| Awesome paint job! I'm disappointed with the sculpt though - it's exactly the same as the Forest Dragon except wingless and multiheaded. I didn't think Reaper recycled them like that.
Again, sweet job. | | | |

| | Excellent Cryohydra! I do agree, though, that the sculpt is just plain bad. Big Heads, Little Necks. What does Reaper think this is? A bad anime RPG? [)] | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| I also agree that it is an excellent paint job on a poorly designed sculpt. The different blues on the scales look very good. The shading was done well, and the teeth/eyes look good.
Torso (in sculpt) is almost nonexistent. It makes me wonder if there is a stomach in there. So many heads, nowhere for the food to go... | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

| | Thank you all; this was indeed a poorly design miniature but I was in dire need of a Hydra. As Dariustad said, it is a bad anime sculpt [:p] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis | |

| | Love the color you went with. I have the same mini, I went with more of a brown/purple and I remember I had a hell of time putting it together. But like you said, I really needed a Hydra. | | Thank you, Yack. It has a ton of different blues but the main effect come from dry brushing it with a folkart metallic saphire blue. The tongues are purple and blue but you cannot notice the purple much in the pics. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! | | This is actually my favorite of the three. The colors make him look like he's made of black ice. Is the blue metallic? | | | |

Thanks! The underbelly is FolkArt 402 Light Blue, the top scales are Delta Adriatic Blue and the mid scales (the mid-row in the tail) is a mixture of both. The 'exposed flesh' is a watered down FolkArt 513 Cayman Blue. The dry-brushing of the scales was done with FolkArt 656 Metallic Blue Sapphire and the shadowing was done with watered down black india ink. The lighter parts' dry-brushing was FolkArt 701 Icy White.
Hope that answers your question [:p] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

| I wouldn't be surprised to see a Hydra in the War of the Dragon Queen set coming up this year.
You did a fantastic job on a less than fantastic miniature glumag - congrats!
What is with the chilly theme herein Crafter's Corner anyways? King Frosty Snurre, Frost Giants, Dire Polar Bears and now a Cryohydra - not that I'm complaining but is everyone running an arctic setting game all of a sudden? | Thanks Pale Rider!
I was indeed running a cold terrain encounter; first outside encounter with ice trolls, 40 or so orcs, displacer beasts, my white weretiger and a fomorian. Then it moved into a temples old ruins inside a mountain with a crap-load of frost giants, the cryohydra, winter wolves, ogre servants and a half frost giant-half white dragon (used a mageknight sorceror mini).
I needed the chill theme indeed. Wished I had time to do the polar dire bear because it called for one but I settled and used a regular dire bear instead...had no time to repaint one after painting all these three in 2 weeks (about 3 hrs a night for the most nights).
It is a crappy sculpt (very anime/manga) but that was the only affordable hydra I could get in a limited time.
I am not too sure about us getting a hydra on wotdq because they already announced tiamat and well, a hydra would be redundant for that set since they said they could do it as a Large so Huge would be it, and whata re the changes they will give us 2 multi-headed dragons in the same set? Just a thought. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

The frosty Kord was my original suggestion to Runelord151 way back last year. But when he turned out too small to be a Frost Giant, I requested for a King Snurre repaint instead.
As for why all the chilly themes in repaints? I think it's probably because DMs (like myself) like to make cold setting adventures (sometimes just as a change of pace in a non-cold campaign).
Cold setting adventures seem to be much easier to place in a campaign (high in the mountains, winter season, etc.) than any of the other types (hot - limited to volcano-type areas, etc.).
I guess you can say I got influenced too much by the Icewind Dale games that now I always like to infuse Auril-based adventures in any of my campaigns. I have to really, or else my 8 Frost Giants and 4 Wampas go to waste. [:D]

| I also find it that cold weather encounters and adventures tend to restrict the players a lot...I like them to realize that weather IS a factor in the game and looking for shelter and protection is also something that should be taken into account, besides your regular "let's-not-get-eaten-alive" bit.
Ok, we are moving into thr RPG topic now [:p] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

| Great paint job!
I have the same sculpt, and I think it's very nice. The only problem is that IMO this sculpt is more of a Large creature than a Huge. Don't you think so? | | trade reference thread (30 completed trades, 1 pending)Vindicated Champion of the Noble Salamander

Then what do you use it for in play? Young Hydra or something like that? - cause Hydras are usually huge, aren't they? I have never used mine yet, so I am curious about what you do with it. | | trade reference thread (30 completed trades, 1 pending)Vindicated Champion of the Noble Salamander

I bought it, painted it and used it for only one encounter, in one room, and it lasted about 10 minutes. It called fro a cryohydra with 7 heads and the stats were as per the monster manual.
I use minis to represent things, not to BE the exact thing. Beats a penny. The magic happens in your head [)] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis
