| We had 8 players this weekend. Top 4 were myself, tallcar, my friend Josh, and legend. Also present were Chris and Greg, plus maxminis members forkedmoon and Terin. I don't know what the total standings were.
I ran Urthok, Efreeti, Chraal, Duergar Champ x2, Dark Moon Monk, Goblin Skirmisher, Timberwolf. Map was Broken Demongate.
tallcar ran Urthok, Duergar Champ x2, Blood Ghost Berserker x2, Snig, Kobold Miner x2, Goblin Skirmisher x2, Goblin Warrior. I think his map was Dragon Shrine.
Josh ran Young Master, Gith Monk x4, Arcanix Guard, Warforged Scout, Man at Arms. His map was King's Road.
Legend ran Rakshasa, Helmed Horror x3, Dark Moon Monk, Kobold Miner x3. I don't recall his map choice, maybe Dungeon of Blood.
forkedmoon ran a Wartroll and Duergar Champ band with a Dark Naga commander. I don't recall his map choice either.
Greg had an Aspect of Moradin band, I think on Mithral Mines.
Chris had CE beaters (see report below), on the Teleporter Temple.
Terin had a HGB band. I don't know his map selection.
My first match was against Chris, who brough Mounted Drow Patrol x2, Eye of Gruumsh, Orc Champion, Red Samurai, Orc Brute x2, Orc Savage. I won map init and chose the (corrected) broken demongate. I set up on the yellow side. An early Chraal cone took out his fodder and damaged some of his band. The Eye brought down the Chraal, but the explosion routed him. This game was pretty one-sided, unfortunately. Chris wasn't having a lot of luck with the dice, and the difference in commander rating and loss of fodder was too much to overcome.
Second match was against tallcar. I won map init again, and set-up init, but asked him to set up first. He chose the red side of the map. He ran one bloodghost past my warband to menace Urthok, but I brought the efreeti back and hit the bloodghost, then won initiative the next round to eliminate the threat. My chraal evened up the activations, catching a bunch of goblins and kobolds in the cone, and routing Snig (who failed his only attack roll, the breath weapon save, and both morale checks - Snig was not a lucky goblin). The remaining bloodghost and a duergar chewed up my chraal who exploded, doing more damage to my own band than his (a duergar and my goblin were too close), but the fight really tipped my way when both of his duergar champions failed their morale.
Final match was against Josh, and again I won map init and set up on the lighter side. He tied me down in the choke point with one monk and the arcanix guard while running his master and other three gith around the far side of the map to force the fight into his victory area in the central hallway. I won initiative and caught all 4 in the chraal's breath, but he made all 4 saves. I lost one duergar due to misplacement, but the efreeti, chraal and other duergar were able to bring down the rest of the gith monks. With just the young master remaining facing Urthok, the efreeti, and chraal, Josh conceded. I was two rounds from winning on tile points, and he could not have conceivably killed enough of my band to win before my dark moon monk would collect the needed points.

| It was kind of a weird tournament, especially with pretty much all the matches ending in 30-45 minutes. I had fun even though my warband (and my 20-sider) pretty much sucked.
I was running the Eye, Orc Champ, Red Sam, 2x MDP, 2x Orc Brute, 1x Orc Savage warband. My thought was to be fast and aggressive, with 5 hitters that could swarm and pick off important pieces. It looked better on paper than it did in action. I learned a few things that I'll share:
First of all, I knew going in that I would lose pretty much all of my important initiative checks, with the Eye as my only commander. It just proved to be more of a disadvantage than I thought it would. I wanted to have 8 activations, and I thought that the using the Brutes and Savage as more beefy fodder would have some impact on the game (especially with the Eye's CFx), but I was wrong. With the current state of the game, 15 hp is no better than 5 (especially with a total morale save of 2), so I should have included either the Wardrummer of the Tiefling Captain with Orc Warriors as fodder.
Plus, I wanted to try the MDP's as fast-moving assassins, but that didn't work too well either. Their attack bonus of only +10/+5 was just too low to take out the pieces they most needed to kill. And their 50 hp is just too low to be reliable.
Finally, I just ran away too much, which I knew would happen with my pittiful commander level, so I totally deserved that.
So anyway, I should have probably run a CE band with HGB and either the Tiefling or Wardrummer to keep the figs on the board. | | "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. | tallcar24's report (Scott) I decided to try something hitty and simple so I went with. Urthok, Blood Ghost Berzerker x2, Duergar Champion x2, Snig, Goblin Skirmisher minions x2, Goblin Warrior minion, Kobold Miner x2 Very simple. No spells. No ranged attacks. No elemental damage. And the 4 hitters already do magic damage. I figured even if the 2 miners died early, I would still be up on activations thanks to Snig and the sniglets so I did not have to worry if they ended in a bad spot. I choose Dragonshrine Temple since I did not have any elemental damage or protection from such.
First round was against Konor (Legend). He was running Rakshasa, Helmed Horror x3, Dark Moon Monk, Kobold Miner x3. He wins map init and side init so we played on the Dungeon of Blood and I had to set up first. I took side A, with the single long setup area. My miners landed one on the steps and one on the side. His miners landed 2 on the steps and one in the crystals. He went first and killed my miner on the steps with one of his miners and flew a helmed horror over to kill the other one on the side. My goblins used ranged attacks to kill one of the kobolds, but the others stayed. The rest of my band spread out towards the middle while he moved most of his band towards the broken crystal. 2nd round, I'm still up on activations and kill off the last miner on the steps and move the goblins around. 2 helmed horrors surround a duegar and hit him some, the other horror moves back toward the middle. My duergar beat on a helmed horror, one blood ghost helps out the duergar and the other goes toward the lone horror and gets tile points. 3rd round, the rakshasa slides the blood ghost near the pit into it, but he saves. A horror hits the duergar and he routs (this will be a trend for the day even at +15). The duergar finishes off one of the horrors and moves over to the monk. The blood ghosts both take an aoo to attack the rakshasa. One misses but the second one hits and routs him, the first one kills him on the aoo. The cowardly champ continues to run off the board. The goblins show their worth and get some 10 damage hits in due to snig and urthok. That helps me take out another horror. He finishes off the blood ghosts, but by then, I still some good rolls from the goblins and a duergar that take down the last horror.
Second round was against Nick (Wish). He was running Urthok, Duergar Champion x2, Efreeti, Chraal, Dark Moon Monk, Timber Wolf, Goblin Skirmisher. He wins map init and side init again. So we play on Broken Demongate. I take the broken side and my 2 miners land in the same victory area on my side. I split the rest of my guys between the 2 start areas. His chraal and monk take the small start area. Round 1 we both move toward the middle. His wolf goes low and I put a duergar to block. 2nd round He wins init and I tried something risky. I send a blood ghost through the middle to threaten urthok. He moved the efreeti to attack the blood ghost and the monk tried to stun him but failed. The chraal breathed on the goblins killing most and snig failed the save and ran. A duergar and blood ghost beat on the chraal. The wolf attacked a goblin and the other duergar routed the wolf who died to aoos. His duergars move around but cant get into the fray yet. 3rd round, he goes first and the efreeti attacks twice to kill the blood ghost. My duergar and blood ghost beat on the chraal who passes morale but dies hurting my duergar and blood ghost, but killing his goblin and hurting one of his duergar too. His duergars move up and kill the blood ghost. My other duergar moves up for a duergar on duergar faceoff. Snig runs off the board. 4th round he wins init and routs a duergar. I beat on his and he passes morale. I forget the exact round by round flow, but both of my duergar rout and rally. I kill one of his duergar and monk. But the efreeti and duergar finish of everyone. I noticed later that out of the first 6 inits he won 5, only loosing the first round. That and both of my duergar failing morale at +15 did not help, but I think going after urthok was not the best idea. If I could have won init I could have at least at a good chance to force morale on urthok who was close enough to the exit to have run off. But it was very risky.
Third round was against Shawn (Terrin). Shawn was running, Hill Giant Barbarian, Orc Champion, Red Samurai, Orc Wardrummer, Drow Sargeant, Orc Warrior x2. I actually won map init and side init so I took the fire side. One miner lands in the shared victory area and the other lands up near the statue. I win init and move one miner to the correct victory area of the statue and the other runs away from certain death at the shared victory area. He moves everyone to the shared victory area. I move the goblins straight down but leave the goblin warrior on the fire shrine. The rest of my band moves toward the center. Second round the goblins move toward the center and make some poor attacks at short range. He moves the samurai and the orc champ to kill off the goblins. The giant moves forward to attack a duergar and hits and I pass my first morale with a duergar!! The other duergar and the 2 blood ghosts move forward and beat on the giant. 3rd round, he goes first and kills a blood ghost with the giant. The orc moves up to attack a duergar but misses because of cover. The other blood ghost and duergar put a hurting on the giant after cleaving through an orc warrior, but he passes morale thanks to the wardrummer. The other duergar hits the orc champ. The samurai moves up in a good breathing position for next round. A kobold moves over to harass the wardrummer. 4th round, I win init and finish off the giant with the blood ghost and a duergar. His samurai breathes on both duergar and the blood ghost. The orc champ moves around the cover to attack the duergar, but misses on a 1. The duergar attacks back on the orc champ who passes morale. 5th round the orc champ and the blood ghost die off. One duergar moves up to the drow seargant and the other takes on the red samurai. I think next round the samurai fails morale and Shawn conceeds.
I take second on tie breakers.
