| We're having a sealed 500 point WotDQ tournament at Endgame in Oakland (CA) on Sunday, July 16. Registration begins at 10 AM, boosters open at 11 AM. I should be complaining about my draw by 11:00:01 AM.
This will likely be the first epic tournament where the new Dragondown Grotto epic map will be legal.

A bump in the road parking wise, peeps. The parking lot (10th and Jefferson?) that some of us have used in the past...is fenced off.
Alternate parking may be difficult to find.

| Yes. I'll get more info on the lot next Monday (if I can). For those that are in the immediate Bay Area, BART is a great way to go. 12th St Station is 2 blocks away, and the walk between the station and the store is right by the Oakland COnvention Center, so it is safe.
If you want to play, but you don't think you'll need the figures, you might want to check with some of your friends and see if they'd 'sponsor' you to play. You could work out a deal where they pay for a portion of your entrance fee and then get certain figures from what you pull. It can be a good way for people that lvoe limited to get a chance to play more limited without breaking their bank for figures they don't really want.
On a side note, I am currently investigating methods by which we might be able to allow the use of the huge fiendish spider as a 'supplemental' figure for the tournament. This will likely involve people using spiders that they own or that they borrow. I should be able to provide a few spiders as loaners to people that do not already have one. | |

Dreamblade Demo on day of Endgame Tournament
I've set up some Dreamblade demos at Endgame with Michael Derry on the day of the Endgame WotDQ sealed event: Sunday, July 16. We'll run a demo before the tournament at 10 AM (during tourney registration), and then run a few more demos throughout the day as time allows.
Parking
Aaron at Endgame replied to my email about parking...

Huge Fiendish Spider
I'm exploring the possibility of allowing people to bring and use a Huge Fiendish Spider as part of their sealed warband, which would provide the same options as the prerelease. However, this is currently not allowe dby DCI rules. If I can swing something to get permission to do this, I'll let you all know. | |

| | For the record, I am in the process of getting a guarantee from Endgame that the boosters for this event will be taken from fresh cases. Further, we will be hiding the box art (and case location) of these boosters to make sure that there is no cherry-picking during this event. | |

| | After discussing the situation with Endgame, they have decided to stick with their standard policy and *not* allow us to use fresh cases for the planned limited tournament. It is their belief that this would provide inequities to the community. I can't say that I agree with the decision, but I can see the logic behind their argument and I don't think they will be persuaded to change their stance. Accordingly, there is a high chance that this weekend's tourney will be changed to a 500 point constructed event. More informatin to follow. | |

| We had 5 people show up. We decided to do informal play instead of a tourney. Accordingly, there was no winner (although my stirge band was undefeated... in its one game).
We did have fun going over Dreamblade rules and running a sample game. It looks like a pretty strong game... | |

| It was a hoot. I finally make it to EG on a Sunday and there isn't a tournament. [:D] Actually I pushed for casual play over the tournament. It was a hoot.
I ran Drizzt, E-Guen, E-Rikka, AM, IM + fodder against Feathers. He ran AoT, 2x LGD, Zakaya Rakshasa + fodder.Elliott let me 'cheat' twice and I still lost. [:)]
Dragondown Grotto has some very interesting characteristics. Steep Slope interacts with Huges and Larges in ways that are, at first, a bit startling. E-guen actually routed AoT with her (his?) first attack on the circle of death. Steep slope kept the routing AoT close. It was very interesting. Routing after Epic Kitten's first attack was one of the best things that could have happened to the AoT, which is counter-intuitive.
At first, I was thinking, this is the worst map ever... then I got home and thought about the map for a while. DGG does have some graphic-design issues (why have a dark center, dark woods, poor contrast and some vaguely defined squares) Those things aside it is a very very interesting map.
Dreamblade was cool. The game presents a lot of options for warband construction. At first I was leary of a 96-figure set, but I think I'm going to enjoy the set analysis and combo hunting aspects of the game. However, I'm going to buy Derry a gag-ball for Christmas. [}:)] | |

My girlfriend Glenna and I, between us, know literally 13 Mikes, so we've given each of them nicknames. For example, there's Annoying Mike (whom I get along with well, but most people find hyper-obnoxious), Big Mike (6'8" tall), Stoner Mike (goes through a half-ounce of weed a week), Gay Mike (guess) and Gayer Mike (...), and so on.
Last week, Derry met Glenna for the first time. I, naturally, introduced him as "Gabby Mike," which has been our nickname for him since five or six of us stayed two hours in the parking lot of a game, after closing time, listening to his (to be fair, mostly solicited) opinions on various DDM subjects.
I disagree about "too much," since I enjoy talking (and arguing) with Derry, but there's no doubt that the man can just flat out talk. | |
