Given the limited choices it’d be a B for me, with caveats. Since I’m going to GenCOn (yah!) and am a gamer I’ll probably check it out. I like to play games.

Don’t imagine I’ll get way into it as I like to play wargames, and it doesn’t look like a wargame. It’s just not a skirmish game, any more than chess is a skirmish game. It’ll be about position, combos and powers, not fire, movement and morale. Another thing that I think will resemble Magic more than DDM is the fact that you may not even get your entire warband into play in any given game. A ‘1’ on either init die means no spawn phase. That, along with the vagaries of spawn points that are usable and the potential low number of turns means that, like Magic, you may never use your entire deck in a game. Deck building has never been a high priority in my hobby, and it looks like deck building will be a huge part of DB. Metagamers rejoice – there will be tons of fun there for you. Then there’s the expense. If it does take off there I’d bet there will be rotation. Keeping up with the power pieces will take cash.

None of that is said to slag off the game. It may be great. At the end of the day the play’s the thing. Who knows, maybe this will be the gamer’s game, the perfect blend of planning and play, always exciting, always rewarding. WotC knows their way around tournament games, so maybe they’ll have a hit. Personally I wish them luck with that – the longer WotC is around the better IMO.

But only because I will be at GenCon when it debuts. Otherwise, I would vote C.

I dont think it would hurt too much for most ppl to download the rules and at least check them out. Beyond that, everyone is different. But I'll at least download the rules for now.

I am B for two reasons. I know I will be enticed by the money/prize support if it turns out to be any sort of fun. The second reason is the fact that according to Donais, about 2/3 of the minis could be used for D&D RPG. Those two reasons make it worthy of a try. Did I mention the prize support?

B/C - it really depends on what the rest of the MN skirmish scene does. If enough people switch, I may switch. I play to have fun with fun people. Or, I may go back to spending money on Golf and skiing instead.

It looks interesting, and I love games. I doubt I'll buy in right off the bat, but if it's fun and there are people playing it in my area I'll pick it up.

I have a soft spot for small fantasy based miniatures, usually regardless of gameplay(*looks over at collection of HeroScape*). This game, however, seems to have solid rules and gameplay, and pretty cool minis. With big prize support, it will likely draw me to local tournements(if there are any) Regardless, I seem to be the first A, and i also seem to be playing into WOTC's little plan, but i cant help it.

I may try it if others in my area are interested, but most probably I'll just scour it for figs that would be fun to use in DDM. IF I see some really cool figs or become really impressed with the game design, I could switch to B.

If DDM fails, then I'll probably get into it. But, I don't see DDM failing. And, I'd rather play a game that has hundreds or thousands of competitors instead of one that has hundreds of thousands of competitors. Just not a big fan of stress.

We've had comments raging over the socal ddm email all day.

I think the general concensus is

B.

However, this is not really a skirmish game, - truly - this will be meta-chess with dice. It is designed to be a tournament game, the minis version of MtG.

It will never satiate me the same way DDM does, (I think, anyway), but it offers an interesting alternative and a different mindset.

I love the meta anyway, so this looks particularly interesting. Fenris and Smyrin are both onboard, and Dagni's recent forays into MtG suggest that he might be as well, although he has been surprisingly mum on the subject. Grasshof is as well, so there you have it. The DDM constructed champ and Sealed Champs like it, as do some of the top 8ers.

But I don't think any of us are leaving DDM for "greener pastures."

While I hesitate to use the term "blasphemy", I do agree that there shall be no other game before (during or after) DDM--unless it's the RPG. A new game, based on nothing that I know, just does not appeal to me.

I wonder why this game is made. Another fantasy line... I've collected some SWM and bought AAM too, am excited about star wars space battle game and and AAM naval too, but I don't understand another fantasy game. If it would have troops (Oo, think about phalanx of 100 tiny figures - the painting proccess should be more automated though) instead of single minis, I might be interested but not now.

As long as it doesn't replace anything important then ;)

~

Now that I have had a a few hours to think & ponder about it, I have thrown aside Chicken-Licken, Goosey-Posey, Cock-Lock, Turkey-Lurkey, and Drake-Lake.

I find myself agreeing with those who were pointing out that the RPG need/feed will probably support DDM as a product for a long while. So will causal play skirmish.
After all it is pretty unlikely that much of that 20g USD will filter out to the boondocks away from North America anyway, so in all likelihood, or at least my opinion, DreamBlade (DB) won't have much of an effect internationally. On sales and other important stuff that keeps a product going.

So though the quality, and even some of the innovation might drop, due to a higher focus on the newbie game it's unlikely that quality will drop further than Wardrums _bitter_ grin> which the cynical conspiracy freaks will of course say is testing the market tolerance for acceptable crudness. (no offence to any cynical conspiracy freaks of course. Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they ain't out to get ya :)

The loss of those who really have their heart in da Meta if they switch will hurt. I know I would miss their input and it would probably lessen the online community a lot ): and I would be buying less. But I would still be buying some and so will lots of others.

But we also have this entire year more or less with a heck of a lot of emphasis on D&D and/plus DDM. Dragon Queen, Blood War. Some of what is in the slide show in PatEllis15' thread (http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17069) which is the iconic's, bonus boosters, & more shows that DDM will have reasonable respect for a while. Not to mention Rob & Shoe's support.

I`m going to be very interested how far apart the Colossal Red Dragon is from it's master. I`m going to be interested in the quality of this next DDM set. If it remains the same, I expect it will remain the same and focus will shift to Dreamblade.

So I read the rules;
OK I skimmed the rules it looks kinda cool.

I'm a B

I might be an A

There are alot of IFs involved

If it's fun, and not just for me, also the casual non addicts I tend to hang out with.

If it's Cost Effective.
If the boosters are $20.00 a pop =I'm out.
What's the rarity breakdown? VR, R, UC, C would seem most likely (like SWM).
What if some Ultra Rare level is added.
Can I field a decent squad without cheaping out on my girlfriend's birthday, valentine's day our anniversary etc.?
Basically- ALL OF THESE MINIS- had better be useful.
If they have no value as RPG pieces they really are a waste of resources if they Blow in this game.

I get the need for crap cards in MtG and DDM skirmish. But DDM has a secondary use for those unwanted, poorly costed, hordes of commons. I trade em' to other RPG guys. Hopefully this lessens the investment a bit. Most CCG are cheap, sure a whole set will cost a mint, but a booster pack is like $5.00 IIRC. A twenty dollar booster of useless plastic will scoot me away faster than Dubya doing Q&A for a Liberal Focus Group. Which by my stopwatch is immediate.

I'm just too afraid that a lot of the Commons/Uncommons will be like in D&DM, and not usable. In that sense, what do I do with them when I get a lot of them? It doesnt exactly make me want to buy boosters, more like go to the singles market and get the ones I wanted.

Good thought, how many of the rookies and experienced (the commons and uncommons of Heroclix) actually see play? At least they have value to comic book collectors. If I buy a $10-15 booster just to get the rare because it's the only playable piece in the pack, I wouldn't be buying the booster, I'd buy the single. Either way,

I Vote E

There is no local game store in my town and my friends likely won't be buying this game, so I won't be playing. Might buy some cool looking single figs for RPG.

I just came to think of why we maybe should have better reaction for it. If it draws in most of the hardcore magic -players instead of DDM doing it, the spirit of the games will stay better! Maybe Magic has lived it's lifetime and is dying - I haven't followed situation, is Magic going downwards? I lost my own interest ages ago.

Well, right now I am a B tending to A.
I play DDM, have all the minis except for 8 Harbinger rares (which is quite an accomplishment in Brazil, where this kinda stuff is EXPENSIVE), now also play SW - not addicted, but have over 200 minis right now. Liked the look of this new game, and liked the rules at a first glance. Problem is: I'm almost the only person to play DDM and SW in my town, everybody else plays MtG, Heroclix or some other stuff, which is pretty much a bummer. DDM is particularly interesting cause I also play RPG, but this new game might offer a new possibility for me to find people to play. It will depend on availability and te cost x benefit ratio, but I'd say I tend to play it. Hopefully.

It's MtG all over again! That was my first game, and while I love DDM, there's a few itches it doesn't scratch. I'm not saying I'm going to go hardcore into this game and spend a ton of scratch, but I'll definitely buy it, play it, like it. We'll see.

I'm willing to give almost any game a try, which is why Gen Con is so dangerous for me. I'll try tons of games and end up buying some that I rarely get to play.

I'm hoping that this game can keep the price point low as there are no other licensing fees to deal with. I'm really looking forward to giving it a try as it is completely different from all the other CMGs right now.

The gameplay is great. Each time I play I learn another nuance. Warband building is a completely different animal from DDM. The game, in fact, is completely different, and utilizes a separate set of neurons in my cranium.

The team working on the game knows what they're doing. They bring many years of experience of game design, from our minis games, D&D and M:tG (check out the credits in the online rulebook). I've even pitched in on a dev team for a future DBM set, but my meager contribution pales in comparison to the great work the core design and dev teams have done.

In general, I'm looking forward to our internal events and leagues, though DDM remains my top priority and interest.

Although I worry about the impact of this taking DDM completely out of play, I don't mind the product at all. If we lose some people to this game, because they like it's play vs DDM great! Maybe they will dump their DDM figures on the market driving the price down and I can get more than one umber Hulk or Cleric of Lolth without taking a second mortage on the home. DDM is a fun game and can stane on its own or just to be used as RPG pieces. If I go to a CON, darn right I will play in a sealed 20K event rather than a DDM event. You know Why? Because I can then use my winnings to buy more DDM mini's!!!

I love fantasy but I also love unpredictability. I get both with this game. Each game should be different due to the varying spawn costs and the board movement. Reading through the glossary of the special abilities in the rulebook is what really sold me. They will bring so much strategy to the game I can't wait to play. August is a long time from now.

From my quick read of the rules, and looking at some of the threads here it looks like a fun game. Also, I have a friend at work who may go in on the collecting aspect with me, so that will save huge on the costs. I will keep collecting DDM as long as they are there though, because the real interest for me is the D&D game and setting. I've played for the last 21 years, and I'm not about to stop just because a new game comes out! This looks like it will be fun, and I will give it a try.
