| I am not one for writing reports, but per request through emails, I will give it a shot. The turn out in Idaho was relatively small compared to last year. 14 contestants I believe opposed to 30+ last year. The bands at Idaho were very diverse, but still some of the most competitive “standard” war bands were present.
I ran:
Aspect of Kord x 2 Inspiring Martial Crow Shaman Timber Wolf Elf Warrior 2 x Xeph Map: Dragon shrine
I created this war band in response to all the Marut + Couatl bands dominating the meta game. As many of you vassal players may have seen I practiced with it for over a month, and I extend thanks to Robddaman who was kind enough to take me through a mini gauntlet against some competitive bands.
Sorry in advance to everyone for not knowing names or remembering everything in detail. Feel free to correct any of my detail errors this is all from memory.
********************************************************************
1-0 Opponent: 2 Duegar Champs, 2 Helmed Horrors, Darkmoon Monk, Cleric of Nerul
I won map, chose dragon shrine, my opponent won side, but chose the cold side. Later I asked him why he said he wanted to camp on the shared VP area and take pop shots at my band. On the second round I won initiative moved a Kord down within melee reach and attacked a DC. Critical, pass conceal, DC dead! I then GMA’d my Kord Back to rejoin my war band out of the reach of his other beaters. To sum things up we got in a big beater war and one of my Kords failed conceal 3 times, making up for that early crit. The game came down to me having a 50 point Kord and some fodder, while my opponent had a fresh HH and a DC at 5 health. He ended the round with his DC basing Kord and forcing morale. This could be game but Kord makes moral. Next turn initiative, I win Kord attacks the DC hits passes conceal then retreats to shared victory area where I win the game.
2-0 Opponent: 2 Justicators, Slayer of Domiel, CODA, 2 timber wolves, M@A
Both had same map I set up on fire side and the game commenced. To make a long story short I tried to rush the slayer and hit for 40 failed conceal and GMA’d back. This was bad dice game for me, one Kord failed morale and routed off the map. I eventually won all fodder in tact, crow shaman Kord at half-life, he having a Justicator left and a Slayer left. I finally made the final conceal check on the slayer to kill it for the win on points. At this point I made conceal 50% of the time.
3-0 Opponent: 2 Gauth, 2 Duegar Champions, Dark Naga, 3 X Azer Fighter
I won map, he won side, and he chose fire. This battle I was most concerned about because the Gauths against my Kords. However I was able to maneuver Kords across the middle of the map and behind walls to avoid the Gauths. I was also able to get a Timber wolf onto the fire side of the map. I eventually GMA’d my Kords to base his Gauths and started whacking. Both his Gauths made there save so I had to finish his Gauths with 2 more swings. Succeeded and my Kords didn’t fail a Para save, however 1 Kord failed a stun. One of my Kords had a Gauth and Dark Naga based at the same time. So after finishing the Gauths Kord laid into the Naga who failed the save and routed off the map. He came back at me with his Duegar champs killing or routing a Kord can’t remember. The other Kord whacked a DC at the beginning of the next round for a morale check and it fails. DC routes off the board and I win on points.
4-0 Finally, a battle I was hoping for except I was concerned about the BG variant of the Couatl+Marut bands
Opponent: Marut, Couatl, WBG, Cleric of Yondalla, WF scout, Aramil, Std. Bearer, Timber wolf (I think)
Don’t remember too much on this battle. It was all about beat-downs. My Kord’s, (at full health) had his Marut (at 45 health) flanked and the Body guard had 25 health left at this point. | | "Like a thief in the Night"

| | Did a Drizz't band really make it to the top 4? I think that is great. Thanks for the write-up, congratulations, and good luck at GenCon! | | Champion of the Entire Monster Manual 1! (Click link to see current progress!) Uncommon Painting Competition 2 Winner | |

Yes! As strange as it may seem, but he piloted the Drizzt band very well. No one was familiar with a band like that so I think he had a surprise advantage too.
And thank you. | | "Like a thief in the Night"

| | Congratulations, SneakyJoeKDB, on your victory. I didn't think about two Kords and a crow shaman and insp marshall. Sounds like a good combo. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse | |

| | Congratulations as well. Interesting that a Drizzt Combo went on top 4! I think the generel combination of Drizzt, Rikka and Rask is much better than Drizzt and Ulmo. | | | |

| Gauth was using Field of Ruin. He said that he has been out of skirmish for a while and that was one of the only maps he could find.
I was running Drizzt and Co. on Fane of Lolth. Fairly open map so I could used the speed 8 to outflank and base other players backfield. Also Victory areas are far away and easy to protect, so first round victory points are hard for either side to get.
I have to agree that Drizzt, Rask, Rikka are much stronger than Ulmo. The Ulmo build just doesn't leave you enough points for fodder, and he is less than stellar against Maruts, and to a lesser extent Eyes of Gruumsh. | | Champion of the Gnome Hook Hammer

| | Alright, I have to brag for Sneaky Joe. His first organized tournament was the Wardrums pre-release at which he took second place. Since then he's played at maybe two or three other tournaments and now went undefeated after 7 round taking 1st at a qualifier. In case you haven't checked Keith, I just looked up your DCI rating and you are now second place in Utah at 1764, only 6 points behind first and he hardly ever plays and therefore never really takes any point drops. Now you have to start coming out to more tournaments so I can have a chance at maybe beating you and getting some DCI points. [:D] By the way, you should contact DCI and let them know that you're not listed in your local area. Anyway, a big CONGRATULATIONS to you! | | | |

Heh! I am flattered, marriage makes consitant playing of this game difficult. I will do my best to make it to more local tournies. As you know I am regretfully unable to make it to the pre-release. I do hope to attend the Utah Open. And Devin, thanks for your support it helps keep me addicted to the game. | | "Like a thief in the Night"
