trog barbs, I decided on Ol' Stinky and Scott grabbed the CoDA.
Scott and I have known each other for YEARS, I was in a good mood thanks to the tasty diet soda and we played fast. We played for TPK and must have got in two dozen rounds.
In my second game I faced lynchpt's friend (and his son's godmother) who was playing in (basically) her first ever game. I'm not going to say I threw the game, but let's just say that I gave her lots of good advice and pointers and maybe played riskier than I should (taking AoOs to move around, etc.)
I was playing for fun so I decided I'd help Sean a bit and keep things moving. I had a 6 hour drive to make, so I got myself ready and helped get things wrapped up. It was a blast and I can't wait for the next one! | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *

Yes the tasty diet coke really helped me as well, add I think was a contibuting factor to beating Jesse Decker as I was not caring if I won or lost.
Thanks for all you help[ in gettting the prizes out and moving. I think I';ll just run the event at Gencon and not play as I had a blast having everyone participate. The only thing is I may have to jump in on the prizes at the top or I'll never get on of Peter Lee's Huge (and awesome) Earth Elementals or Runelord's repaints. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

| And where was the love for the Crucian repaints... even people who did not have one needed to have their arms twisted to get one.
Ian jokingly said that thatwas the next mini to get banned. He told me that to many peeople had them and with everyone having them it mihgt need to get banned. | Thanks Sean for organizing this event. I had a lot of fun and got some good prizes. It was especially nice sitting down and getting to play against Steve Schubert.
I would have beaten Schu had the third round not been so short. They called time after we had just ended the second round of our match! We hadn't even engaged in battle yet! Steve had shot and killed my Vargouille for 12 points with his Xen'drik Champion and at the start of the third round routed my Timber Wolf with a sonic line from his Warforged Wizard. Then he charges in with his Wemic and routs my Trog Barbarian. The wolf and Barb would rout off since I needed my Orog for battle. So I was left with one round to kill something over 50 points. My Orog and Duergar Champion were too slow to have engaged already in two rounds so I had only one shot at killing the now fearless Wemic. I threw everything at it. My Lolth's sting hit and the Wemic failed the sleep poison save. I quickly did some math and realized that even with the auto 30 damage I could do with the Duergar I still needed a critical hit from Orog or a failed save against the Burning Hands spell from my Arcane Guard in order to win. He passed the save on the spell so in the closing seconds with his Wemic still at 20 hp I attacked with Orog on the Blood Rock area. I needed a 19 or 20 to win. I rolled a 13 and lost on time. His poisoned Wemic would have died next round and I most likely would have won. But I had fun and made a lot of new friends. | | Member of Team Amish 3rd Place in 2007 Constructed World Championship My combined DDM Skirmish record of all games ever played in all formats. 486 - 188 - 4

| Chad,
Sorry for the short round, and it would have been great to see him take a lose... Just kidding Shoe.
We were under the impression that we had more time and then we found out we had less. I have to give a ton of thanks to Ian who stayed and let us play langer then we should have and then locked up behind us. He is fantastic and gave us the chance to play a little longer then we should have, and hand out prizes too. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

| Kudos to Sean for another terrific event! Although I enjoyed the event a ton, I was almost glad to miss it when BShugg announced that someone had dropped out of the WarDrum finals and I had moved up to the #8 slot. But my hopes were dashed [:(] and instead had a great time with the Maxminis folks [:D].
I would second the suggestion that somehow we avoid matchups with people that we see all the time as 2 of my 3 events were against Daniel Koch and Aron Reif who I skirmish against regularly.
I was part of the only pod of 6 draft group. I had a Giants of Legend courtesy of AesophDarkfable who wanted someone to use it since he was busy in the WarDrums finals. I was able to grab a Rakshassa out of that to lead my evil warband.
Fry kicked my butt in the first game but I was able to sqeak out victories against Daniel and Aron (mostly due to the short time as he didn't get a chance to kill me with his Sword Archon and Clay Golem!).
I took a Balor and a custom Nightmare as my prizes as Jim Mattaboni took the Hill Giant Barb repaint I wanted--darn you![)]

What I may do is add a slot for what State you are from that way if two people from the same state come up I can shuffle one back in. I forgot to mention, only one wish per message board, and you used it up for the whole group... [)]
This is a fantastic group to work with. That is why I'll be running the event and not playing in it at Gencon. Everyone comes out for a fun game, throws in high end prizes, and has fun. I want to make sure that the fun continues and this event stays on top, so I'll be running and not playing this time... maybe I'll draft for the fun of it as I love draft events. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

Ian, welcome to the boards!
I remembered that you had mentioned that as we were leaving late that night, but I did not want to jump the gun to much and start talking about it.
So are you going to play in the event??? It would be great to have you there, especially since I have such a great record verse Jesse, I need to try my luck verse you or Shoe. | I want to add my thanks to Sean for organizing and running the event. Thanks to all the Maxminis people for their donations to the prize pool and for being an excellent community and making this fun.
I also want to thank Kiddoc and his wife for signing some Rikka cards so I could enter them into the prize pool.
I was fortunate enough to be in a draft pod with Shoe and to be sitting to his left so I would have a shot at one of the War Drums rares. Woo hoo!! However for the second time this weekend (the first being in the Vintage draft for top 8) I wound up prefering one of the uncommons (Mephling Pyromancer) to the rare I could have chosen (Dragonne).
My warband ended up being:
Tiefling Blademaster Divine Champion of Correlon Mephling Pyromancer Fiendish Girallon Deathlock Orc Savage
My first match was against Declan Lynch. All I remember about the match is that I rolled nine natural 1's, yet still managed to win the match because he wasn't rolling much better.
My second match was against Tallcar24. He pretty much just outplayed me to hand me a loss.
My third match was against Matt (don't know his last name). He was playing a Sword Archon with other things. I thought I was in trouble, however when he moved up the Archon to base my Mephling he left himself in range of the Girallon who proceeded to hit on its first attack then crit on the rending attack. The Divine Champ was then able to finish the Archon off at which point Matt conceded. I actually felt kind of bad as I don't like to see a game decided in the first fifteen minutes based off a lucky roll.
So I went 2-1 and ended up choosing the War of the Spider Queen figures and the Scorpion Clan Drow promo from Origins as my prizes.
Thanks again to all for a good time.
Jim
