Match 1 (Assault):

I played against Zuran_Alda on Broken Demongate from the 'evil' side. He didn't start any of his units in the forward start area which allowed me to get tile points starting on the second round. It was a little difficult manuvering in that bottleneck with 3 large bases, but with a series of good rolls, the soldiers fell pretty quickly. I double moved the wardrummer first round so that I could use countersong but it made no difference since the soldiers all made their morale saves anyway. At the end of the match, I managed to have the Cleric based by both dragons while almost completely ignoring the Sand Giant. I took out the cleric leaving him with only the Giant, but I lost Hezrou and one dragon in the process. By this point, however, I already had 60 tile points with my hyena and Orc warrior sitting on two different victory areas - there was no way he could prevent me from winning on points.

Match 2 (Assault with Caves of Pain):

I lose map initiative so I face Banana_Samurai's LRD on Mithril Mines. I ran one Fang Dragon in rather aggressively to try and take out the DCL but end up getting beaten to a pulp for my effort - one dragon goes down. I manage to take out most of the footpads fairly quickly despite them making morale saves. He moved the dragon to a point where he could breathe on Hezrou, the remaining dragon and my wardrummer (a mistake in placement on my part). But, as it turns out, I was able to take out a couple blockers with the dragon and run Hezrou to base the cleric and rout him with a successful attack. After the LRD joined melee, he also failed morale (needing a 7 since both drummers were dead) after a full attack by the fang dragon. The DCL failed one rally check then passed the next one. At that point, he was again based by Hezrou. I won initiative on the last round and killed the DCL - without a commander left, the LRD had no chance to rally and ran off the board.

Match 3 (Assault with Bounty):

I lose map and side initiative for the 3rd time in a row and face Grubbis' Chraal band on Drow Outpost. He set up on the Outpost side and managed to prevent me from getting tile points first round by occupying the entire centre victory area with two Chraals. On the second round, he started coning everything in sight, wounding my three big guys and taking out the orc warrior. Unfortunately, he left an openning where I could double move a dragon to base his commander. The next round, I won initiative and unloaded on the blackguard - dropping him to 45 hp (he made both the blood drain and stun save). With my Wardrummer now playing the intimidating drumbeat, he tried to take out the dragon rather than risk the AOO and possible morale save. Two Chraals ran back and with the attacks from both the blackguard and DMM (who critted!) the dragon was down to 35 hp. I knew I had to win initiative to have a chance. I rolled a 4, he rolled a 1 - whew. I attacked with the dragon and critted on the first attack. He failed the blood drain save and took 50 damage... all the Chraals went with him and the game was over.

Overall, it was a good night with scary amounts of auto-damage flying around. I'm sure glad I chose a band with a boat-load of HP!

I'm sorry I missed what happened in that match-up. Three Chraals vs LRD and 2 Belchers would have been fun to watch.  Of course, I was busy facing my own LRD at the time.

Epic this week should be good.  I've decided to put the archmages away.  Maybe someone else will bring them instead...  not naming any names, of course.
