| Anyone have anything to report yet? How did things go at your local event?
I didn't get to play today, so I'm dying for some info.

| We had 21 people out in Winnipeg, including two people who flew in from Regina. Now that's dedication. Final Four were:
Daniel Phillipe (Solar, dwarf scouty thing, fodder) 4-1 in swiss, beat Richard in semis, beat Mike J in finals. Mike J (Solar, bluespawn lizardy thing x2, fodder) 4-1 in swiss, beat Norm in semis, lost to Daniel in finals. Richard (Pit fiend, mezzoloth, orc wizard, greenspawn sneak, acherai goblin, viking dude) 5-0 in swiss, lost to Daniel in semis, beat Norm in consolation final Norm (storm, bluespawn, valenar charger, demonic gnoll, other stuff) 4-1 in swiss, lost to Mike J in semis, lost to Richard in consolation game
There was some discrepancy about what prizes should be, so store threw in another booster, and first got 5, second got 4, and third and fourth got 2 each.
I pulled an Ice Devil and Pit Fiend in my two tournament boosters, and a gith on red dragon and dwarf on dire boar in my two prize packs. Not too shabby, although I didn't get my name on the trophy again.

| I'm not sure, what were our expectations? I don't think either the pitfiend or the solar will see much play in constructed. Neither seems to really have the staying power of a titan. They both have trouble getting above 1:1 hp:cost ratios, and the solar's ac in particular is god awful for a mini that costs 105 pts. The solar is a piece that can win you the game with the slaying arrow, but if they make the save, you're gonna be in trouble.
I could see some use with the pitfiend and a couple of zakyas, but mostly I'm still annoyed that in 7 games, casting dolorous blow on my pit fiend each game, I didn't manage one single critical hit with him. Grrr.

| well "our" was my wife & I, you didn't know...jeez we figured those pieces with any level of support would dominate most opponents. sorry for the confusion. not one crit in seven matches with the pit fiend...not nice. mark | | mark - Champion of the Goblin Worg Riders | anteblue_at_yahoo_dot_com IHawk's Have/Want List | IHawk's Trade List | Completed Trades - 214 | Pending Trades - 0

| I thought the same thing about the Solar -- that's a lot of points for an AC 19 titan with no special defenses and just one Slaying Arrow. My other rare was the LoBster, but with no other constructs in my pull, not using him was a no-brainer.
In Ypsilanti, ended up 3-2 with:
Mezzoloth, Elf Warmage, Med. Copper Dragon, Harmonium Guard, Shadowdancer, Gnoll Barbarian and Kobold Monk.
Naturally, one loss was to a Solar...only it was paired with the Fire Giant Forgepriest. On the Teleport Temple. It was a slaughter.
The other was to another Forgepriest, only with a Gnome Trickster and Orc Wizard to give him 18-20 crits with that hot anvil of his. On the Drowpost. Once they were all invisible, I did everything I could think of -- cloudkilled my own Monk to catch some of his guys...they all saved...had the Dragon breathe his line through the Acid-Immune Mezzoloth to catch some of his guys again...they saved again...
...and I missed 5 of 6 Conceal checks, even as the Giant tore my army apart while not even leaving the bridge.
The wins were pretty bland, and 3-2 won me bupkis.
But it was fun. | | Champion of Iconics & the Apparatus of Kwalish (Constructs with Drivers? Brilliant!) Dungeons of Dread Called Shot: Yeah, right

| SF Bay Area tourney was held at Game Kastle in Santa Clara. The Champion (John Wang - John05) ran a warband with a Horned Devil, Elf Dragonkith, Elf Warmage, Greenspawn Sneak and Harmonium Guard. I lost to him in the final round with my Pit Fiend, Dragonmark Heir of Deneith, Hammerer, Skeletal Reaper, Greenspawn Sneak and Mercykiller.
The big memories from the day:
* Losing my Pit Fiend to a slide from a gnome trickster that pushed the pit fiend into a pit... (the irony of losing a pit fiend in a pit was not lost on me...) - However, I managed to win the match after losing over half my warband on one die roll.
* Getting a critical hit on my Pit Fiend from the Horned Devil in the last round of the game during the opening salvo. It just went from bad to worse after that moment. Â
* Taking stock of my pulls from my boostyers and realizing that I had only 1 hitter - a 105 pit fiend. I had decent tech to support him, but I thought I was more likely to have a bad day than a good.
I won two boosters from the tournament. The rares were a Howler and a Githyanki Knight.
My perspective on the day: Gnome Tricketer was generally less usefual than people expected. the Elf Warmage was more useful than people expected. Horned Devil is a solid piece in the right warband.  | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt. | I went 3-1 and took second at the Holmes PA even t (14 players) Solar, Orc Wizard - cdolorous on the solar every game but only 3 crits all day and one was a 20), Shadow dancer, green sneak x 2, valhalla hero, gnome fighter
lost in last match to Chad Dragonlord - he had maug, storm silver, free league, doom guard, thundertusk, lots of damage, lots of bonuses form his two low commanders. They basee the solar and ripped him a new one.
I hit on all 4 tries with slaying arrow, but only the first round kolyarut failed his save (otherws were Lillend, Centaur hulk and Maug)
I agree Solar is very expensive, and AC 19 must be buffed. I should have used a maug as backup but went for 7 activations | | Champs 2007 Top 16, Team Amish Class of 2007 Seeking Northern NJ DDM'ers - "There can be only one" (I hope not) Champion of the Doppleganger

Well, Chad is a very good player, so, no shame in losing to him, that's for sure.

| | At my local prerelease, I got second with a warband consisting of:
Vlaakith (Paralysis was nice)
Hellcat (Conceal 11 helped a lot!)
Copper Dragon (Slowed a Marilith for one game)
Ethereal Marauder (Filler)
Kobold Monk (Victory points)
Gnome Trickster (Invisibility and Snake Swiftness for Vlaakith)
The first place army consisted of a Githyanki Dragon Knight, Copper Dragon, Bralani, Kobold Monk, and I can't really rememeber the others. It was a really fun tourny!

| Pre-release at Top Games in Hamilton Ontario.  8 players in cluding the Hev, James the True.Â
I went 2-1 and finished 4th overall with the following:
Lord of Blades (Bane Weapon spell was very useful) Centaur Warhulk Gnome Trickster Free League Ranger (+2 att bonus helped a lot) Greenspawn Sneak Greenspawn Sneak
199 pts 6 activations
I also drew and did not use: Green Slaad Elf Warmage (oh how I wanted to fit her in) Harmonium Guard x2 Goblin Archon Gnoll Barbarian Half Orc Spy Hero of Valhalla x2 Blood of Vol Cultist Phoera Harmonium Guard
Overall an ok draw, I guess.Â
There were 2 Solar warbands (I beleive neither placed in top 4); 1 Ice Devil/Maug/Storm warband; 1 Githyanki Dragon Rider/Orc Wizard/Red Hand Sorcerer warband; 1 Lillend + ??? warband; 1 Elf Dragonkith/Mezoloth warband; and 1 other (can't quite remember what it was).Â
Top 4: 1) Elf Dragonkith / Mezzoloth 2) Ice Devil / Storm 3) Githyanki Dragon Rider / Orc Wizard / Red Hand Sorcerer 4) LoB / Centaur Warhulk (me)
My one loss was in my first match versus Storm Silverhand, Ice Devil, Maug, and Soulknife Infiltrator (4 activation warband). I missed his Maug on my first swing needing a 3 or better, so that kinda ruined using the SS and killing the Maug (I had Bane Weapon Constructs on Centaur, so 40 damage per hit). Centaur also routed but not off board. I rallied him the next round, but the two rounds of lost attacks left my LoB to take the beating. And that was game.Â
In my second match I beat a Firegiant Forgepriest/Thundertusk Cavalry warband basically by killing all his support troops and staying away from him while picking up VP's (the Forgepriest is a beast).  Â
And in my third match I beat a Solar/Gnome Trickster/Water Elemental warband. I stayed invisible until the Solar comitted to Melee combat by basing my LoB (and him never getting to use his Arrow of Slaying) and then I surrounded him with my Centaur & invisible Greenspawn. In 2 rounds he was dead from Bane Weapon on the Centaur, LoB attacks, & arrows from the Free League Ranger.Â
The Centaur Warhulk IMO is meh - very decent damage but routs too easy. The Lord of Blades was pretty good, and his Bane Weapon spell was very useful, but his one problems was his slow speed. On the other hand, everyone essentially brought the battle to him so he was always in the thick of things. Finally, the Gnome Trickster was ok. The Invisibility (and Conceal 11 because of it) saved me a number of times. But after his spells were gone, he was not very useful.Â
Cheers.

| I went 4-1 in Ypsi, took second place, lost to the only 5-0 band, and as mentioned before, was only non canadian to finish in the top 4. I had a whooping 4 activations : Solar, Fire Giant Forgepriest, Fiendish Snake x 2 it was a lot of fun, had some close matches, some not so close, and a big factor in my loss was that it was the only time one of my titans failed a morale save.Â
I believe that there was only one Marililth pulled, and since he went 5-0 id say shes pretty strong. He was also a very good player, used his figures in great combinations, and he some great rolls.
Teleport Temple worked out great for me. I was able to use the Solars slaying arrow onto which ever figure was on top of a teleporter closest to my opponents commander, then once that figure was removed it would soon be replaced by a Fire Giant who would unleash hell right in the face of a weak commander.Â
I was really impressed by the : Shadowdancer, Air Genshai or whatever its called, Free League Ranger, Dwarf Sniper, and the Fire Giant
Not so impressed by the : Trickster, Thundertusk Cavalry, Mezzoloth, and Solar | | Champion of Manshoon of the Zhentarim addict of orcs, ogres, and anything that smashes

| I was the one who went 5-0 in Ypsi. I played on my Dragonshrine all 5 games. Warband was: Marilith Maug Shadowdancer Free League Ranger Gnome Trickster Greenspawn Sneak I was able to move in on most warbands Invisibly and then activate the Marilith and Maug at the end of one round then Initiative Surge to win the next round. The potential of 200 damage was nasty. Still, had some lucky rolls (and some unlucky rolls for my opponents) to pull out some games. | | | |

| just to put it in here - 6-0 at the Connecticut pre-release! mY rares were Arcadian Hippogriff and Sucubus - my band was Red Hand War Sorcerer - Awesome piece and one of the best commander abilities in the game IMO Doombringer - good piece for a seeded slot Maug - Solid hitter with a good price tag Mezzoloth - 95 HP made alot of people worry about him Arcadian Hippo - Mediocre at best but I used him as a commander assassin Hero of Valhalla - good results from him.. but not sure how viable for constructed Greenspawn Sneak - most undercosted figure in the game. Incredible value and a must include in its faction. Better than any 2 3 point fodders in the game combined.
My concern starting out was the lack of a titan.. the closest I had was the Maug at 75 fearless hit points. He did his job quite well thru the course of the day but honestly my "strategy" ended up being my opponents failing MCs and not having a commander to rally. It was an incredible string of luck for me - I lost count in the finals but the end of swiss (4-0) saw my opponents at missing 10 of 13 MCs. So, I will take my sweep (FSM knows I needed the ranking boost) and thank my opponents for having dice that mimic mine. I rolled like crud nearly the whole day. A crit here and there, a few made MCs and saves - but I rolled a ton of 4 and less - I missed like 6 consecutive hits in one match. I carry 7 dice with me and they were all "cold" for the day. Frustrating to say the least. But I made excellent use of the Arcadian's "take 10" thru the course of the day. "Oh - your AC is 19? I use the arcadian's ability and.. add the smite! take 30magic!" | | Minis... Serious Business Completed Trades (18 ) | Pending Trades (0) Ebay seller to Avoid –Fantasy_Quest_Dist
