| I hate to miss a draft but 3 weekends in a row of gaming is a little too much for my wife.

| | Well, I hope I can make it. I've never actually played in a DDM booster draft before. I'd love to give it a try. | | "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'." -John 8:12 | |

| | For those still considering playing, we have enough players who have commited to playing that the event will happen so come on out and get your first chance at drafting War Drums and maybe pick up a few minis you don't have yet. My fingers are crossed to pull a hextor [:D] (may not win with him but I would be closer to completing my war drums collection) | | Champion of Cyclops

| We had nine play. Congrats to Konor (legend here on maxminis) for drafting the one and only Hill Giant Barbarian and using it to win.
Not a lot of great rares or uncommons showing themselves in the 18 boosters.
Maybe others who played can add their thoughts. I had the choice between Warbound Impaler and Dragon Totem Hero. I later managed to draft a Night Hag and a Zakya which became the core of my team. My team was Evil Axis and consisted of Night Hag, Zakya, Skeletal Legionnaire, Inspired Lt., Derro, Derro, Tiefling Blademaster and Trog Thug. I Went for activations since I had pulled no big hitters. It was in my first match that I realized I had low HP overall.
My first Match was against Dragomir who won map init and had us playing on the teleporter chamber. I don't recall his full team but know I was lucky in that his Inspired Lt. Failed a morale and ran on the map along with his sacred watcher. His Gulgar also failed morale at an inopportune time.
My second match was against Greg who had a Dragon Totem and Wemic. I won map init but choose to use his mithral Mines. I had chosen the Dragon Shrine in case I came across some figures with elemental damage but his team didn't have it and decided I liked the tight lines in the mines for dealing with his team. I used a derro and my trog to keep him from scoring victory points. I had starting area A. In the long term I ran my trog all the way down to the corner rubble to collect victory points. Greg took a couple of shots at it with his steelheart archer but didn't hit it often enough to have it morale check. The battle happened on the side closest to B's exit. The wemic had circled around to get behind my team while the pair of wood elf rangers were coming at me first. I don't recall the turn by turn action but I do recall my night hag being able to nerf his dragon totem and that his combat medic kept healing his dragon totem much to my annoyance. The elimination of his wemic started a quick spiral combined with my trog collecting victory points.
As this match was coming to a close I was informed that I was the slow player since my matches were always the last still going. I'd like to believe it was my eight figures but it was probably just I don't think as fast as the rest of you guys. You will all be old one day too!
There were only two undefeated at this time since Kiddoc had lost in his match against Dragomir. I got the pleasure (note sarcasm) of facing my son, Konor in the championship match. He was running a Hill Giant Barbarian, Warforged Barbarian, Tiefling Blademaster and Melphling Pyromancer. He won map init and we were on the mushroom where my streak of luck ran out and I was crushed. His HGB crshed my night hag and Zakya on consectutive turns. I did manage to rout his warforged Barb (who made morale as he hung on the edge of the map) and his mephling who did get off the board (woo-hoo I wasn't completely shut out!) but I kept missing conceals on his teifling blademaster and it made morale when my Inspired Lt. did finally manage to get the damage on it. But it was my Zakya running that had me concede. And for those who thought I played slow, I guess it comes down to I win slow but lose fast.
Overall a fun day and I did manage to get three rares I needed after a bit of trading. Still 7 short but getting closer. | | Champion of Cyclops

| | Congrats to Konor! We had a nine player tournament here in Charlotte Wednesday night, but due to time contraints could only run three rounds. I pulled dual Aspects of Moradin, but got a first round bye. :( Oh well. How many rounds did you guys play? | | D&D Minis wednesdays at 6pm in Charlotte, NC at Underground Games. | I was running a warforged barbarian, tiefling, mephling, and Hill giant barbarian.(this team ultimatly led me to victory)
My 1st match was against a king-obould,blood ghost, large duergar,2 flameskulls ,and some other pieces.my mephling made my warforged fly at speed 8. Then just Fireballed the fodder. Hillgiant just crushed king obould and the blood ghost.
2nd match was against Aspect of moradin, warforged bodyguard, flameskull, 2shieldwalls,axe soldier, hobgoblin archer. We played on the drow Outpost.First round fireball from the mephling, which I now know wasn't possible. Neither of us had a line of sight tool so it was on how well we could see it. the fireball killed all of his fodder the sheildwalls both missed, axe soldiermissed and ran, warforged missed, Moradin made it though.once the warforged was killed moradin just couln't take the beating delt to him.
3rd match against Forkedmoon wasn't even close the hill giant just started pounding and they just could'nt take the damage.

| I got completely destroyed in this tournament. It wasn't pretty. There were a couple of things I could have done that might have changed the outcome slightly, but I don't think I screwed anything up horribly. One thing I didn't like at all was the double-drop method of drafting (in which each player opens both his boosters at once, and selects one from the pile of 16 minis). I was drafting 5th in a 5 man pod, and I felt that was a huge disadvantage. I felt like I was drafting filler without having any idea what the core of my warband would be until quite late in the draft. With a standard draft, I'd have opened my boosters halfway through, and everybody would have opened one booster by the time the second half of the draft started, so everyone would have some idea what to build around.
I ended up playing an Ogre Warhulk, Blood Ghost Berserker, two Quaggoths, a Lion of Talsid (and yes, its as awful as everyone says), and a Cougar. Or something like that. I'm missing one figure, but of course I wrote down what my opponents played and have neglected to write down my own warband. Must have been a Howling Orc, since that's what makes the points work.
First match was against my friend Eric. He was running Aspect of Moradin, Hobgoblin Archer, Shieldwall Soldier x2, Warforged Bodyguard, Flameskull, Axe Soldier, Karnathi Zombie. He managed to get his bodyguard and aspect separated, and I got his aspect down to 10 hp, but then my dice went ice cold and I couldn't get that last 10 hp off before he realized his peril and ran another 55 hp over next to Moradin. Moradin smashed both my hitters in one round, killing the berserker and sending the ogre running right off the board. From there it was an exercise in incompetence, as his Moradin took something like 4 rounds to kill my Lion of Talsid and hunting cougar, while I managed not to hit him at all in that time.
Second round was a bye, which put me in a pretty foul mood. I've hit byes in half my tournaments so far, and I always feel like I'm wasting my time. Somebody's got to get them, I guess, if there is an odd number of players. Second round bye is the worst, since it means I've got no opportunity to redeem my first round defeat. I went to Friday's and had a salad and watched the second half of the Duke/Wake Forest basketball game. Duke won, so I was in a better mood when I got back to the store.
Third round I played Brian, who was running Khumat, Blood Ghost Berserker, Girallon, Tiefling Blademaster, Howling Orc, Trog Thug, Quaggoth x2. This one was played pretty tight, and Brian played very well. I managed to blow up his orc and girallon before they could do much, but he sent my ogre running, and I couldn't rally it. I then missed two chances to clear his thug off a key teleporter that would have let me bring my cougar into play, lost initiative and got my blood ghost killed, and had my quaggoth killed by a crit aoo when I tried to finish off his bloodghost, in what was admittedly a desperation move. The quaggoth would have had 5 fearless hp left after a standard aoo hit from the khumat, and would have killed the berserker on anything but a 1, which would have in turn left my other quaggoth alive for another turn. I had at least some small chance of pulling the game out if I had been able to keep those quaggoths around for another turn, but with the crit I lost them both and conceded that my lion of talsid (with 30 hp and no more flamestrike) and hunting cougar weren't going to beat his blood ghost, uninjured khumat, and blademaster.
All in all a very frustrating tournament, though playing minis is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon even when it's not going your way. I felt like I was so close in both losses, and couldn't come up with either the moves or the dice to eke out a win. I stuck around and played a few league games that evening with forkedmoon, legend, and Eric, and felt a lot less frustration about the bye after I got a few more games in.

| | It seems all the "good" boosters were left in the last case opened for the draft. I know one had a sand giant and hill giant barbarian, another had an aspect of hextor with a HGB. | | Champion of Cyclops

Brother... DON'T even start about "GOOD" boosters. When you're already solidly into CE and have the last 2 boosters to go (mine), and what do I open?!?!

Funny?
No, funny is the fact that I didn't even get a single one of them. I had to take a hitter to round out my Evil band. And by the time the pick got back to me, both ballistae were gone. Now that's funny! :( *sobs* | | POST DISCLAIMER: Above post may contain humor. Now with micro scrubbing bubbles. Do not operate heavy machinery. Take with food. Use only as directed.
